Microsoft’s conference started out wonderful and petered out at the end. The Kinect stuff was cool and they WILL take some marketshare from Nintendo. That’s the whole point. Luckily Ubisoft showed a hardcore game using Kinect today that was VERY impressive. Like Flow meets Geometry Wars.
Microsoft proved that they are truly more into 3rd party support than first party. This is nothing new. This conference was actually better than last years. I wish there were more 1st party IP’s but again, this is to be expect. Everyone who has stated that Microsoft has failed E3 or Kinect is just Eye Toy is clearly delusional about video games. There are haters everywhere but if you want the truth, come to me. More later on this.

That’s exactly the point, though. MS is trying to change the 360 from a gaming platform to being your digital entertainment center. That’s been their plan the whole time. From Netflix (and consequently Party viewing), avatars, short-lived HD-DVD, wireless network connectivity as an option (now a feature)… MS has been aiming to get more casual, non-gamers onto their platform, and let the 3rd parties handle the hardcore. And they’re doing it well. Kinect is going to do just that.

That press conference was very disappointing. They showed 4 core games that we already new about and no new core ips. 80% of it was casual stuff. That was the worst conference MS has ever done.

I think MGSR is multiplatform. I haven’t been that impressed by most exclusives this gen though.A few were realy good but mostly I like the multiplatform games the best. I think if I had to depend on exclusives on either 360 or PS3 it would be pretty sad.

If I had to choose which games I enjoyed more from the mikemadden’s list for fanboys. It would be Gears3, Halo Reach, KZ3, MGR, Fable 3, COD, Motor Storm 3, LBP 2 then Infamous 2. Since Gears and Halo I personally look more forward too, I would disagree with Mikemaddens comment about “sony already announced better exclusives”. Although all those games will be great games.

How is anyone surprised?? We all knew what was going to happen. Then everyone runs online and cries about it. Again, how can you be sad when you knew exactly what the press conference was going to be. Kinetic with casual games, gesture controls for your xbox and Halo reach with Gears. I was unhappy way before e3. I’m more unhappy everyone acts like this was a big let down. I had low expectations going in and it delivered my low expectations. I for one have no desire for motion gaming thus I don’t own a wii. So in conclusion if the price is more than 60-70 for kinetic with a game, I’ll pass.
Not bad, I was expecting more game announcements. No Crackdown 2, or other unknown multiplats coming out later this year. Metal Gear Rising was by far the best thing there along with Kinect being used to navigate the NXE. MG Rising looked better than Solid, and is competing for best graphics as far as I’m concerned. The thing that bothered me was the enemy AI. Kinect with the NXE was amazing. Voice controlling everything is sweet, but as far as NATAL games, STRAIGHT BOOTY. I have a little hope for Star Wars, but everything else BOOTY. Halo Reach looked good, but it was kind of boring just because the part they showed was the same old Halo until the space dogfight which was a no brainer yet brilliant. Fable 3 looked like more Fable nothing to get excited over, especially for me since I didn’t care for Fable 1 and barley liked Fable 2. COD: Black Ops DLC exclusivity was no surprise. Gear 3 4 player co-op is sweet, but I wanted to see more. Again overall good conference, but not what I was expecting.

If you plan on buying Kinectimals and playing with fake virtual TIGERS and have them FAKE lick you then you loved this conference. I’m in the same boat as you, this was probably Microsoft worst E3 conference, at least in the 360 life cycle. I don’t wanna jump in kinect adventures or play a bunch of games that as you say look like they belong in a 100-in-1 handheld. I wasn’t before but now im thinking Ninetendo just may show both Sony and MS up.
They had to fill 40 minutes with Kinect because THAT IS WHAT THEY ARE SELLING AS THEIR PRIMARY CENTRAL PRODUCT RIGHT NOW. That is their main focus and it’s very much what they intended to do with their time. Do you remember 2008? This was a Nintendo 2008 moment for MS fans and fanboys. Nintendo fans wanted a new Zelda, a new Metroid, a new Mario, a new Smash Bros, a new Mario tennis, a new Pikmin, a new Gameboy, and they got thirty painful minutes of Wii $#@$ing Music instead. MS fanboys wanted a new bag of fancy ammo to carry on the console war and they got handed a box of raisins and a little book and told to shut the fuck up ’till church is over. CLUE: MS can’t do everything at once. And MS is all about building a Kinect empire for the foreseeable future and they want to make Mom, Grandma and Skittle’s little friends happy right now. They gave Xbox fans some more Halo and some 3rd party and maybe they’ll notice you again and throw you a bone by early 2012. They don’t want to hear grateful Xbox fans cheering right now. They want new people to come in and do Facebook/twitter and video chat and watch ESPN and buy Zune songs and movies, stream Netflix, play with Skittles, do yoga and otherwise make the 360 and Xboxlive print money. And you know what will happen if this strategy works out for MS? PROBABLY, SONY WILL DO THE SAME THING NEXT YEAR EVEN HARDER THAN MS DID THIS YEAR OR NINTENDO DID BACK IN 2008. Unfortunately I fear the pricing model for invading the once blue water is WRONG. We’ll see though.

