Cross game chat delivers a more complete gaming experience. Also, there is the fact of a “unified” system with LIVE. All things are relevant when it comes to service. For one to say I don’t care about service is ridiculous: I don’t care about “rumble”: I don’t care about “Achievements”: I don’t care about “features”? I don’t care about “cross game chat”? Yeah, & every message board is telling the company they want it! When SONY gets these Items its great & its better than the competition? Whatever. As some say PSN is better than LIVE now? Ridiculous. Demand more!

Isn’t the selling point of OnLive is that it’s supposed to work on a PC with specs as low as yours? The issue isn’t of what hardware your running it’s of the service, at least in other peoples opinions and experiences. I myself don’t have OnLive so i have no first hand experiences with the service.
before Sony released the ps3, they had a project called “playstation world” which was a genuine rival to xbox live, magazines like psm3 and opm europe had seen a beta and from what i can remember it looked a genuine rival to xbox live with a totally different home hub than what we have today…the xmb. costs of the consoles production and launch price estimation had put the nail the coffin for playstation world, with the console the most expensive out of the three executives agreed it was best to not have a unified service like microsoft which people pay for and instead went for playstation network and kept online free which in their minds would be a true rival to xbox simply because of the lack of fees involved. judging by the millions that subscribe to xbox live i think its safe to say microsofts strategy has worked and i for one dont mind paying, what does it work out as.. a dollar a week or something? c’mon thats not going to bankrupt you is it?
that sounds pretty cool…. maybe they will save it for down the road with their next system or something.
@OOG let me tell everyone that the uncharted 2 game night was the FIRST time torrence and oog played the game online. the psn wasnt the problem it was YOU who didnt know how to get in games. i had no problem joining every game i played because i knew what i was doing. PS3 HAS CROSS GAME INVITES STOP SAYING THEY DONT!! if you press triangle all your friends will come up, then you can invite whoever you want. you dont have to be playing the same game to send an invite. nothing personal oog you just was giving miss information. i advise everyone to do your own research on games before you believe what you hear. this website is heavy pro microsoft. anyway if you want to game with me add me. psn mikey1123 xbox live mikemadden1123
Thats actually not cross game invite… cross game invite is the ability to send an invite and they accept them from the msg and all they have to do is put the disc in and the system does the rest and connects you to online and that game without any hassle. All you do in UC2 is send a msg saying you have an invite you cant accept it unless your in the game at the time. As far as my first time playing thats wrong.. I had 16 (some were coop) games logged in from October and I also had played the Beta as well. Also like I had mentioned in my little rant is the fact that you shouldn’t have to experience all different online options with every game and they should have at least some standards set to try and make the systems within the games similar to each other. So next time you may want to do a bit more research yourself because it doesn’t seem like you know what a unified cross game system truly is. PS I could post my trophy to show you when my first online game with the retail disc was.

No I will take your word for it. If thats the case then good thats a big step up. But it still doesn’t change the fact that it depends on the game etc so it can be a pain when your needing to rely on the game to support the feature and hopefully it will go to all games. Thats why they need a unified system that should be the case with every game Socom, Killzone etc…. Maybe down the road though but its still an issue… I guess were lucky enough that some developers are taking those extra steps.
just for laughs here is torrence UC2 stats as of today kills: 9 deaths: 22 kd ratio: 0.41 play time: 17 minutes wins: 0 losses: 2 co-op: never played these stats dont include the custom games.

that day was the first time you played. you were doing ranked matches before and after the gamer night. i posted your stats cause you said on the show you were used to the problems on UC2 multiplayer. and that makes no sense cause you only put in 17 minutes online. maybe now people will see your true agenda.
I also listed the problems that I knew about. The length it took to find a game and the difficulty adding someone to a game. That was NOT the first time I played online.

I’m personally sick of sim racing. I have been since GT3:Aspec, but I bought GT4 and soldiered on ignoring my feelings for the genre. Last year, I bought NFS:Shift(PS3) on sale on Amazon and Forza 3 in a B2G1F either at Toys R Us or Best Buy and both were pretty disappointing, not because they were poor quality, but just because I no longer fantasize about buying a Nissan Skyline and racing it in some Tokyo test track until I ‘earn’ an Audi TT or whatever. I ended up trading them in (along with Smash Bros Brawl and Marvel Ultimate Alliance 2(360) ) for FF XIII(Ps3) and God of War 3. I still haven’t finished FF XIII or even got that far in it. I’m sure that GT5 will be great but I’m pretty firmly into Burnout, Dirt, MotorStorm, or PGR type racers. I am considering getting Grid at some point because the demo seemed to play okay. And of course I’ll probably get Split/Second at some point. I just needed to get that off my chest. LOL.

