my dear friend hiphop. sky is to the UK as direct tv is to the US, they’re both satellite television providers. play tv for the ps3 works as a PVR for local digital television channels only. as far as i’ve gathered the main attraction for the sky sevice coming to the 360 is that some areas in the UK(blocks of flats/appartments especially) don’t allow the dishes to be installed, therefore since the 360 will be getting the channels over the internet, there will be no need for a sky dish, it will be something like the BBC i-player, but not free. IMO both the sky and play tv services suck, and are certainly not major selling points for the consoles, but then again i’m a sky+ subscriber, i have a sky+ box that works as an excellent dedicated pvr box.

the real question UK 360 owners should be asking themselves, is if they’re willing to leave their 360s on for so long? lol

Microsoft On Shaky Ground While Sony Is On The Rise…that is true, BUT history repeats itself. Halo Reach will the first TRUE ground breaking AAA title of this generation. 2010 is the year gaming on the xbox will be the ultimate multiplayer experience. So enjoy the following games while you still can. MW2, Killzone 2, U2, and..well not Bad Company 2 cause that game will be played till my 360 decides it wants to scratch it. Keep your eyes open for Halo Reach!!!!

Edit: by history repeats itself i was referring to what halo 1 did for the origanl xbox

    • flip-it3 says:

LOL “first TRUE ground breaking AAA title of this generation”. It will sell an ass tonne and be a fun game but Halo was never really know for its story but mainly its presentation. In all the Halo games a scene could feel epic but you don’t really get immersed into the world since the story is so loosely told. Metal Gear Solid 4 was the first TRUE ground break AAA title, it was the first game this gen to get 10/10 around the board. Innovation, presentation and story telling is what made MGS4 amazing just like Zelda Ocarina of Time in the N64 days. Halo Reach could very well be an amazing game which sells a shit load but it’s not the first ground breaking AAA title this gen.

Noob get L4D2! I’ll be picking it up.

  • SourceHeroic says:

odst if history repeats itself sony will come out at number 1 again lol im just kidding i had to say that ;P.

halo reach cant be hyped yet lol, sure its halo but where are the details about it , its only been speculated to be a squad/class based game like battlefield 2, it hasnt even been stated if its behind the back third person (like gears), first person(halo etc), or furter away third peroson (there were a few games int he past that had a camer way back like metal gear solid 3 snake eater) we dont even know if the game has a single player or if its only online lol. we will have to wait and see for the beta to come out for odst.

    • ODST says:

For many Halo Reach looks like another Halo game. But for me years ago when i was a mega nerd i read the book Halo Reach. and i wont let out any spoilers but this game will have about 40 diff spartans fighting on the Reach..many of which die in intense combat. Do you remember those Halo live action videos? the intensity of the battles will definitly be on that scale if you read the books the combat is brutal, and bungie will match it since the guy that writes the books also works in bungie studios. anywhos dont let my screen name make u think ima fanboy i like the ps3 also uncharted 2 is dope its even fun watching someone else play which is rare in a video game today

      • SourceHeroic says:

if thats how its gonna be i cant wait and see :) , and i was not refering to you as fanboy because of your name for all i knew it could have been acronym for something else lol.

  • MattOG711 says:

No, Microsoft is doing just fine. Also, why do people continue to discuss the “Console War”? We are 3-4 years into this generation yet we continue to talk about the hardware more than the software. Hardware should only be discussed early on in a generation, and now it is time to focus on the games themselves. Does your PS3 become a better console if Microsoft does bad in ‘09? No, so it doesnt matter who wins year by year, and as long as both companies make a decent profit it doesnt matter who wins.

