What this one of the first lessons you learned for journalism?
Please tell me you are not trying to explain 120hz is what is going to give us 120FPS. Please tell me that is not what you are trying to explain.
i dont think wii exclusive going to ps3/360 is gona hurt wii at all since they didnt sell well on it anyhow, wiis big sellers are all first party so they will be fine regardless, hell they sell more software than ps3/360 combined a month and all there games are cheaper to make, basically Nintendo is printing money and there locked in first this gen. if u can really get 120fps with any game that would be amazing i just dont see it happening tho. ff13 versus will be amazing if it uses the kh fighting engine it plays smooth, tho i never got into ff because of turn base fighting so im afraid that im gonna be lost with the series.
I didn’t watch the video yet so I’m commenting out of my ass but I don’t see how Sony is bringing 120fps to consoles. Now if u go by pc rulesnif u have a higher refresh rate on your monitor games will run at a higher fps. I remember doing this in old hl mod games. So maybe by using one of these 120/240hz tvs in a sense you could get a higher frame rate but I don’t seenhow this would work on consoles. And you would need one of these tvs to do it. Also the human eye can’t see more than 60 fps so they say but I could tell the diff in day of defeat between 60 and 85 but I was close on a pc CRT monitor,I don’t know if sitting 5-10 feet from your LCD or led tv you would be able to see the difference.as it stands on consoles bad fps is either because devs didn’t code good enough , or the console hardware .
Last note is I think 3d gaming is a joke and it won’t take off.
“I think 3d gaming is a joke and it won’t take off”
Somebody clearly hasn’t seen Avatar in 3D…
first thing i would like to say is congratz on 2 years
.
i think ff13 is being held back by the 360 the open world of gran pulse doesnt have any towns in it its just open plains. final fantasys in the past all had at least a chocobo ranch out there somewhere with at least a town or small encampment but there are no towns O_O
@sixampfuze if im not mistaken it would just be 2 60FPs renders while one is offset a little to project 3d that would be 60fps 3d though, but i could be wrong on that i will have to research it. they have some trouble running certain games at constant 60FPs now i think its hard to belive them rendering 2 of the exact same scene both at 60fps, mayby 30fps each but then the game is just running in 30fps 3D. if they would want constant 60FPS 3D the games would then have to be rendered at 600-650P at least. apart from a 2d game running at 60fps 3d i cant imagine a 3d game at constant 60FPs 3d on the hardware we have now.
What?
So a game that was announced first for the PS3 and developed first on the PS3 by an engine that was designed for all next gen consoles and u think ff13 is held back by the system that was announced after development started on the PS3 3 years prior?
Really?
i do think it was held back they had to hold it back when they began work on the 360 version.
the 360 version is the exact same as ps3 version its just on 3+ discs and has more loading times. i think they pulled the towns out to save space. the open part of the game reminds me of monster hunter.
They added 3 discs, why would they try and save space?
The game content is only 8gb.
There’s no way in the universe the game was held back at all. Unless you can show me documentation and concept art from SquaeEnix, I’m not falling for that held back BS.
ya your right on that i went back and looked at there released concept art and one image is of gran pulse and it is just a plain with no towns.
still a great game though none the less
i got to see the games in 3d in front of me to believe
,
i dont care for wii lol, most of the exclusives not made by nintendo are average.

Hiphopgamer, video games run at their native refresh rate on 120hz LCD’s. Only DVD/HD-DVD/Blu-ray and some tv are affected by the refresh rate. The Playstation and Xbox only output a max of 60hz. Stereoscopic 3D requires two fields so that would be two 60hz fields giving you a combined 120hz. 120hz does not equal 120 true fps. When the image is sent to the tv there’s motion interpolation and frames are added by the TV.
