There has been a major discussion about the effect of games on people. Like drugs, it has a profound effect that makes it hard for people to stop playing them. However, a researcher has responded in an article published in The Sun about gaming and its addictive influence. The article pointed out that the effects prompted actions such as calls from concerned people, suicides, as well as negative brain activity.
However, Dr. Mark Griffiths, the Director of the International gaming Research Unit at Nottingham University, said that it was probably something that was blown out of proportion. He was the one who supplied a two-page questionnaire in the said article that measured just how addicted people were to games.

He stated that there were certain criteria that defined an addiction to certain things. He said that to determine addiction, you had to take in factors such as withdrawal and tolerance. With this measurement factors, he postulated that people who were addicted to gaming were really few. He even thought that it was absurd that a lot of people would score high on the said test. While there were people who might relate to four or five of the items, it didn’t mean that they had an addiction, he said. It was just that they had a problem with discipline.
Addiction does exist, Dr. Griffiths said. But these cases are, like he said, really few, and kids—the main focus of the study—can afford to go three or four hours per day playing these games without it posing a major threat on their education, physical education, or their interactions with peers and kids their age. He cites that while the addiction to games is there, the good news is that genuine addiction is only found in a tiny fraction of people.
So far, there has been no solid evidence on whether a wide-spread case of gaming addiction exists. Problematic gaming may be the proper term to suggest that indeed, there are cases where people can’t stop playing these games, or can’t put a game down. But gaming addiction and problematic gaming are two distinctively different things. Perhaps media is to blame, as they do tend to blow things out of proportion from time to time.

Citing the headline that compared gaming to drugs like heroin and coke, Griffiths presented his own opinion about addiction. He said that addiction only occurs when a certain object or stuff becomes the focal point of your life. It is an addiction if you feel that you cannot function properly without it, putting your relationships, work, and other activities at risk. Some people may display addiction-like components when playing games, but then again, it is not a barometer to say that these people are addicts to gaming.
The topic has been heavily discussed in media. There are some who cited that the headline was a ruse, a deliberate ploy to create mass hysteria, thereby creating a spike in sales, the true purpose of citing such a report. But is such a thing surprising? Well, business is business, and as one saying goes, even bad news is good news in the newsroom.
The cost of Hearthstone’s expansion – Curse of Naxxramas has finally came out.
The expansion can be bought individually using real money or gold earned from the game. In real money, the cost of each wing is $6.99, in Hearthstone currency that will be 700 gold.
Blizzard posted the price at their website and players have the option of buying five wings as a whole or individually. The expansion will have five updates that will be unlocked one week at a time after the first update.
The five Naxxramas updates or wings are known as the Arachnid, Plague, Military, Construct and FrostwyrmLair. Players who would like to get the expansion during the launch period can get the first wing for FREE.
But if a player misses the launch period, the first expansion will no longer be free and has to be bought first.
Listed below are the different payment schemes if the expansion is bought using real cash:
Each individual wing will cost $6.99
The whole expansion will cost $24.99
If player got the first the update for free, the four remaining expansion will cost $19.99
Single payment for three Naxxramas updates will cost $14.99
Single payment for two updates will cost $9.99
Blizzard posted this reminder to those who will buy the expansions, “Keep in mind that purchasing Curse of Naxxramas wings in bundles do not open or grant access to those wings faster than the one-wing-a-week schedule.”
Blizzard has not yet set a definite date for the release of the expansion, but said that it plans to launch the Curse of Naxxramas by July. Players who can successfully finish all the challenges in the expansion will be able to get a minimum of 30 cards.
For players who find the expansion too easy, there is a Heroic mode in which the Bosses are tougher than the regular ones. Blizzard claims that even veterans of Hearthstone will find the mode challenging.
Players who finished the Heroic mode will receive a new card back as proof of their success in battle.
The Dota 2 The International 4 Solo Championships have already concluded and if you missed the action, we’ll break it down for you here. There are a total of 8 players competing for the top spot in the 1v1 championships and the participants are all based on votes from the fans. In this setup, both players will be using the same hero so that it’s a matter of skill and technique rather than varying hero advantages.
Dendi VS Arteezy
Game 1 has both players use the Queen of Pain. It starts off with Dendi giving away a very early kill to Arteezy and thus eventually conceding the game.
Game 2 has both players use the Shadow Fiend and Dendi still has some questionable play as he played a little too aggressively and gave a Shadowraze advantage for Arteezy. Dendi concedes 2 minutes into the game.
S4 VS iceiceice
It was a Puck matchup for game 1 of S4 and iceiceice’s match. Both players started off with boots and tangoes. S4 pushes on to the high ground and dream coils iceiceice. S4 draws first blood but dies to a creep a little after that. S4 wins as iceiceice calls GG.
Game 2 has both players use Queen of Pain and S4 secured an early gold lead. Iceiceice decides to act but falls to S4 in a clash and calls GG.
fy VS Resolut1on
This match also features a Puck matchup and the game was more of a creep deny battle. Resolut1on used a non-flying courier to deliver items to him and fy saw this and tried to charge deep into the high ground to kill it. This leads to fy dying and calling GG.
A strong radiant side block of the creeps gives Resolut1on a strong starting advantage. The different skill builds used played to Resolut1on’s favor as his extra Shadow Strike damage was enough to secure the kill on fy.
MuShi VS Ferrari_430
Using Puck, Ferrari starts off strong by quickly harassing MuShi at dangerously low HP. Ferrari played aggressively but a well-timed counter from MuShi secures him the kill and the game.
For the Queen of Pain match, both players had different item builds but used the same skill build. Things were passive but Ferrari took a gold lead advantage and both used warding and counter warding. Ferrari comes out on top after a final clash.
The deciding game had both players use a Shadow Fiend and in what was immediately going to be a battle for souls, MuShi came out on top. MuShi tried to build on his advantage but the decision to forego boots ultimately cost him the game and the match.
S4 VS Arteezy
For the semis, Windranger was the first hero and both players were very evenly matched. Arteezy times the fight well and with no mana to Windrun away, S4 concedes the game.
Game 2 has both players use Lina and an overly aggressive play style from Arteezy as well as a failed stun attempt costs him the game.
For game 3, Shadow Fiend is the hero of choice and both players start out rather defensively. Arteezy tries to break the deadlock but a well-timed hit and long range raze from S4 secures the kill.
Resolut1on VS Ferrari_430
Both players used Windranger and both players played aggressively by trading powershots and hits. Resolut1on tried to go aggressive by diving the tier 1 tower but his Windrun ability popped too early and Ferrari was able to pick him off.
Lina was the hero used for the second game and it was Ferrari this time that was aggressive. Ferrarri tried to use an invisibility rune but misses on a Light Strike. A long range Dragon Slave though catches Resolut1on and secures the kill and the game.
S4 VS Ferrari_430
The first match used Puck and was extremely close. Both players used different item build and S4’s patience rewards him nicely as he initiates on Ferrari from the high ground and manages to secure the kill with just 30 HP remaining.
The second match featured the Queen of Pain and both heroes still had different item builds. Ferrari has the early advantage and forces S4 to play defensively. The runes go the way of Ferrari but S4 manages to hold on. S4 starts to catch up but Ferrari initiates and lets off a combo. S4 survives the initial attack but dies due to the Shadow Strike tick.
For the final game of the championships, both players used a Shadow Fiend. The trend of varying item builds continue and S4’s greedy item build gets him the advantage early. S4 gets boots and both players clash. Ferrari misses both razes and can’t escape from an S4 SF with boots.
The series, especially the finals were relatively close but S4’s strong showing helps him win this year’s Solo Championships. Congratulations to S4!