Now when it comes to Microsoft they have Halo:Reach, Splinter Cell: Conviction, Alan Wake, and Mass Effect 2 coming out exclusively on their console next year. They also have major multi-plat games like Final Fantasy XIII, Battlefield Bad Company 2, Lost Planet 2, Dead Rising 2, Dark Void, Dante’s Inferno, etc coming out next year. They are introducing Sky TV to Europe it will never come to the US. Last.fm, Twitter, and Facebook are just some new features being added to Xbox Live which is a already a great service. On top of all this you are getting Natal which will be a interesting expierence and a good risk for Microsoft. At this point you cant say which controller will be better than the other because it all depends on Microsoft. You also have the unannounced games or the games with a not specific release date like Fable 3, The New Mistwalker Project, a new RARE game, etc.

Those are all reasons why to be excited about the future of the 360, and I didnt once compare Microsoft to Sony in all of it. As long as Microsoft is making money from their gaming division and pumping out good content then it shouldnt matter what the competitiors are doing. Maybe Sony is the better console, but it doesnt matter because if you want to play those exclusives then you need a 360. Considering where the original Xbox came last gen, this generation is a major success for Microsoft. Microsoft is far from being on shaky ground

  • MikeT says:

I rarely comment here, but I felt compelled to. Sony is finally this generation taking its competition in the marketplace seriously, which is a win for anyone that has purchased a PS3 and a win for prospective new PS3 owners. By the same token, don’t cou nt Microsoft out of the picture just yet. Everyone here is talking about Sony’s storied history in the console market but are forgetting Microsoft’s ambition to achieve dominance in pretty much all of their endeavour’s. Microsoft is clearly watching Sony, and no doubt Sony has a keen eye on Microsoft, at least if they’ve finally gotten over their pretentious attitude which has been their calling card this generation.

Microsoft is without a doubt working on new “shared” experiences for gamers. Unlike Sony, Microsoft is very much a software centric company which has helped them create experiences OS wise that Sony has all but been trying to play catch up with. Sony has tried to implement a lot of the same features but at least in my opinion have always turned out half-baked. It always seems to be one step forwards and two steps back. Sony for all their brilliance seem to always make some last minute move which boggles the mind, simply because of how absurd it is.

But I’ll walk away from that one as that’s not the point of my comment/rebuttal. My point is this. Do not count Microsoft out. Microsoft as always has played their cards close to the chest. None of us knew that Netflix, party chat, or even the avatar system would be the successes they are. Microsoft is slowly building on these experience’s, but what sets these features apart from the PS3 is their “shared” experience. Live’s backbone has always been community centered, about sharing gaming and now movie experiences with friends and family. Now some gamers will surely read this and go, “What about the games and the insane graphics?!!”.

Microsoft has on the horizon Alan Wake, Crackdown 2, Halo: Reach and Fable 3. These are just the games that we know about and I use that term “know” loosely. From what we’ve seen of Alan Wake, I believe it can stand toe to toe to any of Sony’s first party titles – Yes, even Uncharted 2. But again graphical prowess is only half of the game… no pun intended and based only on an individuals opinion. Game A may look better to me than game B to you. Again no answer is clearly 100% correct because it’s all based on personal opinion. Regardless, odds are that the 360’s upcoming titles will prove to be beautiful games and if what I’m hearing about Halo: Reach rings true, than Bungie will finally redeem themselves for the inadequacies of Halo 3.

Games like Fable III have hinted at some pretty innovative strides with the inclusion of Microsoft’s Natal motion sensing device. How this will all pan out is anyone’s guess, but Microsoft is as always trying to innovate as it did with Live. So the games are coming, the community features will continue to be built upon and Microsoft will continue to hold it’s own in the console space. Will it win this generation against the PS3? It’s too early to tell but don’t count out Microsoft’s ability to build hype and deliver sales for it’s properties, something that Sony still seems to be lacking, which is disheartening considering the incredible quality of games like Killzone 2 and Heavenly Sword. More than anything Microsoft has Natal, which as we all have seen this generation, Microsoft will market to kingdom come and build an incredible media hype for.

Congrats to Sony for stepping it it’s game and finally acting a bit like the Sony of yesteryear but don’t count Microsoft out just yet.

