No SDK for Borderlands 2 but Gearbox encourages modding

At the recently concluded Rezzed, Gearbox’s Randy Pitchford said at a development session that there won’t be an SDK released for Borderlands 2 but still encourages the modding community to tinker with the game once it’s released.

There was consideration in the beginning to release modding tools, but Pitchford said that time was better spent on working on a sequel.

“There was a moment after Borderlands shipped where we thought about releasing an official SDK,” said Pitchford, “but we found that most of what we would be able to do, was already accomplished by the gaming community.”

“The best thing we could do for the community was get to work on Borderlands 2,” he continued. “Imagine if we’d spend a year working on an SDK for BL2.”

Borderlands 2 will be releasing in September for the PC, PS3 and Xbox 360.
