Square Enix is making a hardware independent action RPG

Famitsu recently interviewed representatives from Square Enix as well as Level-5 and Imageepoch (as translated by Andriasang)

Ryutaro Ichimura of Square Enix, who has worked on a number of Dragon Quest titles said that he is currently developing a hardware independent action RPG. Basically meaning “you can play and access it anywhere. You can play it on the go on whatever platform you want,” then continue the same game at home on your TV screen.

Level-5 CEO Akihiro Hino was told Famitsu that he wanted to make a big open-world game in the same class as Skyrim and Dragon’s Dogma which he feels can be done in the near future.

Meanwhile, Imageepoch CEO Ryoei Mikage said that they are currently developing their first action RPG for HD platforms, presumably for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. It could also be released on the Wii U. Most of their games have either been turn based or tactical affairs.