    • Corepred4 says:

I pretty much agreed with everything you said until the part where you think Alan Wake can go toe to toe with Uncharted 2. Thats just stupid. Maybe like a year or two ago when A.Wake was the sandbox game. The graphics were awesome and the story had be curious. But now they took the sandbox element out (what happened to “you’ll be able to go into any building!” and I’ve seen some gameplay and the graphics look less than impressive. If your gonna compare a fantastic game like UC2 at least do it with something thats at least on par, like Splinter Cell.

I think it was a good vidicle Hiphop keep up the good work and as for the 360 owners worried bout blowing up thier xbox’s for leaving it on too long u shouldnt worry well atleast i dont i have bought many 360s and refurbished them and left em on for 6+ hours and nothing has gone wrong shit i watch netflix like crazy i have even fell asleep and left it on all night long nothing happened u guys and your folklore and myths on the xbox and yes i own a playstation too love it and will be watching netflix on there too when it comes good job again Hiphop keep up your work

  • Charleytony says:

Yo HipHop, everytime you post a video or talk on the war zone, all I hear if Sony is kicking Microsoft’s ass.

This video should be named (IMO): Sony working extra hard to close the gap between its PS3 and Microsoft’s Xbox 360.

When are you gonna stop using so much hyperboles. If you are gonna exagerate all the time, who is gonna listen to you later ? This ain’t WWE !!!

I got both consoles, when I look at multiplatform games, they are equal. I might end up buying ‘em on the Xbox 360 for personal reasons (online play, friends list, controller preference) but the games end up pretty much the same.

And for the exclusives, no system blows the other away, they both have quality titles. Anyone who has both machines and isn’t completely brainwashed knows that they both have incredible games.

When a great PS3 exclusive comes out, you buy it.
When a great Xbox 360 comes out, you buy it.

When you talk, all I hear is Ps3 is so amazing, you might as well throw your 360 in the trash…

Except when they are strapped for cash, true (hardcore, real whatever you call ‘em) gamers have 2 or 3 home consoles in their house, 1 or 2 portable gaming machines and high speed internet.
You gotta stop talking about systems, we own ‘em, you don’t need to validate what we bought, talk about games. I don’t care what machine the game plays on.

    Get real man,
    the console war is over…
    The winners are the gamers…
and the only losers are our wallets…

or you could change you name to HipHopConsumerElectronicsBuyerAdvisor…

    No disrespect, just love…

    • Los says:

well said Charleytony, HHG has all the systems and still seems to try to put Sony in a pedestal. But HHG if you read this im being dead ass when i say this, you sound like a odee PS3 fanboy. You call Major NElson the biggest fanboy but hes getting paper for this, you ain’t getting shit from Sony. You can tell ur on Sony’s meat when you have to compare a fucking service that is not even a available to anyone but the UK.
I bet Torrence is pulling out the hair that hes got left trying to understand what kind of point your trying to make.

    • Atticus says:

I agree with Charleytony, Los, and MattOG711. The only thing on shaky ground is this video. The console war crap is getting REAL old. Sony is not the most desired system, anyway. It’s still the Wii.

I dunno if Project Natal will be anything special, but the EyeToy was a piece of crap.

I’ve never had lag on Xbox 360. You need to take that up with your internet provider.

One of the main reasons people play Call of Duty on the Xbox is because they have an extensive friends list on that system. Those individuals are not going to buy a PS3 because they can now use the Xbox controller on a PS3 and PSN is free. What’s the point of that?

Blu-Ray is for suckers. Most people don’t even have televisions that can take advantage of Blu-Ray. Streaming is around the corner. The Netflix service on the 360 has never lagged on me, and most people should not have a problem unless they live in the boonies or they are using a low-speed internet service. Lastly, who wants to repurchase all of their old DVDs?

BTW, are you not from New York? Why are you discussing issues that do not affect yourself or other American users? No offense, but I don’t think UK gamers are looking for info on Sky TV from an American. Seems like there are other people (UK bloggers) better suited for covering those issues.

