Earlier this week gamely announce it was going to release a PC game client to add to its service. With this client you would be able to purchase PC games, manage your game q, as well as a feature that I see will make them the go to service for PC gaming and gaming in general. This new feature would let GameFly members have unlimited PC play. So basically just like how you rent games and keep them for as long as you like you will be able to do the same with PC games.
Rental of PC games is something from my understanding that hasn’t been done before. Usually you buy a PC game and you are stuck with it like it or not. Well this new feature would change all that so now you will be able to either try games before you buy them, or just rent beat and download another game and do the same. This is a feature that its competitors do not have and I see giving them the one up in the PC gaming store market.
To add to this non members will be able to use the service to pre-order upcoming games and to purchase used games. Gamers lucky enough to attend an event they are having in LA on Sept 8 will receive codes to participate in the closed beta. Expected public release will be sometimes this holiday season for UK and US members. So GameFly is loading its gloves up and is ready to deliver a blow to its competitors will it be a knock out? We will just have to wait and see. I see them still standing when the smoke clears what do you think?

Interesting. Valve should of thought of this a long time ago with Steam. They have the platform and the user base to pull it off.
Yea they dropped the ball by not doing this themselves. I don’t know what they were thinking about when they decided to go with the trade games not installed, and trade in game items route. I have a lot of games that I have yet to install and while it would be cool to trade with someone for something that I want I don’t think I will find my self doing that a whole lot. The trading in game items thing that they are trying to do is kinda stupid in my opinion. Why would I want to trade in game items? GameFly has come into this the right way giving us something that will be used often if not all the time. Like you said this is a feature I would have liked to have with steam as well but I guess they got beat to the punch. Either way its still a win win situation for us.
I hear ya, but it will be tough. There are reports that GameFly stated they currently have no plans to offer a digital-only subscription option. If they need to do this the right way, they have to somehow add that option. As for trading in game items, i thought it was stupid too, but Its actually pretty smart. The concept of a video game as a service is a smart move by Valve, increasing the user base and monetizing the game through transactions in-game. Why do you think Team Fortress 2 is now free to play? If want that weapon, or armor, you can buy it in game or trade for it instead of paying full price for the game, then paying for DLC on top of that.
It’s been done before but problem is catalogue of games doesn’t have a wide enough selection, and it’s mostly old games but hardly any new releases.