Here:
Some displays that run at 100Hz or more add additional technology to address blurring issues. Motion interpolation can cut the amount of blur while adding to the latency by inserting extra synthesized in-between frames. Some LCD TVs supplement the standard 50/60 Hz signal by interpolating an extra frame between every pair of frames in the signal so the display runs at 100 Hz or 120 Hz depending on which country you live in. The effect of this technology is most noticeable when watching material that was originally shot on 35mm film, in which case the typical film judder can be reduced, at the cost of introducing small visual artifacts. Film that is viewed with this kind of processing can have a smoother look, appearing more like it was shot on video, in contrast to the typical look of film. [11]

The PS3 can’t even sustain 60fps on 100% of their games and you are telling the public that with a firmware update and a new cable they will be able to sustain 120fps.
sorry tor but wiki’s aren’t a reliable source. i can sign up and change all that crap you posted. FAIL.
no they are not reliable sources but you can always check the sources they have there if you go to the hdtv blur wiki you can click the 11 and it will take you to tors cnet link which explains exactly what he posted. and you can not change cnet
Check the second link. That’s why I posted it. I don’t rely on Wiki either but I always fact check wiki stories to make sure they are accurate.
i remember a certain someone saying that wiki is not a reliable source of info, and now they’re quoting from them.lol anyways, you are right though, a framerate of 120fps is certainly not required for a game to be displayed in 3D. i played the batman archam asylum at a paltry 35fps at a nvidia boot during the eurogamer expo, and i specifically asked the nvidia rep if the games needs to run at 120fps, and he laughed and said no way, the only thing required is a display with a 120hz refresh rate.
ANYWAYS, HEY HIPHOP, you’re on fire these days, GREAT SHOW today and keep it up, i see nothing but success for you man, and i’ll be cheering you along the way. your belt thing sure has it’s fans.
1 luv and God bless.
edit: i wouldn’t be me if i didn’t list the bad.
firstly, fear 2 was nowhere as good as the first game, from a pc stand point. i guess the console versions saw the huge upgrade you speak of. to me fear2 was a huge downgrade to fear1. oh, and the AI in killzone2 was better.
hmmm, i think that’s all i have to complain about.lol
i like how personal you made this episode, it’s nice when you do that in the episodes.
Thank you Tor, I was about research on it, but you beat me to it LOL. No games never made it to 1080p and 120hz for the PS3 and XBox360. HHG needs to stop bring BS information from a gaming journalist and making everybody look bad. In my opinion, he not tech smart at all. Take care my friend and Happy New Year and your son!!
1. ok Biglegend yes there has been games that made it to 1080p, wipeout HD, Gran Turismo,Virtua tennis nba 09, mlb the show i mean what the hell those are 1080p games right there.
2. the whole EDTV situation that people still try to clown me about I had the counterpoint crew come to my house and I showed them that my EDTV in my living room can display 1280×720 and when they saw the game running it didn’t look like a 480p title at all it looked like a Hi-Definition game running in 720p and gears 2 is what i showed off and it looked great. so anyone that has played a 480p game then played that same game in 720 you will see a major difference correct. well on my EDTV not my HDTV you see that the games look excellent
3. I never said that 120hz games has been done what i said is that with a update and this was after speaking with a few devs they said that’s it’s possible for some games to run at 120hz via the new hdmi 1.4 now to my knowledge sony doesn’t support hdmi 1.4 but via software update supposedly the ps3 can handle it and this is what ken kutargi was most likely talking about in terms of that type of gaming being possible on ps3.
at the end of the day all this shit about teaching HHG this, and Tor should stop allowing me to post articles, get off torrence nutsack. if you wanna help me or something make a suggestion but if you gonna try to play me like i’m stupid then show me your journalism skills and let’s get it poppin
So because Counterpoint saw it that means you are correct? You still have not bothered to actually read any of the facts that I linked and is as easy as googling for you to even understand what you are seeing. You still ignore the fact that the EDTV is NATIVE….let me repeat NAAAAATIIIIVVVVEEEE 480p resolution. You cannot change it from its NATIVE resolution. No one said they can’t look good. The point is you keep claiming your EDTV is HDTV capable.