After watching MS’s conference, I don’t see why it was so bad. MS showed gameplay footage from 2 of their top franchises which are also 2 of the biggest franchises out this Generation while last year Sony only showed a bunch of trailers ie. GoW3 and everyone didn’t have a problem with that. MS also showed Fable 3 and announced an exclusive game coming from Cryteck. Seems to me that 4-5 hardcore games coming out within the next 6-8 months is pretty good considering MS doesn’t announce anything that is not coming out within a year…unlike Sony who announces games that won’t come out for years. So we know that these hardcore games will be accessible to play soon. I think MS covered exactly what they needed to cover. History has shown that only about 4-6 exclusives are released a year for each console and MS have just shown you 3-4 of them. Yes most of the conference was Kinect, now suddenly EVERYONE forgets that MS said Natal/Kinect was going to be launched as a new console? The reason why the conference was so devoted to Kinect was because it was the introduction of Kinect. they wanted to show what it can do and who is supporting it. I for one was VERY interested in seeing what MS was going to bring to the table regarding Kinect and in my opinion, they delivered. Not to mention a new look for the 360, which I will be getting along with Natal. I bought a PS3 slim and will also be buying Move. Now we all know that Sony has already announced all of their exclusives…just like MS did before their conference, what do you think Sony is going to do for their conference…I will tell you. A large portion of the conference will be MOVE. Motion controls. Sony knows that in order to show off MOVE in a proper manner, then needed to open up some time, so they announce all the exclusives so that more time can be focused on Move. If you were disappointed with MS’s conference, be prepared to be disappointed with Sony’s. I for one knew exactly what each MS and Sony had planned, and it was to show off motion controls. The only conference that won’t be showing off motion controls will be Nintendo….because they already did 4 years ago and have dominated the console market since….with nothing but motion controls.

Are you serious? When I say year I don’t mean January to December, I mean E3 to E3. God this information is on the internet. Use your head, research. MS doesn’t announce 1st party or contracted exclusives that are outside of their 1 year announcement, again E3 to E3. That exercise game using kinetic was dope, and now my gf is begging me to buy a 360 cause of that dance game. Microsoft did a great job implementing those 2 types of games. But like Ive said in previous post, thats about as far as that type of motion control is gonna take you. Fitness and dance games. Everything else your gonna need an analog stick to move around with. I see an on rails Jurassic Park game in the works though. That would be dope.

So many people on this site lose focus as to what MS was doing. The conference was designed to target the casual market. I too am hoping that My wife will go for the work out games done by Ubisoft and EA. It will save me money in the long run not having to pay for her YOGA and Booty Boot camp crap that she is addicted too. @LordVonPS3 “I don’t know how well a dance game can really work considering how very dependent it is on timing & the inherent lag of Kinect.” - EA said that kinect was 1:1 during their display.

@MikeMadden I see reading is not a strong suit of yours as well as rational thinking. MILO was a DEMONSTRATION of what Natal would be capable of. IT was NEVER stated as a game. Yet I do recall seeing something called Kinectimals which is based off the same principle as MILO at this years E3 WHICH will be a launch title when Kinect is released in November. Crackdown was delayed. Which would mean that MS wanted to release the game within it’s alloted time frame but couldn’t. Delays happen, being a Sony fanboy, I thought you would have been used to those.

I will be getting Halo Reach, MGSR COD black ops, Fable 3 and Gears of war 3. As a tech junkie I will be buying Kinect along with the work out games to try and get the wife interested in gaming or at least bridging the gap between consoles and her lack of acceptance for gaming. Now Mikemadden let me ask you, as a “gamer” what will YOU be buying at Microsofts conference?
from what i seen MGSR is a first day buy for me but i’m getting it for my ps3. halo reach and gears are rentals in my book because their previous games were lacking. yep thats it one game. and i’m not buying it on their console. if only microsoft would have made online gaming free. their conference could have bumped to a C+ or B-. but as it stands it got a D+.
I’m gonna rent Killzone 3. Killzone 2 looks good but it was a lacking game. And infamous 2 is probably a rental too. LOL. I’m not even touching Move. That cuts things down to size eh? See how easy it is to be cheesy and polish up one side and then take a crap on the other?
@Mikemadden - Dude you are entirely in the right to like and dislike anything you want. To me Gears is the greatest new IP franchise out this gen. But that is just me. I love the mindless over the top guy movies which is why I probably like Gears so much. As for Halo, I have been a fan since Halo CE. As for Live, I can understand what you’re saying, nobody in here “wants” to pay for live, but it is what it is and to me $50 a year is nothing. To put it into perspective, I pay $100 every 2 months for Protein powder for my shakes. Now that gets costly.
As for your MS conference grade, it’s cool, as there wasn’t much or what you were expecting at MS’s conference, as for me I would give it a B as there was a lot of stuff mentioned that I was interested in. It’s all good though, we both have opinions. It’s nice to see you talking like this and having a mature conversation rather than only seeing the “STFU” comment on a 1 line reply.

I know people are gunna bitch at my comment, but i thought the microsoft press conference was a bit underwhelming, i was really wanting more new games, i mean kinect is kool and all but im not interested, and halo looked awesome but halo doesnt interest me anymore, da new SKU is sik, but seeing that i just got a New Elite in December its kinda fucked up! i mean there werent many things really if you think about it… i guess the only good things were Call of Duty, Crackdown 2….
