So it was a bit of a disappointment when we couldn’t fly planes in GTA IV —especially coming from San Andreas. However the text article in Rockstar’s Newswire seems to suggest that planes will indeed be flyable in the hotly anticipated release of the 5th GTA title.
A direct quote from Rockstar’s Newswire are as follows..
“The city was simply too small for effective and enjoyable flying, it was the first time we made a high definition open world, and it was a massive amount of work to make something on that scale – we simply could not make an environment big enough for planes to work properly.”
“Fear not, they are returning in what is our biggest open world game to date.”
It’s true that Liberty City in GTA IV was much smaller in scale than San Andreas. After all, planes would be pretty boring anyways if we could fly through the city in half a minute with no place to maneuver around.
With GTA V featuring mountains and forests, it seems like a no brainer to allow players to fly to some of the more obscure locations with a dodo plane. It’s all but confirmed at this point, we’ll report back as soon as we learn more.
GTA V is slated to release on the PC, PS3 and the Xbox 360.