After 2 years of doing this shit we would have thought by now you wouldn’t have to respond to post about your FACT checking and research to properly do an article so that your information wouldn’t be scrutinize but you continue to fail at understanding this. I guess this is me “hating” right? Go on use throw that word around.
Ok but the title of your story says 120fps not 120hz. And you said 120fps in the vidicle too.
^
this was a pretty good episodes. i stopped watching the show months ago but this episode was pretty damn good
yo while speaking of 3d everyone should go see AVATAR the movie…. honestly one of the best movie experiences in a theater I have ever had…. try to sit within the first half of the theater so that the 3d shit seems like its right on top of you… i sat within the last row of the front section of the theater so all I could see was the screen and thats it…. and it was amazing felt like I was in the movie and couldn’t see anything else around me just the movie….. its so weird when I try to think back on parts of the movie you almost feel like you were there…
Its not all 3d but when its not 3d it looks like HD and is super sharp… lol just wow… started to make me wonder what Lord of the Rings would have looked like filmed like this with stuff flyn everywhere etc… would have been awesome… this is truly a cinematic experience that should not be missed and do not wait for bluray/dvd would never be the same.
Avatar was my first Imax 3D movie experience and not only was the 3D sick but the movie itself was off the chain.
I went to see it lastnight in 3d, the 3d stuff was cool but the movie was ok.
yup sat right up front. thought it would be for the worst but it felt like i was in the movie.
Ah great. There’s HHG spreading ignorance and misleading people again. Tor why the hell do you allow BS on your site? You are always promoting this site to help educate the gaming community yet you are constantly either correcting or pulling HHG vidicle’s. Why do you allow it to be posted on your site if you are just going to change the title, or post a correction to HHG’s claims or ignorant blinded fanboy remarks and claims? Tor the only way you are going to help HHG get his shit right is by not posting his shit on your site unless he has all his facts or claims right. This will cause him (hopefully) to actually think about what he is saying or posting and will allow him to mature as a gaming journalist.
I´d like a responce to this aswell.
Funny because Tor said somthing about this about fanboys on the last Warzone and I am thinking to myself that you deal with it each week with someone who thought Sony offering an hour of gaming on a full version would destroy the competition not realizing that MS has already done this with Fable. Oh how about the EDTV denial. Like Man_of_The_Year how do you make an article without fact checking your information.
I saw avatar the movie in 3d and loved it but I think the 3d effect is a gimmick just like
motion controls and the power glove and the fucking nintendo track mat shit.
Whats up guys,
Jay Michaels from Counterpoint. When Dan and I were at HHG’s house he showed us Gears of War 2 running at 480p and 720p. We explained to HipHop that his TV runs 480p natively however it would except a 720p signal. The reason we know this is because if it didn’t then when he selected 720p from his xbox it wouldn’t have displayed an image and would’ve had only a black screen. Having said that we also explained to HipHop that it looks like the TV is upscaling the image and therefore not displaying the image as it was ment to be seen. I personally could not tell a diffrenece between the two. Dan thought that the image looked better in 480p and HipHop thought the image looked better in 720p. The differences that I did notice while the image was in 720 were: the text was smaller at the higher resolution, there was some screen tearing, and the image filled out the screen more. I’ll try to get Dan on here to explain further.
Simple answer he is getting a clean signal that is downconverting into his EDTV from 720p to fit 480p. The same thing happens to an analog display when you used Directv sat with svideo that provided a better signal than what the analog tv could support compared to basic cable with coaxial.
I gave HHG the more technical answer explaining the simple answer above months ago.
The subject title is misleading. I had a conversation about this in 2008 when GT5P was being promoted as running at 240fps on a Sony display. It’s a good marketing exercise for the display but that’s really all… See this article >>> http://kotaku.com/5093592/gran-turismo-5-prologue-running-at-240-fps–3840×2160-resolution