Yeah see I never said gameplay was different just that it lacks features and needs a unified system.. it shouldn’t be a toss up of what your going to get with online depending on the game you play… there should at least be guidelines that guarantee the games will offer at least a set list of features. As far as cross game invites.. they are not true cross game invites like the ones im talking about for 360… but they are a big step up from having nothing before.

Dude, I played in the multiplayer beta. I only pointed out two issues: The time it takes to find a game and how much of a pain it is to get your friends in a game. ONLY TWO ISSUES that I’ve noticed with Uncharted online. That was in beta and in retail. The reason I never played it that much is because I’m not fond of 3rd person shooters online. How is that spreading misinformation?

@Bucnasty A real invite system under a unified online means that no matter what game I’m playing or they are playing I can send them a game invite and they can hit accept and all they need to do is put the disc in and let the system do the rest… thats part of a unified system that every game has in xbox because its built into the system software and network. Same with cross game chat/party chat/feedback system/voice messages/text messages/party invites etc They are locked under a unified system and all games must support the features. Sorry its not nit picking I have an issue I express it… if you don’t like to hear my opinion than skip it I don’t ask you to listen to me and agree with me… you don’t have to but don’t think that just because you see something as right means that everyone must agree hell no. We experienced something on Thursday and I expressed my feelings about it on Friday. I truly don’t care what everyone else was talking about on other sites because thats not me. when people talk npd numbers they should expalin that these companies are global and there are other countries over the ocean from the states, we just had the 360 slim release this week and over the weekend game & gamestation have had hundreds back with hd failures and problems withe power brick, i work in a games shop and we have had 6 back this monday morning with a e82 error !! so here we go again ! it would be interesting to see what number of people bought the slim 360 and the ps3 who were already owners of these consoles.
Oh please. This ‘only US’ crap is silly. Media create and Famitsu only cover sales in Japan and are weekly. You don’t EVER hear people saying that Media Create ONLY covers Japan or that Chartrack ONLY covers UK, Ireland, and Denmark. The only people who bring this “fact” up are people upset that the PS3 is regularly being outsold in the US Territory by the 360. Anyone who follows sales ALREADY knows that NPD covers monthly sales in the US and probably has known that at least since the GCN/XBox/Dreamcast/PS2 era. They probably also know that the ‘months’ can vary in length and that some chains like Walmart do not participate but that their sales are estimated and ‘included’. The “Winner” of this wolrd wide sales battle gets the honor of watching the Wii’s ass recede over the horizon way off in the distance. Big whoop. As to the rest, whatever. It’s very easy to make up stories about hundreds of 360S coming back “already” or whatever. It’s also very easy to overheat a system and film a glitch/shutdown error message on youtube. It’s easy to speculate about the size of a number you don’t really have that describes how many sales of the 360 slim are all from previous owners. We also don’t have the numbers of how many PS3′s were supposedly bought as Blu-ray player by non gamers. Why make stupid shit like this up? It’s only ever good for preaching to the choir. Nobody else believes it, nor should they. What’s hard is having a real answer about something that is backed up by credible evidence and not just rumors or theories, or wild internet claims.
there is no need for me to make any claims up, i work in a game shop that has 6 stores, not a huge company, but a fair size, 4 out of 6 stores have had the S consoles back with a 882 errors. Its not a made up story its simple facts, an internal email was sent round the largest game chain in the uk discussing the problem of faulty S consoles returns, if you dont wish to believe me that cool with me. i just wanted to point out that people love to talk up sales in their own respective contry, but all these companies are global, if a game flops in the US it could be a huge success else where, hence sequels you wouldnt expect, i just think people need to be be open minded when discussing sales figures. does really matter what ms or sony do they both lost to nintendo, which in my view offers less features, less quality games and is essentially for the majority aimed at children and families. To me its all irellivant since i dont get paid from sony,ms or nintendo, maybe is should stop visiting american websites.i just thought i would share my experience of the latest console re-launch.
I have had the 360s since launch and are you aware the 360s has a feature that is designed to shut the system down to avoid overheating? That youtube video that had those two 360 and the new 360s and he claims that Modern Warfare 2 was giving graphical errors. It wasn’t possible since his claim was it was overheating when the system is designed to shut down to avoid overheating.

