Slightly after Assassin’s Creed 2 dropped a rumor surfaced that the developers wanted to continue to the story of Assassin’s Creed 3 with Ezio returning as the main character. As most of you know this is very different from what happened between the first Assassin’s Creed and the sequel. With Assassin’s Creed 2 we got a new time period, protagonist, and location. Now it seems more and more likely that the third installment in the Assassin’s Creed franchise will be set in the same time period with Ezio returning as the main character. This was slightly confirmed today during a third quarter financial conference call with Ubisoft who explained that gamers should expect to see Ezio again, only this time in Rome.
While I would love to play in Rome, I am slightly disappointed by this announcement. Reason being that the Assassin’s Creed team is so great at creating interesting open world environments and characters that I wanted to see what they had planned next. Rome is a great city, and there are plenty parts of Europe that Ezio can explore during this time period, but a fresh story is something that I think Assassin’s Creed fans appreciate. There are plenty of interesting time periods to consider like The French Revolution, The 30 Year War, World War II, The American Revolution, etc. The possibilities are endless for this franchise, so I hope that they do reconsider this. I love Ezio and Assassin’s Creed 2 is one of my favorite games this generation, but I’m willing to say goodbye to him to see what Ubisoft Montreal can conjure up in terms of a new story. Hopefully, they aren’t just doing this to cut down development costs and speed up production to pump out a sequel.
Rumor: Good chance we’ll see multiplayer in Assassin’s Creed 3. Co-op or competitive? We don’t know, but it is something that Ubisoft is looking at.

I don’t know why people still say its Assassins Creed 3. One of the articles the devs said “there will new assassin’s creed game (not really AC3)”. That obv means AC2.5 and people still say AC3 lol. They said AC3 will have a new assassin but anyways can’t wait for this. UBI already stated at E3 that ezio would be in the 3rd game.

I dont know where Erl_Fly is getting his info from lol? They werent talking about AC3 at E3. The only mention of future AC’s that I heard was when Patrice (games director) told us that he has enough ideas for stories that he could make AC 6-7-8 etc. Last E3, was the first time anyone saw AC2 in action, they were focusing on that game. To Killa… Maybe you are onto something. Maybe the next AC wont be AC3, but it will still be the next major installment of the series. Maybe it will have a title like Assassin’s Creed: Bloodlines did or idk. Anyway they are probably doing this to milk the franchise now that they got it right with Ac2. Probably have a small team working on this so they can get some AC goodness out in 2010. Then in 2011 they release AC3. I think this will be bigger than Libery City because of the fact they are adding multiplayer for the first time ever in the franchise.
Yeah online is the major feature in the “next installment” which will highly get more sales. Replay value= Buy.
Yeah i can’t see AC3 featuring Ezio as the main character, just because for two games the time periods were so different and the main focus is based off of a lineage of assassins, not just one. I can see what Killa and Matt suggested in which this is more on the lines of bloodlines and not a full fledged third installment in the main series. I would love to see this as more of an expansion in the current installment where it’s possible to kick more ass with Ezio. I think they looked at Uncharted 2 and took pointers on how to use certain mechanics and bend them to perfectly fit their ideas for multiplayer. If done right it could be awesome.
all i will say is time will make my statement tru! If you went and talked to the ubi guys they said that they wanted to keep ezio for the next game…

Who knows… I mean Altiar was in AC2. And I think, well I hope, that AC3 will have you playing as Desmond and an ancestor. Switching back and forth throughout the game… maybe even jump through different time periods…
I agree with mista_bonez cause in the end of AC2 Ezio discovers the temple and Minerva said that hope was up to Desmond, to me meaning that there are more than 1 temples and that desmond will have to go through various other Ancestors to discover or the world will go to flames once again.I think that this leads to 2012 and more play with Desmond. AND at the end of the game Desmond and Lucy have to fight the weird Templar Vidic and he gets away…. leading to another game but to were??
Actually the third game isn’t the true sequal to AC2. It’s called AC Brotherhood and is just a hold off for AC3. Hey David.
Ugh, REALLY! That is so stupid in my opinion! What I think is that they should move back in time to England in the 900′s AD because in AC2 when your the modern-day Ezio (I don’t remember the dude’s name) near the middle when you “pass-out”, I don’t think that was even in Italy, let alone the 1480′s. The guards, if you noticed, wear uniforms with the English Cross, that looks like the American Red Cross symbol. So, you must be wondering why I’m talking about this. I’m saying that I don’t think it was a memory of Ezio’s… I think it was a preview/hint of what going to happen in AC3!!!!!!!!!!

Let me solve this for you if I may. The producers have made Assassins Creed: Brotherhood which will be released in November which is supposed to be 2.5, with that, they hope to keep the story of Ezio moving along and to introduce the new function of group assassins. The function will most likely be used by Desmond in AC3 with maybe Lucy being in that group. Anyways, I am trying to say that Desmond will be the real main character in AC3 besides anyone else from the past.
As people have said, the next game to come out is Assassin’s Creed: Brotherhood, which is not Assassin’s Creed 3. I do have a theory for Assassin’s Creed 3 though. I was reading somewhere that AC3 won’t occur before AC1, but there is a chance it may occur before AC2. In AC2, you flashback to Altair at one point, and when you climb the tower you meet Maria. Afterwards, the memory stays with Maria, and not Altair. It is implied that Maria is now pregnant with Altair’s son, could this be the person Desmond will flashback to in AC3?
