What advantage does pc gaming have over console gaming other than better graphics? Seems to me thats the only advantage it has over consoles and things like mods for games really dont interest me at all. No, you heard them talk about games. You just dismissed the games they talked about because they weren’t Uncharted 2 or God of War 3 or said that they sucked even though they aren’t out yet. And you never really explained what is supposedly so amazing about GoW3 or Uncharted 2.

Small games like minecraft that focus on the gameplay play rather than beefed up graphics. Well known games like Starcraft 2 fall into this category for the same reason. It’s just like i said before; i would rather play an fps, rts or rpg with a mouse & keyboard hands down every time. And for the biggest reason why anyone would go out to get a gaming pc is for the fact that your not going to be just gaming on it. If i’m going to be building a gaming pc, its not going to be just for gaming. while consoles can browse the web, play music, watch videos (even edit them though the editor for ps3 sucks ass) its still incapable of doing many of these simple tasks on the same level as a pc. Your more likely to be getting your money’s worth if you were to go for a pc in the long run, regardless if its only for gaming. If your spending more than 600 bucks to buy a pc only to play games on it, your doing it wrong.
You know one of the big advantage of pc gaming, that lots of people don’t bring up is being able to host your own server. Like, for example; when a game a old game that you still play is no longer supported by a company and they bring down the servers you can still play online, where on consoles its dead. Also you can have full admin rights and completely control your environment. Don’t like a stupid troll ban; or racist ass hole ban without waiting, wanna add funny stuff add it, control the maps that are played etc etc. As far as i know you cant host servers on ps3 or 360.
Most of the advantage comes from the fact that not only does the pc have the ability to upgrade itself, but it also has the ability to multitask. It really doesn’t matter for mods though, but when you start to get bored of a game you know you can just search up an amazing mod, and enjoy. Your reason to get a gaming pc is its cheaper than you think, maybe it can get expensive, but your just too lazy to save up. And most people complain about the controls, well stop, because all you have to do is hook a 360 controller up to it. And if you dont want to buy a connector, well the 360 comes with one. As for the PS3, buy the controller, download and install the software.
The advantage PC gaming has over Console is its upgradability, PC users dont have to wait for the newest system to come out for Dx11, and when the newest and most improved Dx comes ut, we just have to see if our Graphics cards are compatible. Another is multitasking, can you watch Netflix, while surfing the Internet, while playing Oblivion, while looking at pictures, for most people graphics doesn’t matter, but for people who do care, they want the most realistic they can get, so they have Dx11. And if you even dare mention controllers, all you have to do is plug a 360 controller into your PC, or for PS3 just buy the controller and download and install the free software. Then the mods, they are for the people who get bored after playing a game multiple times, and guess what, the PC allows mods, legally. I play the 360, and I do enjoy it, but I hate when people start to say there are no reasons to get a gaming PC, to me there are more reasons to get a gaming PC, rather then a console
And what games can i play on it, but multi platforms? Playstation 3 has MGS4, GT5, and GOW3. Xbox 360 has halo and gears. Even the wii has mario. PC is about RTS and MMOs. Show me a PC exclusive in the same genre as MGS4, GOW3, or gears.

And a few good PS3 exclusives and a lot of forgettable ones will never convince me to buy a multiplatform game on a console when I can get it cheaper on PC, and have it run much better, and still use a controller if I want to. Not to mention I can download mods that change the game if I want to. -1 billion+ strong.

This video hasn’t convinced me that gaming on a pc is better though. Yeah a pc can do all of that fancy stuff but does that mean that I should just sell my PS3 and upgrade my PC? Hell no. PC gaming may be for some people and that’s cool but I personally don’t want to sit in front of my monitor clicking away on my mouse and keyboard when I can instead play on a wireless controller in front of my HDTV. I just like to game on PC because of the games to be honest,and the customisability of the games with the mods – there’s a huge modding community and more of a mature online gaming community, and I also like controls better for most types of games. So those are some of the obvious advantages of PC gaming. Oh yeah and also the graphics are better. Of course it’s not just PC with all the good exclusives, because different consoles also have a few good exclusives if you look around hard enough such as Halo Reach, Capcom vs Marvel 3, and God of Warr 3.