  • LawKassab says:

    God dam! ! !
This is why I love this site , it has mostly intellectual comments and rebuttals . Weather you comment on PS3 or the 360 it’s all very well written with educated and clearly thought out words not just the mumbojumbo I read on N4G. Thank You so much Torrence for making this website for the true gamer

  • As always, I will address this vidicle on the Video Game Warzone. I just don’t understand the reasoning behind creating this video. What are you trying to say? Should I sell my Xbox and just play on my PS3? What are you trying to tell us? You sound more like a Sony marketing rep than a journalist in this vidicle. What are you telling us that we don’t already know?

Uncharted 2 is dope, but the first game to do this type of cinematic presentation was Heavenly Sword. Heavenly Sword did it better than MGS4. Are we to NOW praise the Playstation 3 because of Uncharted 2 when there have been great games on the system from the get go? And when YOU speak of quality, you are only talking graphics. Nothing else. You never compare sound, story or narrative to Xbox games, only graphics. U2 takes the cake in graphics, it’s clear, but that doesn’t mean that there aren’t other great games on Xbox, PS3 and Wii. This is why I went nuts when someone dropped the Uncharted card on the Warzone several shows back. It’s like people can’t praise other games that have done great things. And then I get called a fanboy or an idiot when I say Red Faction deserves a best graphics award or Heavenly Sword was the best PS3 game.

    • MikeT says:

I agree with everything Torrence just laid down. It’s not just about graphics and no disrespect but HHG you sound like a pitchman for Sony. It’s not about what system you play on, it’s about the game. And graphics alone do not make a great game. Also Torrence I agree that Heavenly Sword is one of the best PS3 games, sadly it doesn’t get the credit due. Folklore was also pretty great.

I just finished playing Uncharted 1 and am getting ready to dive into part 2 and from what I hear part 2 will also be a great game. At this point, I’m sick and tired of this console war bullshit. Back in the day when I owned a Genesis and my best friend owned SNES we were’t playing dick sizing games to see which system or games were better. We simply played the games and enjoyed them. Him at my house or vice versa. I want to also bring up Weapon X’s take of different gamers have different things they want from a system which is why we have choice. It seems to me at times you (HHG) , perhaps not mindfully basically crap all over any gamer that chose to purchase a 360 vs a PS3. Not everyone wants or needs to own a PS3 or all of the consoles this generation. Even more so with how the whole financial situation currently in this country is. Just wanted to add another comment on here.

  • Weapon X says:

……I don’t really know what to make of this vidicle. I’m like Torrance with this one. I like HipHop but I just have to question what was the point of this vidicle. I don’t think anything is going to happen when both consoles have the same features. Every company has a different business model that they follow. I love all three consoles and there are great quality games on each. Yes, Uncharted 2 looks and plays really good but I don’t think its enough to warrant someone buying the PS3 over yet if Sony keeps pushing this title then it could turn out to be a system seller. The thing is people look for different things in a console. People want options. I’m glad that we live in a generation where gamers have the choice of what console they want and if they just have that one console what ever it may be then at the end of the day that’s all that matters. Keep doing your thing HipHop. See you and all of the fans on the warzone.

  • hiphopgamer says:

Aight ya’ll was good check this out.

Microsoft on shaky ground doesn’t mean that they are not doing good dog what it means is that the position they was in before isnt’ as strong now here’s the main example dog before the warzone pops off tomorrow

Let’s say your in a 12 round boxing match right and the first 3 rounds may weather is whipping ass then after that his punches aren’t connecting as much, he’s getting hit more, his opponent is delivering more quality skill than he is there for mayweather isn’t looking as sharp like how he was in the first round and shit.

So the fight is about to end and mayweather is still up on the score boards but he’s looking like he’s about to be knocked out but before he goes down he’s saved by the bell and still manages to win the fight by decision (Numbers)

Microsoft in their 1st year had the market to themselves

Microsoft 2nd year they capitalized with great new features and of course gears of war along with better third party iterations of games,

Microsoft 3rd year Halo came out and even more features was added, and rpg’s were the norm for the 360.