With the recent development about the establishment of Cliff Bleszinksi’s Boss Key Productions Studio, He is finally opening its doors with a new game that he has been working on after coming out of retirement.
Bleszinski just revelead BlueStreak; a Free2Play Sci-Fi arena shooter developed by BossKey that will be published by Nexon Games.
BossKey team will be collaborating with a Tokyo-based company, Nexon. Nexon is widely known for their Free2Play online games, and that is where BlueStreak will set its roots. In a post via Twitter, Bleszinski revealed BlueStreak along with its team-up with Nexon. However, he did not mention any specific features or gameplay that BlueStreak has.
While all of the features of the game remain a mystery to all of us, Bleszinski made his point by telling gamers that there will be no CG trailer showing fake gameplay for the game. He said that it is not how BossKey does things.
Bleszinski has been known for his work at EPIC games for more than 20 years. He is also the mind behind Unreal Tournament, Gears of War, Jazz Jackrabbit, and now, the CEO and founder of BossKey Productions.
While he is working on the specifics of the game, he did state his opinion about Oculus Rift that is going to be of use for BlueSteak. In a comment to a post on reddit, he said:
“It’s so cool that last night I dreamt I had it on and was in some sweet VR simulation and when I awoke I realized it was just the sensation of my sleep mask on my face that made me have that dream.
It was some Inception level shit.”
He also admitted that they have not been to any production nor shipping of Free2Play games. That is where Nexon comes along.
“I’ve never shipped a Free to Play game before. That’s one of the MANY reasons why we’re going with Nexon, they can provide server structures and a global peek into gamers of all types and guide us into a game that’s more “Shut up and take my money” as opposed to “shaking you down for your hard earned cash.” He added.
Executive Producer Rachelle Frank at E3 2014 Gameplay
If you are a real Sims fan and you found out that there will be no toddlers and pools in Sims, how would you react? Let me guess, rage? Definitely!
In a blog post by game producer, Ryan Vaughan, he expressed his excitement of seeing Sims 4 do unexpected and unplanned things again at the launch and at the same time he addressed the anxiety of the game’s fans towards the different scheme they are about to witness in Sims 4.
Gamers voiced their despair when the Sims developers omitted two of the games seemingly fundamental features, the pools and toddlers. It is but right that the game’s fans will question, “Why is it that they remove something from the base games when producing a new game?”
Executive Producer Rachel Franklin told one of the fans on the Sims official website that Developer EA Maxis omitted pools or toddler-aged Sims in The Sims 4 at launch because of the new systems built into the game. “The fact is, we owe you a clearer explanation for why pools and toddlers will not be in The Sims 4 at launch,” executive producer Rachel Franklin starts. “It begins with new technology and systems that we built for this new base game for The Sims – a new AI system, new animation system, new audio positioning tools, new locomotion logic, new routing intelligence and much more are all entirely new in this game. “So the bottom line is that when we sat down and looked at everything we wanted to do for this game, all the new tech we wanted to build into it, the fact was that there would be trade-offs, and these would disappoint some of our fans. Hard pill to swallow, believe me, but delivering on the vision set out for The Sims 4 required focus.”
In addition Vaughan wrote, “And though pool building won’t be available in September, we do have a new Fountain Tool so you can create sophisticated landscapes. Whether you were a novice builder in The Sims 3, or an experienced pro, I really think you’re going to love The Sims 4′s build mode.” Moreover the omission of toddlers mean skipping that stage of development.
Of course, fans responded in sites Reddit and Sims fan sites to express their disappointment and concern. It may seem overreacting but there has been a petition created (and signed by nearly 2,000 people already) to get the two features put into the game.
EA is still hopeful fans will change the way they look at the change when they have already played the game this coming September.
