I gotta comment on the whole Video Game Marketing Fuss.
Since when did Marketing become more important than game quality?
Is it better to have a Great game that sells 2-3 Million units, or a mediocre game that has it’s own Mountain Dew and sells 10 Million?
If your a real gamer you should only hope that the game is amazing, not that everyone has been tricked into buying a half-assed game.
If Infinity Ward would have spent less on advertising and more on the actual game itself, then we would have a game that is actually better than the first MW. (then maybe we wouldn’t have to look at a green map for the storyline)
Halo 3 is a prime example of this.
Halo 3 had a $25 Million game budget, & it had a $25 Million Advertising budget, and we wonder why Halo 3 doesn’t come even close to the quality of Halo 1 or Halo 2.
If they would have spent $45 Million on game development, and $5 Million on advertising, we would of had a much better game.
Game developers dont need to sell 10+ Million to make a profit. I say cut back on Marketing, and worry about the QUALITY of your games.
I could sell 10 Million copies of Vampire Rain with a $25 Million Dollar Advertising Budget, but that doesn’t make it a great game.
Let the Quality of your game sell units.

…… big problem halo 3 was every bit as good as halo 2….. people only like to complain because its the same atmosphere and gameplay…. but its all part of the same trilogy… if the game was trash like you say they wouldn’t have 150,000 people playing at one time and over 500,000 per day…. so yeah… bad example honestly….
Personally I haven’t even played Halo 3 since I think its first month out… other then a few random co op sessions a few months ago….but doesn’t mean the game is bad I just wasn’t feeling this one.

I do agree however that the companies should worry about quality more …but on a business standpoint they need to be doing advertising because if they don’t all their hard work doesn’t get what it deserves. You don’t need a large advertising budget you just need to be able to cause buzz with your games… some companies have done this successfully… and some haven’t.

Guess what…games that can sell 10 million copies don’t need to pay these companies for advertising because these companies usually approach them because they can generate a ton of money for them…. don’t be fooled thinking that these game companies go and spend tens of millions on “mountain dew” etc… its all a joint business effort….. tons of businesses will search out potential businesses and take most of the cost in order to get the buzz from the products… Hell the star wars movies used to do it with KFC.
Im not saying Halo 3 & Modern Warefare 2 are trash, but when you have a $50 Million Dollar budget to make The Most important franchise on the 360, and you only spend half of that money ($25Mil) on the game,, dont you feel like you are getting half assed game?
Halo 3’s Single player campain was atrocious compared to halo 1 & Halo 2. The game was only good enough, instead of Mind blowing.
Microsoft & Bungie could have not spent a single cent on advertising, and still sold 5Million units. Now imagine if they would have spent the time and money on making one of the best FPS ever made, how well they would have done.
I know what you are saying about having to advertise as a good buisness model, but as a gamer why should we give a shit about Microsoft/Sony/Nintendo Investors?
Look at Uncharted 2, and realize that they didn’t have a big advertising budget, and they have sold almost 3 Million copies.(that translates into tens of Millions of Dollars PROFIT) I would rather have the masterpiece that we got, instead of a toned down version of a game that had a little bit better sales figures.
Uncharted was their main game in any of their new commercials… so it was advertised more than any other Sony games.

Why are you so mad about halo? its broke sales records and is one of the highest and longest played online games out. They made there money back and tons more and have enough to make whatever they want. When you go to gamestop, or where ever you get your games from nobody forces you to go buy halo. Nobody forces you to buy a ps3 and play uncharted, nobody forces you to go to the store and get a wii and play mario. You have a choice and you make your choice based on what you want. So why would the success of halo bother you other then being a hater? Uncharted 2 got game of the year bam if thats all you ever cared about was a game getting game of the year bam there it is. why aren’t you happy? If I thought Halo 3 was not worth buying, I would have not bought it. I have logged several hours into the game, but I do wonder why a handful of developers insist on decreasing the Quality of their games.
As a gamer of both an Xbox 360 and a PS3, I see most game developers have a major desire to improve their sequels. I cant say that about Bungie and Infinity Ward.(both worth buying)
I look at developers like Kojima/Bioware/Ubisoft ect ect, and it is annoying that we have to settle for a game that is only made to be good enough, instead of knowing that the people that make the game actually care for their final product.

I liked both uncharted games but what level is naughty dog on? They made an awesome game on a very powerful console and being a first party deb they took advantage of that console. It’s the same with bungie, who the fuck is bungie? All they have made is halo 1,2,3 odst . 2 consoles and they have made 3 -1/2 games. In my opinion. Insomniac has done a better job as a developer than naughtydog. You got the resistance games and ratchet and clank games.
Bungie has been known alot longer than the Halo series. Myth series helped put them on the map along with Oni and Marathon.

