On this episode we talk about the impact that the PS3 will make at $299. Will it change the industry? Will they pass Microsoft and Nintendo and become number 1? Who knows, we sure as hell don’t, but there are plenty of opinions being tossed around this episode. Also on the show:
* Does anyone think Sony will come in first this gen? (Torrence)
* Miramasa is a must have Wii title (Torrence)
* Hiphopgamer won’t review 360 games (Torrence)
* Console failure rates (Weapon X)
* APB may be coming to PS3 (Hiphopgamer)

@Bucnasty,
I’m just telling it like it is, seriously. If NPD proves me wrong, I’ll own it.
SONY has a great chance to win August, but, today at Target, Wal-mart, & BestBuy the Elite is $299 & Pro is $249, the race may be tight. However, September will produce Halo 3:ODST & take September.
I’m not afraid to predict Consumer Behavior, this is fun for me, if I’m wrong, kick sand in my face, if I’m right: look out! I’ll be the fist one to get banned from the Bitbag forums. Na, joking, I wouldn’t be an @ss like that, its good times for me, better than real life.
Another entertaining Warzone. Just one beef…a lot of time was spent on whether a reviewer needs to finish a game in order to write a proper review. I agree that, depending on the game, some times this just isn’t possible. But for those games that offer 10 to 15 hours of single-player storyline, I think that it is important to finish them. I offer Star Wars: The Force Unleashed as an example. The Star Destroyer sequence is gimped. You would only know this if you played through most of the game.
Also, the reason Avatar (the James Cameron movie, not the The Last Airbender) is a big deal is due to the film techniques used in the movie. He is using a brand new 3D camera that many think will revolutionize the film business. However, no one is sure if the movie’s story will be up to par with the technology.
I actually got the chance to meet James Cameron at San Diego Comic-Con this year. He is hopeful that television manufacturers will start producing high-end 3D televisions in order to kick-start the entertainment industry. Panasonic is already onboard. Ubisoft’s Avatar game is going to be released in 3D, and based upon the early gameplay that I saw, looked pretty impressive. Of course, you’ll need a 3D television to play it in 3D.
BTW, I asked Cameron when was he going to make a sequel to Aquaman.
Seriously Bucnasty(1987???), you are one of the reasons i come to this site. I love to read flawed logic and laugh my … off. Mike, you do a good job too, so keep it up.
ontopic: good show.

Many games are too long & lack a compelling storyline. That means they’ll soon be in your germ-filled bore-draw, at the dustiest end of your games shelf, or back at the retailers after a trade-in. If you can’t be bothered to play it, why should a reviewer? Developers shouldn’t waste time working on something that only a few people will ever go back to. At the very least, they shouldn’t waste MY time.
* Assassin’s Creed.
* Ninja Gaiden 2.
* Devil May Cry 4.
These are examples of games that would have benefitted from having instantly accessible controls and a 1 or 2 hour campaign that starts easy, but grows incrementally difficult. As they stand, these games are too long, or too boring to finish. I say so…
Lets take Ikaruga, Jet Set Willy 2, R-Type and Ghouls n’ Ghosts as examples. It is possible to complete all these games in well under the 7 hours that many CoD4 reviewers complained about, but only if you’ve got the skills to do it – and by the way, most of you don’t. That doesn’t mean you won’t try again. After all, you really should be able to finish it in 1 hour, right?
The majority of videogames today require more time than skill and that’s a shame.

Nope. I did know that the PS3 in Europe is about E300 & £250 in the UK though.

Nope. Try £83M.
Yep my mistake. Still they have a campaign move going on.
LOL Gaiden was either too hard for you or too frustrating for you. I loved Gaiden 2 only hated that god forsaken camera. I’m picking it up for the PS3 just so i can play online with some friends and with the new camera issue fixed. The other two i agree too long and not intriguing enough.
Nah Ghouls and Ghosts had me pissed the fuck off playing it to what i thought was presumably the end just to have to do it again!!! Me and my brother use to race to see who could really beat the game faster.
You want games that require skill try Battletoads or Mega Man. Fuck i hated Mega Man shit had no passwords and energy was hard to come by. I shouldn’t even have to talk about battletoads… More recently i would have to say the first Halo on legendary was challenging and Uncharted on Crushing… Fuckin hate crushing.

