Dance Central- Harmonix gets Kinetic

Dance Central- Harmonix gets Kinetic

Before you judge, keep in mind this isn’t geared to the hardcore gamer, but I mean c’mon you like  ROCKBAND right? So what if you can’t dance, this game will actually teach you something, it’s called rhythm!

Before you say “this is stupid”, you have to try it first. At least watch the trailer.

I have a feeling that if you love the beauty of harmonix and aren’t afraid to get down and have a good time, you will enjoy dance central. I’ve been dancing for about 7 years. The second I saw this game my eyes lit up. It’s not like “Just Dance” on the wii, it tracks all your motion from your top stepping to you arm waving.

Dance central is made for everyone. Can you say epic party game? Not only is it fun, but its entertaining for not just you, but the people watching. Once I was behind the scenes with Harmonix I ran over to the dance central booth and jumped on stage, I couldn’t wait to try this out. No controller, no problem.

It felt like I was really performing. I didn’t even have to spend 40 mins to memorize it. Just break it down and play. What I didn’t like about “just dance” is the fact that you need so many accessories just to play, all you need is kinect and you are done.

It took a minute to recognize me but once it did it totally was unreal.  I selected “funky town” by waving my hand through the air, and then swiping it from right to left.

Simple.

There are two modes to select as of the demo, break it down and perform it.
First I broke it down, learned some of the moves and picked it up fast. Then I got into it.

Performance. To the right of the screen you have three icons. One shows you what move you have next and  Another icon shows what move you are performing. The top icons show you what you just did, essentially giving you a real time cheat sheet for choreography.

I’ve done choreography for years, and these moves I can tell were made by real choreographers and not just programmers. The moves are full of rhythm and culture. You can see moves taken from the funky day of the 70′s and the dance club days of today. Talk about classy!

You learn some of the moves in break it down. Basic motions giving you practice and teaching you how to master it. They showed the first 5 or 6 moves I learned in break it down and threw in some new ones. I picked it up pretty fast and scored really high and put it on hard mode. The dancers were impressed and even in those few moments, I started to sweat. It was a lot of fun and its amazing exercise. I got a dance central towel. I felt special.

It’s not just a one player game, it can go up to three people at a time. Talk about a party, I see me and my family getting really competitive with this. Trying to top high scores and having a ton of fun. After all I have to admit my family is hopelessly addicted to Rockband.

This game is geared towards the social gamer, and people who love to dance. If you really want to light up the stage and learn some awesome dance moves, this is a title to keep an eye out for.

I know the second I pick up kinetic this will be the FIRST game on my list. I have a video of me dancing in dance central. To be posted later when I can transfer footage!

I believe this was the best game shown for Kinect. It allows the player to use their entire body which is cool. I really couldn’t think of a better game to promote Kinect. I like dancing and so does my family. I would definitely pick this up when I decide to purchase Kinect. As long as they continuously bring out new DLC of songs, Microsoft and Harmonixs might have a “casual hit” with this. It would be nice if they implemented this with maybe a karaoke game.

  2. I knew the dancer in KP couldn’t resist. *Wonders what you think about the MJ game*

If they actually showed ANYTHING I’d be excited. Who knows! Either way if its real, you know I’ll buy it. -Kristen

I got to try this first hand at E3 and it was HELLA FUN! The kinect controls are ridiculously cool and the moves are pretty easy once you get the hang of it. Clear some space in your living room because if you like to dance this is a MUST BUY!

Women are the only demographic that this will appeal too. As the saying goes men dont go to a club to “dance”, they go there to pickup women. Im sure if this does well we will see a sequel every year.

    • CharlieKun says:

Umm, this is going to appeal to the men that are also dancers, such as myself. Ever heard of or seen guys going to clubs to dance battle, or freestyle with friends? which in turn – gets you lots of female attention which equals getting more girls than the next guy who cant dance?

    • you know being able to dance really helps you pick those women up right?

My eyes also lit up when i saw this. If it gets continued support and as long as the shapes you have to make are very strict then I reckon its going to be the next big rhythm game. My only concern is if its going to be able to easily identify the more advanced/intricate dance moves, like waving, tutting or locking moves like skeeter rabbit or scoobot. (they had the funky guitar in there but i imagine the camera jus reads your hand and your knees rising up) I cant wait to see the harder difficulty settings to see what they do with it. :D

    • the camera should have no problems seeing all of your joint movements with ease… I’d be more worried about slight movements if you’re wearing baggy clothing

  6. I know from watching Scrubs that the only men who are allowed to dance in public are black guys and quiers.

Hey! I was curious to know if setting up a blog website such your own: http://www.thebitbag.com/2010/06/15/dance-central-harmonix-gets-kinetic/ is difficult to do for inexperienced people? I’ve been wanting to set up my own blog for a while now but have been turned off mainly because I’ve always believed it demanded tons of work. What do you think? Appreciate it
