Sony has officially announced the 250gb PS3 which will be available this November for $349. If you are looking for a beefy alternative to the 120gb system, this one is it. Here’s the ink from Sony:

Following the successful launch of the slimmer and lighter PlayStation®3
(PS3™) system with 120GB hard disk drive (HDD), Sony Computer Entertainment
America today announced that a new PS3 system with a 250GB HDD will be available on
November 3 for $349.99 (MSRP). Launching in time for the holiday season, the 250GB
PS3 system provides consumers with plenty of storage capacity to download more
games, movies, and TV shows from PlayStation®Network, as well as to store their
personal media files, including music, photos, and videos.The 250GB PS3 system offers the same form factor and functionality as the current
120GB system, which achieved retail sales of 1 million units worldwide in the three
weeks since its launch on September 1. Both models will be available at retail this
holiday, providing both gamers and gift-givers with the opportunity to choose the

What’s going on here is this to pull some of the sales away from the “LIMITED” edition Modern Warefare 2 Xbox 360 bundle 250GB for 299.99? Or is SONY just raising it’s price again? This seems to be directly pointed at cock blocking the MW2-360 since they “just” lowered it’s price and just by adding a bigger HDD is not a reason to make a new sku since most gamers know how cheap and easy it is to upgrade the internal HDD on the PS3? If you didn’t get a PS3 yet or just want a slim PS3 then “I Guess” it’s a good value in any case. But to me unless it’s just a limited run promotion like the MW2-360 then the prices need to work their way down not up. I know, I sound bitter….but this is not for me so it’s doesn’t effect me either way. I just hate to see people get sucked into the Hype of a bigger HDD with very lack luster features, like 4 USB ports, multi memory slots and sexy touch controls. Wow, do I sound angry..LoL

Big harddrives are nice bit just like chip makers are in a MHz race it seems like the console makers are in a storage race and it’s pathetic. Prices keep going higher . They are working backards, instead of bigger Hess why not include 4 or more of the best games for that system.I got a xbox on launch day and my 20 gif isn’t full. O have a 120 gif pa3 and used like 3 gigs. The big hdd option is awesome bit keep it a option and give gamers games or cheap prices
i will be getting this new 250 gig ps3 next year. right now i have what i need in my 60gig ps3. i want the slim because of how easy you can change out harddrive. this option is very valueable to me moving forward with dlc.
the 250g model was out in the UK about 2 weeks after the slim lauch, you can buy it here in the UK for just £30 more than the 120gig and you get 2 free sony games of your choice also !! which seems good value, also the uncharted 2 250gig systems are also available !