Microsoft 4th year very lackluster in terms of exclusive game quality and the competition started firing back with, better games, no more bad ports, great advertsing, lower price, starting to sell more, psn upgrades (More still needed ) and that right there is the reason behind the article.

WHAT HAPPENED TO THAT POWERFUL MOMENTUM MICROSOFT HAD IN PREVIOUS YEARS. IT’S NOT A DISS TO MICROSOFT IT’S JUST A CURIOUS QUESTION THAT I POINTED OUT AND MADE A ARTICLE OUT OF.

See ya’ll on the warzone and shit peace

    • “Microsoft 4th year very lackluster in terms of exclusive game quality and the competition started firing back with, better games, no more bad ports, great advertsing, lower price, starting to sell more, psn upgrades (More still needed ) and that right there is the reason behind the article.”

But we all know this! What are you telling us that we don’t already know? Microsoft had about 3 or 4 less exclusives than Sony this year. You know what though? Most of the people buying the systems do not care about who has more exclusives. GAMERS really don’t care about Blu-ray movie playback that much. Transformers 2 Blu-ray is $27 at BJ’s. I’m not paying $27 for that movie. I’ll wait until next year. Gamegeddon is getting all my money.

What I’ve seen is that single console owners don’t really care that much about what exclusives exist on other systems. Most fanboys will tell you that Xbox only has Halo 3 and Gears and that PS3 only has MGS4 and Uncharted. There are sooo many god damn good games available on each console, exclusive and multiplat, that I refuse to even drop the exclusive bullshit that we keep bringing up. It’s always, “But the Playstation has better exclusives”. Who cares? I paid more money this year on Multiplats than I did for exclusives. I just bought Tekken 6 on PS3 because the controller feels right at home.

But I guess people like console war stuff so…it’s good for business. :)

      • MikeT says:

SixAmpFuze your post cracked me up man lol. I agree with Torrence again (not surprising haha) We all know that MS has had a slow year, that’s basically a no brainer. They seems to have stacked everything for next year, and as a one console only owner which is 360, I don’t feel the sudden urge to drop 300 dollars to get a PS3, Blu-ray for me is a non-factor. Simply because the price for BR movies are too high. So how do I play PS3 exclusives? I go over to a friends house who owns one and play it there or borrow his PS3. He recently got a 360 for cheap and I’m letting him borrow some of my games. Everybody wins!

As Torrence said, if anything multiplatform games this year and continuing onto the next year are insane. I recently picked up Borderlands and Brutal Legend, two great games and next week is Dragon Age: Origins, followed by MW2 (if that’s your thing, I’m sticking with Bad Company 2 personally) and next year starts with a bang with Darksiders. It’s not going to let up either. We have Bayonetta, Dark Void, Dante’s Inferno, BioShock 2, Bad Company 2 and that’s just in the first 3 months of next year!!! 2010 promises an onslaught of third party games, and that is not even throwing in the exclusives like Mass Effect 2, Alan Wake ect for the 360 and God of War III, Heavy Rain, MAG and so forth for the PS3. Owners of BOTH consoles are going to be VERY happy next year. But like Torrence said, “I guess people like console war stuff so…it’s good for business.” lol

Seriously though HHG, the whole Sony chest thumping and console waring over all – is getting to be old hat. Even more so, when your clear bias or preference for one company seems to get in the way of what I believe is some pretty entertaining and passionate news coverage on the video game industry. At the end of the day honestly unless you own stock in either company who really gives a damn who’s electronic box is selling better. What makes business is the games and the consumers who love them, regardless of where they play them.

  • mboojigga says:

I can tell you now not one owner of a 360 is going to switch over to a PS3 just to get Netflix. The majority of 360 owners didn’t get a 360 for Netflix. As a dual owner of both consoles I simply have the option to use both systems for the service. This benefits Netflix overall in compared to someone like Blockbuster. The shit is getting old with which system is better.

