For many years since Xbox360 arrived the DVD format along without the universal HDD in every system was always in question in terms of the systems longevity and increase in game quality year over year. The first was a given and Xbox360 was off to an amazing start, then with the blockbuster hit Gears Of War the system managed to wow the gaming community even after the rival PS3 console was released.
Currently in the fourth year the wow factor of the Xbox360 in terms of forward movement with their exclusive titles hasn’t been as strong and that’s something that can hurt them in the long run especially when Sony has proved they have the upper hand with the power of the PS3. 2009 may very well have been a time for Xbox360 to restructure because 2010 seems to be turning out to be the exact opposite in terms of game quality, and the answer is the X-Engine.

Why are you the only one who seems to think the 360 is actually struggling? You seem to miss the fact that they have from the beginning focused more on 3rd party support and ignore the fact that they never once said their focus this gen has been exclusives. For someone that has all the systems how do you spend this much time trying to comepare the systems if you are about the games? Contradicting! Sony had a great month that means it is doom again for the 360 based on exclusives but ignore what the fiscal report along with what 360 did on NPD last month.
First we got a video about Sony can’t do any more this generation they are done. The following week flip flop back to Sony is now going to take this generation. You look at your past videos and you go back and forth. Now X-engine is needed or a MUST HAVE to match the PS3 exclusives. That is your opinion but for someone who barely has touched their own 360 I don’t see why your concern is about what exclusives the 360 has. What happen to simply talking about the games vs the constant comparisions or them simply being talked about without comparision to another game? What is the point of gamer in the name HIPHOPGAMER? You seem to ignore that most the people that come to the Bitbag don’t need you to tell us veteran gamers what we need to be concerned about. I hate to break it to you but most of us actually just play the games across all the systems. Guess what, about to buy a new game on that dying platform called a PC.

Personally I don’t think this “x engine” is goig to make a difference. Devs should be writing their own engines dedicated to their game. The ps3 exclusive have better visuals than xbox exclusives but visuals doesn’t mean the xbox gAms lack “quality”. I agree with oog that HHG you are the biggest flip flopper here. One week ps3 is dead, the xbox then xbox. Then ps3 rules then xbox . I don’t understand it. Sony had a great sept and a great oct and that was expected because of the price drop but 2 months does trepresent the past 5 years of software and hardware sales. Growth and short comings.
We all know the ps3 is more powerful but other than Sony noone is taking advantage of that power so Sony can pop out it’s 2-3 exclusives with uber graphics every 2-3 years and the xbox will pop out their exclusives as they do.
I don’t buy gamesfor graphics and I didn’t buy my ps3 for graphics I bought it because I Syed uncharted 1 and loved it and wanted uncharted 2. I will say this…. not much a fan of the article because it just doesn’t have enough detail yet…. But if devs can learn from this so called x engine and learn how to untap some more of the systems potential then i’m all for it. I’m not all about graphics but it would be nice to know that the devs have extra horse power they never got to use before….. and could make for some added effects etc in environments etc etc…. but for now its all speculation… will be interesting to see what Halo Reach might be bringing to the table….

first off graphics dont equal better games. i agree that ps3 is separating itself graphically from 360 now but 360s upcoming games are still top notch and graphics are still amazing. my favorite game of all time is Warcraft3 for many reasons and i wouldnt trade it for any ps3/360 its graphics are outdated and so is its engine but the gameplay is what makes a game.

I just recently purchased a PS3. I purchased Uncharted 2 great looking game hands down one of the best looking I have seen. They set the game up to play like a movie. BUT looks aside….do you know what 2 games have stoppped me from playin or turning on my PS3 in over a week??
Borderlands…and Forza 3!! I am having MORE fun with those 2 games. It is my opinion so I cant speak for others. But HHG you get soooo caught up in the GFX that I think it blinds you from what gaming is all about…FUN!!!

Its because of the FUN FACTOR!!! Halo was NEVER NEVER about having TOP NOTCH visuals. THe seemed to focused more on making the game play smooth. The MP action on point etc etc….
We will see what Halo Reach will be but I have a feeling that its not gonna be a GFX juggernaut. I feel they will focus on making deep GAMING experience.
When I say gaming experience…take Forza 3 as an example. Outside of the actually driving,,,that is a deep game. THey packed alot of features in the game tha all work! And the game experience …. is hell of alot of FUN!!

Halo 3 was a graphics beast, people just don’t see it. If you want an example of this, play the Snowbound level by yourself and just take a look around. Probably the best lighting you’ll see in any FPS.

I do agree with you on that point tor…. Halos lighting is one of the best in a game…. one of the true game in which the sun acts like a sun and when you open a door to the outside it is actually blinding at first.