Its probably down to the fact that people only care how something is doing in their neck-of-the-woods as opposed to how something is doing elsewhere, not to say that it doesn’t matter.
First of all, The bitbag’s podcast is the only decent podcast online, period. I don’t think I get through other ones, even the small ones, online without clicking them off after a few minutes. Okay, back on topic: Enslaved seems like it will be just as good as Heavenly Sword, but what I’m looking for is whether or not it’s going to have hundreds of characters onscreen like Heavenly Sword did. All I’m looking for is whether or not a game’s features can be replicated by the same company. I know that the gameplay/storyline may not warrant it, but since Heavenly Sword was supposed to be a 360 title in the first place, it would be interesting, as well as justification to 360 fans to see that the 360 can also pull off what HS did. I think the 360 can pull it off, I just want to see it.
Dead Rising sez hi. So does N3, Viking, Kameo, and multiple ‘musou’ games. Gears 2 had some ‘kill the distant horde’parts too. Crowd scenes (even interactive ones) are really nothing new this gen.

I am very excited about the Dead Space 2 comments. One of my favorite new IP’s this gen. The first was breath taking, with the talk you guys are doing about Dead Space 2, you have really set the bar high for me. It better be as good as you guys say. I am really psyched for this game. Also It’s interesting about HHG’s experience with Kinect. I hope that the developers get that straightened out. However, as for the casuals, Kinect is exactly what a casual market would be into. It is ment to be a “walk” up and play. Regarding the Move and the calibration of the controls. I think Mortal Kombat 9 is going to be the best fighting game this year. I am more excited about this Mortal Kombat game than ANY fighting game that has been released this gen. It’s great that Ed Boon has gone back to the roots of MK and did what we all wanted to see could be done for this gen consoles.
I have to say I have lost interest over the years with Mortal Kombat and have enjoyed playing Tekken, Dead or Alive and SF4 but quickly lost interest in them. I am very excited for MK9. It just brings me back to the first two.
SSFIv alone trumps any Mortal Kombat game, let alone tekken 6.

Thx OOG for venting your fustrations about PSN, you may sound like a broken record but all the things you said were true. I do not expect PSN to reach the level of Xbox live this gen as the infrastructure is just not there but that does not mean I don’t enjoy the online, you just have to make the most of it. IMO the main issues with xbox live are the shitty dedicated servers used for games like left 4 dead 2. I normally play this on steam but when I tried to play with some friends in the US, I continuously dropped from the game, if anyone nows a fix for this plz reply. I would also appreciate it if MS brought features which UK Xbox live members could use. I have ESPN through Virgin Media (cabel company in the UK) and they broadcast a fair number of english premiership football matches, and if they could provide a similar service for the UK it would be sweet. There is also no Netflix in the UK so a streaming service like this would be a welcomed addition.

There is also no Netflix in Canada .. and I don’t know if we will get ESPN… thats more of an issue with those companies than Xbox Live though… Netflix is an american thing and a seperate company to MS so they control where they stream to…. I do however wish they would try and find some alternatives for people in other regions of the world looking for extra features to make the value of live as high as it is in the U.S.

Ya I have my eyes set on LIMBO. It’s getting some very high reviews. I am grabbing it ASAP. $15 for a 5 hour game is a little steep, but reviews say it’s more than worth it.
It’s that old debate my friend, game experience/length vs the cost. In all honestly, I’m about the experience. I do factor in the cost, but at the end of the day, I want to have an amazing gaming experience. $15 for a 5 hr is a little steep, but i’m sure when i’m done with that game, it will be well worth it. I remember when butcher’s bay came out for the xbox, I bought that puppy and loved every second of it. 6hrs later I beat it and although I was sad I beat it so fast, I enjoyed everything about it. I’d rather have a 6hr memorable experience than a 30hr bore fest in which maybe 10hrs are actually good. At the end of the day, it’s whatever makes you as a gamer feel like you got your money worth.

PSN Plus is not designed to compete with live due to the fact that live is social based and pn plus is deal based. I wouldnt expect you to know this because you dont understand much besides Halo.

@ UsCoMmAnDeR I think his point was was that it’s $50 a year, and it’s only for the PSN Plus which like you said, is only for deals and savings on certain games. However for that $50 a year, you could have Xbox Live and have the greatest online experience available.
