Need for Speed live-action movie confirmed – EA

Incoming blockbuster or flopbuster?

DreamWorks have just come to an agreement with EA to make a movie based off EA’s highly popular action-racing series.

Brothers George (She’s Out of My League) and John Gatins (script writer for Real Steel) have prepared an original story for the upcoming flick, with the screenplay “based on the Need for Speed series, but is not made entirely an individual game.” EA will be behind the production scene with John Gatins and Mark Sourian, while Scott Waugh who is famous for his work on Act of Valor is hired to direct.

According to the press release: “The film adaptation will be a fast-paced, high-octane film rooted in the tradition of the great car culture films of the 70s while being extremely faithful to the spirit of the video game franchise. In Need for Speed, the cars are hot, the racing is intense and the story keeps players at the edge of their seat.”

The film is expected to be in production early next year, with the release date set in 2014.
