Crytek, the makers of the Crysis series, have decided to make a huge jump that proves to everyone that PS3 isn’t the only machine that can do true stereoscopic 3D. Every console owner will be allowed to experience 3D when Crysis 2 hits PC, PS3, and Xbox 360.
Los Angeles, Calif.
– June 14, 2010 – This afternoon during Electronic Arts’ (NASDAQ: ERTS) press conference at the Electronic Entertainment Expo, Crytek GmbH, the award-winning developers of the Crysis® franchise, announced that Crysis 2 will also be available in true stereoscopic 3D. The blockbuster action game will be the first major video game on multiple platforms to take full advantage of true stereoscopic 3D. Crytek is recognized worldwide for being technical pioneers, as showcased in the universally-acclaimed Far Cry and Crysis, as well as their award-winning, proprietary CryENGINE® technology.
“At Crytek, we always strive to raise the technology bar. As the 3D revolution sweeps movies and television, we are excited to bring Crysis 2 to 3D, making it the first big action game to be available in true stereoscopic 3D,” said Cevat Yerli, CEO and President of Crytek. “The 3D experience represents a quantum leap in interactive entertainment. With all of the same story and action seen in the 2D version of the game, the 3D version adds another dimension of intensity and immersion to the action.”
Whether played in 3D or standard 2D, Crysis 2 drops players into a devastated New York in the midst of an attack by a frightening alien species. The alien enemies are armed with deadly weaponry and exceptional sensory abilities that test players’ skill and push them to the limit. These terrifying invaders stalk the streets of New York, leaving the streets in chaos and the skyline in flaming ruin. Surrounded by catastrophic destruction, players harness the superhuman abilities of the Nanosuit to level the playing field, becoming the ultimate weapon on a mission to save New York.
Built on Crytek’s new state-of-the-art multiplatform game development system, CryENGINE®3, Crysis 2 will be available for the PlayStation®3 computer entertainment system, Xbox 360® videogame and entertainment system and PC in 2D and 3D.

there goes the idea you need some special HDMI to do 3D… effing retarded
Yes it has been discussed before, you can view 3D via HDMI 1.3 if it’s 3D blue-ray you’ll need to run a secondary output for the audio.
Doesn’t this also remove the idea that you need A 3DTV in order to play 3D games? So if Crytek can make a 3D game to be played on the PS3 and 360, why can’t Sony make a game 3D on their system without the need to have to buy one of their 3DTV’s? Could Sony deliberately be using a technique for their 3D games that require you to have to buy a 3DTV in order to experience their games in 3D? So this is proof that any developer can create a game for any system and have it 3D. So does this take away Sony’s advantage of having 3D gaming? (not that they had it before since you need a 3DTV in order to experience their 3D games and NOBODY is going to invest into 3D gaming since HDTV is just now hitting the masses). Anyways, the downfall of all this 3D is that you still need to wear damn glasses. Nintendo have the right idea having 3D without glasses. But the technology used to do that is limited to the size of the screen the image is placed on. What will the future hold?
the future will hold 3d tv’s that require no glasses and is viewable from all angles. untill then we are stuck with wearing glasses..or you can buy a 3DS
I was hoping that the future would have a simple Download so that you didn’t have to change your current TV to 3DTV’s. And the 3DS is a done deal. I am buying 2 on day 1.
Yeah and EA is talking about charging more than $60 for games with 3d features. BOOOOO!
Ya that doesn’t make too much sense. Why would EA charge more money for a game that has 3D abilities when nobody owns a 3DTV to utilize the 3D applications in the game? Are Ea going to release 2 separate copies of the game? One with 3D and one with 2D? if not, then why should I have to pay extra for a feature that I can’t utilize or don’t need? So could Sony be to blame for the increase of costs to gaming on their system? Had they not chosen to go all out for 3D gaming, EA wouldn’t be considering to charge more for their 3D games. And if EA only has 1 sku for the game, that means I have to pay extra for a feature I can’t even use.
Contrary to belief this doesn’t mean you don’t need a 3D TV to view 3D media. 3D requires different video processing and while some TVs may be able to receive an update (firmware) to become 3D capable ala our “HD ready” branding we had years ago this isn’t the case for the majority of TVs sold and purchased before this year.
I’m curious how they are going to pull off the PC 3D Crysis 2 deal, because technically there are no PC monitors that are 3D yet. It’s still way to early. And even if there were, it would cost a lot of money. I know you can use the televisions themselves, but it would be just a little too much of a fuss unless you are using it on a laptop.