    HHG,

This is why people question why you bother putting all the boxes of each system on your show because you might as well look into be the Major Nelson of Sony and actually get paid for this energy of boosting Sony every chance. Your only problem is not providing factual information to actually back up what you are even talking about. Why do you think we all are getting your videos wrong come in and explain them afterwards only to point out what we already know?

I think you need to make a vidicle with the headline… Sony just realized they own a gaming console.

I will have to say reading all the above comments is refreshing verses reading the crapola that is n4g.

The ppl who disagreed with HHGs vidicle wrote what they had to say with class and intelligence. Not just short words bashing him.

I myself would have to say that reading certain headlines you can tell WHO the article is gonna be from. I read this headline and instantly thought “HHG” lol.

I wouldnt say MS is on Shaky ground..I would say that Sony has gotten some momentum with the release of the slim, the price drop and U2 coming out.

I have had a 360 for a few years and had a few rrod and never complained because I got em fixed for free. I actually think its funny how everyone I know has had the rrod. But thats just my personal view on things. Now on the other hand if it wasnt getting fixed for free I would be pissed!!

THe momentum at this time for sony actually got me to pick up a slim a few weeks ago. I picked up Uncharted 2 and I am renting the back catalog of games like Killzone 2.

I have Demon Souls and Ratchet n Clank enroute (best Buy buy 2 get 1 free deal). But get this….I still picked up Forza 3 and Borderlands for my 360.

Gay Tony is on my must have list….not sure about MW2 unless I can find a sweet deal on it used…or I get bored with the games I have now.

So shaky ground….its HHGs opinion. I personally disagree. Its a great time to be a gamer…and to have a JOB to PAY for all these games!! LOL

Im glad its going into the winter time so I can actually have time to play the games.

  • Charleytony says:

Hip Hop Gamer that is wher you are wrong. You cant compare exclusives.

    Uncharted vs Gears
    Halo vs Killzone
    Forza vs Gran Turismo

How are you gonna compare them ? Sales ? Metacritic scores ? Give me a break man !

Does PS3 have MUST PLAY EXCLUSIVES ?
Does Xbox 360 have MUST PLAY EXCLUSIVES ?
in both cases the anwser is your favorite catch phrase: “OHHH MY GOD !!!!”

If you want to be real, tell us you prefer this game over that one, this system over that one. These machines arent religions, I dont have to choose one, I got both of em sitting under my big as HDTV. When I go to a website, podcast, game store, I dont check what they have for a specific system; I wanna know what are the coolest most bad ass games I can play on my TV.

Everywhere on the net everybody is going this is the “Best Game EVER !” every week. This crap gets old fast.
You play a game for 3 hours, have fun and suddenly declare it the best of all time ? Give me a break !
If I hear those words again from a PRO reviewer / PRO Blogger / Gaming Journalist, Im gonna stop listening to his crap. That’s it !

    Peace !

By the way the best game of all time is clearly Super Mario Bros 3 on the NES !
Havent you all seen the Wizard ?

    Just kidding !

  • commander says:

Great now this topic is gonna get brought up on the warzone and hiphop will just repeat everything that he said is the video and typed in the comments.

    Cant wait.

  • Drakol says:

What the fuck is this bullshit?! HHG, WTF?! God dammit! For once in your “journalistic” career, get your head out of your ass when it comes to comparing games and systems. As it was mentioned before, gamers will always be the winners in this “console war”. Which by the way, has been going on for how long now? 20 to 25 years now? Different companies having a big fucking piss contest, nothing more. No reason to hype up Sony, because they’ve been doing this since the PS1 era – or perhaps a bit earlier with that fallout with Nintendo and Panasonic.

