From that research i would have to say it really was a snip it from and american version of the demo running on 360. oh and there was a LB(left bumper) icon above the ingame battle menu next to the word COM. @ the final fantasy section of the podcast.

I didn't participate in the Beta but i have friends who have and they didn't acknowledge a set time to connect to the servers either.
