Firstly this is completely off the rumor mill. A new supposedly slimmer PS3 has been sneakily photographed and was recently posted on Anatel, the Brazilian Agency of Telecommunications. While at first we thought it was another bogus mock-up, Tecnoblog has came up with even more pictures including an official documentation for the FCC.
As can be seen from the image, the new slimmer PS3 seems to feature a ridged-like texture on its top. Also the new revised console seems to be using a top loading Blu-Ray disc drive via a sliding panel (from left-to-right) as well. Further images seems to also suggest that the new slimmer PS3 has an even smaller footprint than the current slim PS3 being sold on store shelves.
Finally in what seems like an official documentation, Sony lists 3 different PSU model numbers; CECH-4011A, CECH-4011B and CECH-4011C. Tecnoblog claims that they correspond to each system having different storage spaces, of which are 16GB, 250GB and 500GB respectively.
Perhaps this would bring up another rumor in which the 16GB would cost as much as Microsoft’s Xbox 360 4GB SKU — $199.
Of course, as usual Sony has kept mum over the leaked images. For now, it’s no secret everyone would want to see a price drop for the PS3 and it’s also no secret we’d be bawling at the ugliness of the new slimmer PS3s as well — if it turns out to be true.
We’re still calling this a rumor by the way.