But that is all they need to be is devs. Your asking for somthing not everyone is going to provide and rarely gets the opportunity based on funding or skill to do. Bungie, Naughty Dog or any dev doesn’t need to redefine anything. They simply need to bring out a good product and the industry/consumer will decide with their reviews and money as to what they create. I have enjoyed the Halo series due to both the gameplay and story that includes the novels. I like the atmosphere and it is why I keep playing the games. It also helps that I like FPS and RTS(hello Halo Wars)
I enjoy Uncharted for what it does but I played through it one time but appreciate the story and gameplay it did provide and moved on. It isn’t the type of game that has me wanting to play it over and over. Batman, Halo, Forza, MW2, Cartoon Wars- Gunner on my Iphone have me constantly hooked and coming back because they are simply fun. Nothing was redefined with those games they just provided me what a fun time. I am sorry to say you are in the minority when it comes to complaining about companies redefining genres. Majority just want to play a good game that makes it worth their time. Majority are not into every genre and I am included in that group. Bottom line is not every game in every genre is going to make that happen. Halo and MW2 sale and get played by millions for many reason besides trying to redefine. Personally for me I don’t need Reach to play completely different to get excited. I was there when I first saw it in 99 at Macworld. 2002 with lan parties in Al Dafra when I was deployed for 8 months prior to the Iraq War or playing Halo 2 online for the first time. The fun simply hasn’t stopped for some of these games that hasn’t changed what I don’t need them to drastically change. I don’t live off of reviews and sales for my enjoyment. I am the best reviewer for games for me as far as that goes. Maybe I am just more simple with accepting and understanding how the buisness and technology is compared to you. I don’t waste my time with some of those concerns.

I’m up to the motion stuff and wanted to know why what ms is making with nark is a copy but Sony isn’t copying when they actually ripped off nintendos actual wand. Also going from the wii to the ps3s motion control isn’t a new experience like hhg says. The onlything different is the texture quality and the wii isn’t selling because of the graphics so I don’t see the average person wanting a ps3 for the gem. Same goes for natal but I do think the natal could be awesome tech if done correctly.
The title of this warzone is pure sensationalism. I am convinced that they are making this statement now due to the gap of sales between ps3 and 360 shrinking every month. 360 fans would rather say nintendo won the generation, rather than saying ps3 outsold them. Don’t know what the problem is, but the last episode and this episode of the warzone can’t be downloaded from iTunes. This episode stops at 54% with an error code. I then downloaded the podcast download above and it did the same thing, now I’m downloading the alternate version and looks like it will all download. Is Torrence or who ever is responsable for uploading to iTunes aware? or is just me (I have no issue with all the other podcasts I listen to)?

Ive been listening to the warzone for a couple of months now and have put up with alot of hiphopgamers faulty logic. The Contradictions, the pro sony rhetoric, and the ignorant attitude.
Yes sometimes he makes good points in some debates when he is civil, but the reckless talk and bad information that comes out of his mouth outweighs the good. This man needs to take a hiatus from the hiphop-gamershow site and go to some sort of Gaming school because he is a deeply flawed videogame journalist.Right now he is a Pretend journalist.

Mike is very open-minded and brings something good to the show. I’ll be back to my normal agenda after the CES. This week there was no news, nothing big to talk about and I had no agenda. You should have canceled the warzone this week i think the warzones during christmas and new years simply because of the lack of news during the time frame and i know in my case not sure about those of the crew but im usually hangin with family/friends.
Now on to the warzone:
1) I guess brainbrasher hasn’t jumped on little big planet before. Little big planet is still rocking till this day. There’s constant creation and are alot of unique content out there. To hold the 3 million + copies of the game sold and say randomly that 10% of the users create levels is kind of asinine. Brain should have looked at the big picture which is of course your gonna have people who may just like to create and you’ll have people who just like to play others levels the underlining factor is that still to this day there are lots of people who still are creating levels in LBP and playing those levels and giving gamers a different depth of user created content. I believe the same depth and long lasting impression will be left with Modnation racers.
2) LMFAO!!! What you know about studio 54 Tor!

4) In NY i’ve seen plenty of Bayonetta commercials so i think the game will be just fine. Been hearing great things from other local gamers as well. You can’t trust what you read on the net all the time. Half these cats don’t buy what they say they will.
5) Tor Bionic Commando was ass, forget that they thought it was hard it was straight repetitive. A complete letdown….
6) Yeah if they want they could continue making “Halo” games BUT Bungie already expressed how their tired they are of the Halo series. They want to move on to other projects and if they were to continue creating other “Halo” games and not have their real hearts into it and their doing it soley to deepen their pockets the true value of that/those games might show….