And you’re using a fucking boxing match for comparison? Get the fuck out of here. Hand over your god damn man card and get the fuck out. I know damn well that you’re pro-Sony, no matter how you spin it to us. Seriously, the ONLY fucking thing that matter to Sony, Microsoft, Nintendo and any other publisher/developer, is if the project can bring in the money and food on their table. Yes, U2 is a fucking God-send when it comes to graphics, but there’s more to a game than that. There’s innovation, a story so well written that you can say 10 years from now what character you liked from whatever game. A game doesn’t need “realistic” graphics to be the best game ever, or even GOTY – which sadly isn’t the case.

Look, there’s no need to create these videos of how well these companies are doing or if Major Nelson stubbed his toe. No one cares, except for Nelson and his toe should it be stubbed, but what does matter are the games – and ONLY the games. I didn’t join The Bitbag to write fucking articles or read articles that dealt 95% of written text of how a 1st party developer is doing. I joined on to bring the news of what type of games are out there and to spread the word that there is so much more this generation of gaming. That’s why I created the Japan Gaming episodes and that’s why I’m still a part of the crew.

  • SixAmpFuze says:

I will say one thing hhg sure knows how to get people talking. He’s like a burnt rush limbaugh.

Is it me or does the word Shaky look shaky. It doesn’t look right to me, I dunno.

Sony had an impressive year and so did ms, both consoles released awesome game and the year of the ……. Was just the year of good gaming. Exclusives on both consoles in my honest opinion can’t be judged off of each oher. Killzone -halo who wins is all opionion based. I like halo but after a few weeks I tire from the multiplayer. Killzone looks good with the background stuff but overall visuals didntimpress meat alland the multiplayersucks in my opinion , also I’m not enjoying the single player at all. I actually stopped playing to play borederlands and uncharted2z

so right there how do u judge “quality”? Graphics alone? I ask because odst is an expansion and people love if. Visuals are basically the same And when u reviewed thy you dogged it basically the entire review but gave it an 8 so what determines quality.

Sony has done a great job these past 2 months but I don’t understand why they waited so long to get behind their leading electronic device.

When it comes Down to which companies are on shaky ground iwould say none but if u step back every companyis on shaky ground. They all are ctrying to figure out what they need to do to beat the competitor.

Nintendo just released the dsilite to give itmore features to take on the feature rich psp line and a few months later they announce a new dsill with bigger screens, sony has dropped their priced from 500/600 to 400/300 and has released 8976347 sku’s and the xbox in almost 5 years has dropped their prices from 400/300 to 300/200 and has many sku’s aswell with new features. In the end it’s all business.

To be honest I had a point I wanted to make but my iPhone was being homo and The time it took trying to get itto go into landscapemode to type I forgot what my point was and only remembered bits and pieces of what I wanted to say. :)

These articles are just flamebait to get hits and nothing else. Anyone could do it by posting ridiculous headlines on N4G.com….like this:

    “Is the PS3 bankrupting Sony?

Today, rival Sony announced it took a ¥63.2 billion ($696 million) net shortfall during the same period, following the $1.03 billion annual loss it reported in May–its first since 1995. Revenue for the April-September period was ¥3.261 trillion ($35.85 billion), down from ¥4.051 trillion ($44.54 billion) during the same period in 2008. The three-month period saw Sony’s Networked Product and Services Division, which includes Sony Computer Entertainment, generate ¥352.6 billion ($3.88 billion) in operating revenue for an operating loss of ¥ 58.8 billion ($646 million). The company now expects to lose ¥95 billion ($1.04 billion) during this fiscal year.”

See, it’s easy. Throw in some factual information with some selective editing and a wild speculation in the headline, and generate a ton of comments, which causes game developers to talk to you at events because they think you have a fanbase.

There are a ton of great games on the horizon for both systems, and the console war is still being discussed? EPIC FAIL.

I find it sad that the gaming journalisim industry has basically become the vocal leader in the console war.