Well since you took a quote from me I guess I’ll respond. I don’t have the power to either allow or not allow consoles and pcs to co-exist. If I did I’d be a god and have better things to do then talk about pc vs consoles (like watch galaxies collide!). If you want to play on a pc and not a console then good for you. Here’s a cookie. If PCs are the ultimate gaming platform then why haven’t 250,000,000 copies of call of duty been sold on PC alone? World of Warcraft has about 13-14 million users but if there are 1 billion pcs out there then why aren’t WoW’s numbers in the hundreds of millions? I know that the last paragraph may come off as “PCs don’t sell better than consoles” or whatever but that isn’t my point. My point is that saying how many pcs are out there is useless when talking about the pc as a gaming platform since it’s pretty obvious that most people who own a pc do not game on them. I don’t know why you bring up the numbers game. Maybe some other dudes are spouting console numbers at you but I’m not.
“Great. Is everyone who has a pc gaming on it? I know I’m not.” Is everyone who has a PS3 gaming on it? I know people that I know personally and online who don’t game with their PS3 that was purchased simply for the use of Blu-Ray because it was the cheapest BR player around.
I typically game on my PS3 about five times a year and each of those times lasts for between three days or three weeks depending on the game. That means that I usually I buy about five games for it a year. So far I bought Dead Space 2 and Killzone 3 for it and have preordered Portal 2. I expect to get Resistance 3 in November. I also play Shatter, Everyday Shooter, and Trine sometimes even though those are all on Steam now. I like Gravity Crash too. I am pretty much finished with Flow(if you can call that finishing it), Flower, Burn Zombie Burn, Pixel Junk Shooter Critter Crunch, and will probably never play them again. I am considering buying Dungeon Hunter, N.O.V.A. and Eat Them! sometime soon. Also, I would buy Dark Myst and its add ons if I had some a $20 Hong Kong PSN card. That said, you don’t even need a PC that can run games at full settings for the graphics to be better than most console versions. Even Medium settings usually out do the console version by a bit. That’s how far behind those console GPUs are.
I game mainly on my 360 for about the same reasons as you. I have been on Live since the beta for Xbox and for me as far as multiplatform purchases it was always the Xbox and pretty much any exclusive I was interested in on the PS2 I picked up. That has been the case for the PS3 except in the beginning I mostly used it for a BR player & PSN games(Still can’t get enough of PAIN). Controller, friends & family, functionality of Live and the games simply fit me more than the they do on the PS3. I accept how PSN is. I don’t like the slow downloads or the browser or HOME but I accept it how it is and if the updates come to provide better functionality I am all for it. It still works for Blu-Ray and games so that is what I bought it for primarily. I PC game just as much as I do on consoles and it has been that way every since the Commodore 64. I personally don’t get off on the whole hype train about games like Battlefield 3. The game looks awesome but I will hold my hype until I actually get the game. I have been wowed so many times across so many platforms over the years and different variety of genres that graphics alone don’t just do it for me. Not much for me to be excited about the recoil of the weapon in hand when I myself and active duty Air Force and I have been handeling a weapons for years lol. My point with bragging about PC gaming only meant that people that PC game pretty much know like you mentioned about settings that don’t require it to be at full settings to get a better quality and performance on their system. But anytime someone hypes up about PC gaming that video they are gushing over isn’t set on medium settings. Followed with that comes the whole bragging from that perspective when they themselves know they can’t run it at those settings. If you want to build a powerfull system that can run games at full settings then more power to you. The only reason I have worked at Best Buy part time for years is for the discounts and accomodations. So building a new PC doesn’t get as expensive for me. But like you Emerey I just game. I don’t complain about how many exclusives if any are on a system or keep count. I think it is pointless to be concerned about how many systems have sold at this point when all 3 systems have been healthy and if and when the PS3 passes the 360 in sales it won’t matter over all. I believe MS and Sony don’t give two shits at this point if one passes the other because all they care now is about profit. MS hasn’t had official price drop in 3 years and Sony had one last year. It was already stated this gen would last a long time and evidence of the price of the systems alone tell you that already. I don’t see new systems coming for a couple of years still due to the current state of this gen. I personally can wait and have patience. I think a lot of multiplatform owners feel the same way.