Developers have been producing XBox 360 games on PC’s with 2GB+ RAM since the console was first released, the only advantage of getting a “1GB” X360 dev kit is to help with running debug tools & optimising memory use for the final hardware. That “extra” 512MB doesn’t come on the X360 (as in chip), it’s a plug-in side-board that’s only useful to dev kits.
Getting some extra RAM back is nice & it’ll allow for a bit more texture variety, it’ll improve engines that stream textures & reduce pop-in. It’ll allow for slightly more complex games, but of course Natal integration & NXE updates help fill this new void as well.
Don’t expect anything game changing from Microsoft besides Natal. That’s where Microsoft’s focus is for 2010. Graphically – in terms of performance, games won’t be much better at all. Everyone’s game output buffer still needs to fit in eDRAM – or your game will have to tile to RAM (games are already doing this – often at the expense of 60fps -> 30fps and the added introduction of tearing).
There’s no escaping the X360’s hardware limitations and despite Torrence’s insistence, Blu-ray plays a large part in games like Uncharted 2 & KillZone 2’s success. Just 1 level on KillZone 2 takes up around 2.5GB. The X360 could go multi-disc + install for games, but the majority of X360 owners (many millions) are sitting on a 20GB / no HDD. There’s simply no ideal solution for Microsoft at this stage in the X360’s lifecycle.
Final point… You’ve seen and will continue to see publishers release a fair share of mediocre games (on all systems), whether great tools exist or not – it doesn’t mean they’ll be used! It’s fair to say Sega Rally 2 could’ve been better on Dreamcast if it was written using Katana instead of Windows CE!!! Doh!

I don’t care about killzones graphics or any other games graphics. If xbox games stay on the level of RE5, bad company 2, lost planet 2 and masseffect 2 then my graphical orgasm is fine. Uncharted 2 was very pretty but that’s only 10% of the game to me. When I was run and gunning or in the graphics were non existent.
Next year MS will have its stable of very good looking but more than anything “fun” exclusives that will entertain and keep 360 owners happy. From what I am seeing though, MS is looking to push the hardware much more next year and so are third parties. Dante’s Inferno, Bad Company 2 and Final Fantasy XIII from a third party perspective all look to push the hardware. From the first party stable, Splinter Cell, Alan Wake and something tells me that Halo REACH will really push the Xbox. Good stuff all around.

1. Your title is flawed. You say “Xbox 360 cant match PS3 exclusives”. I know you are talking about graphics, but graphics dont equal a better game. Your title makes it sound like PS3 games >>> 360 games overall. Which just isnt the case. They both have great libraries.
2. Battlefield Bad Company 2, Alan Wake, Splinter Cell: Conviction, RAGE, Brink, etc are all coming out on the Xbox 360 and all of them look VERY VERY good. Hell most could make a argument that BFBC2 looks nearly as good as Killzone 2. Alan Wake and Splinter Cell are right up there with Uncharted graphically.
Does the PS3 maybe have a slight edge? Sure, why not but overall the 360 is still pumping out great looking games.
3. When the new Crytek game for consoles comes out I bet it looks just as good as Killzone 2, so what will you be saying then? “360 Games Can Look Just as Good as Ps3 Exclusives?”. Don’t discredit the 360’s power until you see what Crytek can pull out of it.

Wow where to begin. First off Ill say the xbox 360 has great games. That is a fact. However you 360 loyalist are the MASTERS of spinning things. I remember at the start of this gen you guys kept saying 360 games look better graphically. Now those same people that boasted to no end now say stuff like graphics dont matter to me. Oh really graphics dont matter to you. Then you would be fine with game developers who produced ps2 graphics in 2009 and beyond? Doesnt make sense. Graphics are a huge selling point and you guys need to stop denying it. Graphics alone can sell a game. Killzone 2 and Uncharted 2 are evidence of this. For me if a game doesnt look good it turns me off. With the hardware that PS3/360 have we need to stop accepting piss poor sub-hd graphics (HALO3 ehhh).
Name me one game that has sold well with bad graphics. Imo its graphics/gameplay 60/40.
If MS wants to have better graphical quality game they need their devs to produce their own engine. However, this will never happen because unlike Sony, MS seems to pressure their exclusive devs to pump out titles way to often. Creating new engines take along time and that is why games like gran turismo 5 are still in development.

Dead space is a perfect example of good graphics and great gameplay. Halo had good graphics . Just becase the box didnt say 720 or 1080 doesn’t make te graphics bad. Halo having killzone graphics would not of made the game any better. Killzone took 5 years and the graphics are nice ( lil over rated IMHO ) but I’m half way through the game and Ive only enjoyed the bridge scene the rest of the