Let’s talk about games and how much we love them, and the software. Why do we continue to compare the consoles years after they have been released? The people who come to video game sites already own a current gen console, so they dont need to hear about sales and why one console is supposed to be better than another.

What happens if next year Halo Reach, Splinter Cell Conviction, Alan Wake, Fable 3, etc all get 9.5+. If so, then this article is pointless.

you right on the money with this one hiphop. when sony dropped the price to 299, it was an upper cut to mirosoft’s chin. then they followed up with uncharted 2 (G.O.T.Y). now all the xbox supporters are shitting themself. the xbox is showing its age. until forza 3 xbox 360 been on 10 month drought. get a ps3 and “jump in”

HipHop, I disagree on so many levels.

    1. Gamers dont care about pay tv, b-ray, net tv, or any other tv.
    2. You’re always talking about what SONY is “gone” do, they aint “gone” do S***! When the PS3 has cross game chat, when they have online parties, let me know.
    3. The PS3 is enjoying console sales due largely to NEW HARDWAR, consumers re-buy products due to new hardware, existing PS3 owners upgraded or downgraded to a “Slim”
    4. Developers know they can make a “Linear as Hell” experience on the PS3. Uncharted 2 is Linear as Hell, & that’s why the game looks good, when SONY makes a co-op game in the main campaign, then & only then should you or SONY talk about the “power” of the PS3. Right now, they show me nothing.

    5. AND most important, How the hell can M$ be on “Shaky Ground” when Halo 3:ODST sells more in 1 day than Killzone 2 sold since its weak @ss launch?

***. You talk about the PS3 games coming, none of the games you mentioned is going to outsell Halo:Reach day 1 numbers, I wont go into the other games that will kill for 2010!

Also, keep doing articles like this, dont let Torrence ask you what motivated you to do this vidicle, keep it up, we’ve been debating consoles since the Atari & Odyssey. Most of us are true gamers, especially me, & its great to debate, keep it up!

    Nice thought provoking commentary, hiphopgamer.

What I get from this is you think while Microsoft used to be undisputed champion of the consoles, Sony has some new energy that’s going to even the playing field. On those points I generally agree. But I wouldn’t say Microsoft is on shaky ground. Really, it’s Sony that’s on shaky ground, and what they’re going to do about it. Sony needs to get the PS3 doing its thing before the XBox 3 comes out with more power and more features.

    GAMES
    —–
Other comments put it right. It’s all about the games. The PS3 needs first prize games that rock that plasma. PS3 owners are tired of getting worse performance on a machine that KZ2 proves is better. If all the good non-exclusive games are either not released on the PS3 (Left 4 Dead x), or second-rate ports that do not flex the PS3’s muscle, then things aren’t going to change. I’m sure new development tools are making it easier to work with the PS3’s hardware, and hopefully developers will want to make games that push the envelope, and not just dollars in their pockets. If enough great games come out on the PS3 in the next year or two, it could become the late-blooming go-to console.

    DLC

On another front, Sony has been bungling exclusives and DLC. Microsoft must be blowing huge amounts of money to get exclusive content, or delay DLC for the PS3. Sony has got to do something, because the PS3 seems like second best, when it should be equal. Maybe they can’t compete with the deep pockets of Microsoft, but it has to do something, or people will naturally gravitate to the 360.

    NETWORK
    ——-
The PS3 network may not be as good as the Microsoft network, but it’s free, and it’s being improved all the time. I’ve heard developers don’t like the weak online system of the PS3, and I can understand. It just makes development complicated. Each developer has to create their own system. Sony needs to invest in bringing their online system up to par with Microsoft, even if it’s free.

These are big challenges for the PS3, but I think Sony can do it. This past year showed the PS3 had hidden power. Now Sony just needs to keep the momentum.

    Suggestions for your videos.
    1. If it’s long, you gotta keep it tight.
    2. Stop looking to your right. Put that info behind the camera.
    3. Use titles to say what’s coming up, and what you’re talking about now.
    4. Edit out flubs and slow parts. Keep it moving.