I am trying to finish Killzone 3 and that was the case for Killzone 2. The single player story is just boring. The games look great althought suprisingly Killzone 2 seems like the graphics look better than 3.
DUDE, i honestly thought i was the only one who thought kz2 looked better than kz3. While kz3 looks amazing, kz2 blew me away the first time i saw it running in action and the attention to detail is ridiculous.
I think the biggest difference that I’ve noticed is the extra motion blur that KZ2 put on things is missing from KZ3. It made moving things (like a raider coming towards you and crashing) really stand out from the background, and it was a really cool effect that made you focus on the crashing vehicle a lot. KZ3 turned that effect way down I guess to make it feel more realistic so there is still some motion blur but not as much. Anyway that killed some of the visual drama.

I do not get how a current day console gamer and say anything bad about PC gaming. Have you looked at how you play games on console lately. DLC? Patches? Expansions? Registration codes required to play online? Yeah, consoles are so much better than PC gaming. It could possibly be that consoles becoming more like gaming PCs. You’re right. All of that stuff did indeed make it over from PCs and it’s made things worse imo. Please forgive me because I am going to go slightly off topic yet still stay on topic. If you buy a Japanese developed game you can pretty much rest assured that it will work correctly and not need patches to fix game crashing bugs. I’m sure that there have been some Japanese games that have had big game breaking glitches in them but I can’t think of any. Meanwhile western developers release buggy games all day. Why? Because most of these guys come from a PC background where for whatever reason it’s acceptable to release half cooked games that you can patch later. The Japanese developers have a background in making console games. Back in the day if you were gonna release a game on a cartridge you had better be damn sure that it was perfect. This mentality is still prevalent today. I wish western developers shared this philosophy. While there are some things that are cool (dlc add ons and demos) I would not be bothered if consoles were strictly offline like in the good old days. With the rise of online gaming and the current western dominance of the game industry today’s consoles are sadly just dedicated gaming PCs. As for the whole “PC is better than Consoles/Consoles are better that PC” thing there is no definitive answer. For me console gaming is better but for others it isn’t. That’s fine. Just don’t try to convince me that you’re right and I’m wrong. It’s all preference and opinion.

Consoles are closed ended gaming rigs that are outdated 6month after they release graphics card wise, since the cycle of GCs is about that amount. The 360 was outdated fairly quick in the PC world because the Xenos and Xenon werent tech breakthroughs in the PC world at all, the best thing technically about the 360 was consoles finally having a UMA setup. That was already a standard in the PC gaming world. The Cell Processor granted had more longegivity because its not a standard in the market place, but that aswell eventually became unorthodox because we have Multi Core processors with higher thread bandwith that can task faster then the current CBE. granted the Cell per $ in a Farm is more powerfull for raw processing then any Multi Core setup, but the point is that its GC is outdated aswell by PC standards despite the CPUs perks even further then the 360. Bottom line any body who is in denial about console gaming vs PC gaming is really a fool because there one in the same, its really closed end rigs vs open rigs…Consoles can never graphically surpass PCs due to the obvious refresh cycle, and anyone who says PC gaming is dead should check out WoW paid subscription numbers which can give the entire XBL a run for users per server. There is a level of ignorance i find with people that dont understand PC gaming, i love the PS3 this gen and have invested in it moreso then any other because it was the most powerful viable setup for what im using the consle for, but this is really a shadow compared to what a OC duel core or a Quad core custom gaming rig can do now adays…lol in the end its closed in gaming vs open ended gaming…and neither is dead moreso then the other…but console cant do what PCs can do..they can only port the versions the best it can when talking major graphical games ie. Crysis BF3… the only reasons consoles achieve there level of fidelity is strickly due to there closed end nature and the devs having to have to optimize the same GC for what is now 10 years. In the PC world , that simply isnt viable. Cheers!