“If you can’t be bothered to play it, why should a reviewer? Developers shouldn’t waste time working on something that only a few people will ever go back to. At the very least, they shouldn’t waste MY time. ”
The goal of a person who performs game reviews (or any kind of review for that matter) is not to have fun. It is to play the game, analyze its strengths and weaknesses, and ultimately, provide a recommendation to the public as to whether they should consider buying the game. If the reviewer happens to have fun while playing the game, that is a fortunate side benefit. The review is for the benefit of the public, not the reviewer.
“Lets take Ikaruga, Jet Set Willy 2, R-Type and Ghouls n’ Ghosts as examples. It is possible to complete all these games in well under the 7 hours that many CoD4 reviewers complained about, but only if you’ve got the skills to do it – and by the way, most of you don’t. If a reviewer doesn’t have the skill to finish a particular game in a timely fashion, then perhaps he or she is not best suited to provide a review for that particular genre. You wouldn’t care what your grandmother thought of Call of Duty 4, would you? But she might be able to offer some insight regarding Wii Sports from an older person’s perspective, right?
At the end of the day, the review is supposed to inform. If the reviewer doesn’t play the whole game, in some instances, that individual is not providing a full picture. Imagine what the reviews would have been for the Sixth Sense if all the critics walked out 3/4 of the way through the movie?
Again, the caveat to this is that certain games, such as JRPGs, are almost impossible to finish within a week. Especially if writing game reviews is not your primary occupation. But for a game that offers between 5 and 15 hours of single-player gameplay, there is no reason why a competent gamer could not finish the game once and write a review. It may not be fun, especially if it is a shitty game, but that is the life of a critic.
Who wants to make a bet with me that ODst wont even sell 5million. Even further who wants to make a bet that modern warfare 2 (360 only) will outsell halo odst.
Halo ODST will definately not sell more than three ps3 titles combined. Uncharted is going to have monster sales, Gt will have mass murder when it comes out and god of war 3 will sell huge. It nice to think halo will outsell those 3 titles but then reality smacks u in the face
owned?
Why? Here it is your bitching online here and complaining about actual discussions of games etc, now you pull out a BS challenge that this won’t outsell that? What makes you post funny though is that you actually put in your post and call out ODST against 3 titles. When you think about it I can put a combination of games together and say Halo 3 10 million outsold Resistance 1&2 and Uncharted
. As I said in another post will I be PWNING myself when I purchase all the titles you mention?
its pretty obvious odst wont sell more then MW2… Halos draw is its multiplayer which people can already have on halo 3 with expansion packs…. so if they are not interested in the odst single player… no real reason to buy the game….MW2 on the other hand is an all new multiplayer experience for the series… which means it will draw people interested in single and multiplayer.
Very stupid argument have some sense next time…..
@commander,
Love your attitude (nohomo). I wont take that ODST vs MW2, however, I believe ODST will prevail in the end.
In the US Market, where we can accurately track software sales & not pack-ins. Halo 3:ODST will outsell the top 3 PS3 exclusives by the end of December 09. You take your pick.
See you guys love to talk but none of you are willing to stand by your beliefs. I was going to offer anyone that challenge me a $10 card for PSN or XBL if they were right. Also why did you switch it up to only US Market. Nobody compares games by only US Numbers. I know why you did it and it was a nice trick. Ill give you that 360 completely owns North America.
What was your source for the numbers going to be, VgCharts?
Not a chance in hell. NPDs are the only source you can trust today.
What was your source going to be for numbers OUTSIDE the U.S.?
I only said US because NPD doesn’t count pack-ins. Other software charts count pack-in games, that’s why Uncharted sold over a million, without pack-ins it wouldn’t make it.
Go with the truth & I’ll bet you all day. I wont go with MW2 vs Halo 3:ODST because anything can happen there. However, I’ll be more than happy to bet you MW2 wont come close to Halo 3 numbers on the 360 only.
