Blizzard’s Battle.net hacked, account information compromised

Battle.net have been compromised and certain account information have been illegally accessed. However, no financial information (like credit card details, real names, and billing addresses) are said to have been breached.

Blizzard has posted an important security update on their official site. All regions outside of China were affected and the breach occurred during the weekend.

For North American servers, information compromised are, “the answer to the personal security question, and information relating to Mobile and Dial-In Authenticators were also accessed.” said Blizzard president Mike Morhaine.

“Based on what we currently know, this information alone is NOT enough for anyone to gain access to Battle.net accounts.” Morhaine continued. The “cryptographically scrambled versions of Battle.net passwords” from North American servers were also stolen but passwords would have to be deciphered individually, Blizzard still recommends to change your passwords as a precaution.