Obviously it depends with everyone. Everyone plays different amount on each.
You get more bang for your buck from a console if you buy your games used and late. You get more bang from the PC though overall. And the buck difference isn’t that high. And you get a lot of versatility as well that consoles simply don’t provide.
i think i will have to disagree with consoles hindering each others end result quality , there is many instances of proof of instances where consoles have hindered each other. Anyone who can say consoles don’t hinder each others end result is in denial. There are things like development time, cost, R&D that play a huge factor in doing a multi plat game. ie. Orange Box Was the end product hindered by not enough R&D on the PS3 side?, of course! the game was developed granted not by Valve but we saw the most primitive coding done to create a “port” . They took the pipeline on the 360 and tried to implement that with the PPC on the PS3. They shoved the code entirely to the main core with no SPU optimization nor proper coding. This produced the most horrid end result i have ever seen on the PS3 system, while the 360 version being coded like the PC had a tolerable version that gave homage to the PC version. If release dates and R&D was no issue, we would’ve gotten a equally playable game, but in the end we didn’t. Other examples of this are games that want “parity” between consoles. Every developer strives for a level of “parity”. This is even being witness between consoles and the PC genre. But no one can deny that release dates due to development times where hindering the 360 version of Final Fantasy 13 as stated by Square which had already been completed on the PS3 side. Consoles due hinder each other in many aspects to state that they never is really not true as a absolute. Now to the extent that most make it out to be i think is a bit carried away but indeed there are shortcomings when doing a MP in which costs development time and what your team is capable of doing on a given platform to create the most optimized version they can create before a deadline.
with all dude respect on the “what is so special about uncharted 2 etc” i mean cmon guy the game won GOTY and numerous awards for tech and gameplay. Lets not be ridiculous as to why the game is mentioned heavily by the industry…in terms of consoles Uncharted represented a new level of appreciation for game development in general. I mean even DICE and Crytek admit that the game was a gem. Lets not get carried away here..lol..respect is due.

Ok I am the brother in law (^^^) he mentioned above me, he told me he posted here so I wanna chip in my thoughts. I bought a beast pc a couple of years back for about £600 quad core 9800gtx all that, all component being having been overclocked by me (that’s why he said die hard pc gamer). Yeh its true I have a ps3 which he kindly gifted me but HEEELLLLLLLLL NOOOOO am I leaving pc gaming, I definitley love how u can jus pick up the controller n mash out some gears of war or unchartered on the consoles, its very simple to just turn on n play,but theres a different kind of satisfaction when pc gaming, n no its not all about the pcs superior graphics, its also the potential complexity of the games which are greater. Of course greater complexity/graphics/modding don’t make a game automatially awesome but pc gaming is different n enjoyed by loads of people, it’ll never die out, think about it all the console games ever made where MADE on a PC.. One thing i hate about controllers is the fact taht theres no twitch reflex shooting possible, no1 can say they can pull of a headshot by panning across the screen quicker than a headshot using a mouse n keyboard Same on the other side i dont like the keyboards realism, the triggers on 360 n ps3 give it a slick feel when playing gears of CODding, especially the rumble function which u dont normally get in keyboards and mice, its all each to his own. torrance that video is the truth. pc always getting new hard ware and other stuff. consoles have the same hard ware since its launch. i mean tomorrow. what new hardware is going to be on the pc. hell. i guess console gamers are going to have to learn just because a game is not at gamestop sale floor where all those console games boxes are does not mean they dont sell pc games. you have to ask them to pre-order the game. like on MK launch night i went to my game stop and preorder the balls of steel edition on pc and going to pick it up on launch. the balls of steel edition is the duke nukem forever on pc. so they still sell copys on pc games but you need to pre-order then they are not selling that many copys of the game anymore on pc. aka they took them off the floor to save space.
i am just going to reply to my own comment. that you can use the xbox 360 controller on pc too. if you have the microsoft drivers. via the usb cable like for bulletstorm. since i know that i use the controller on pc. i dont really have a need for a console. just my ps3 and wii. but i dont need a xbox 360.
