yea id say the video was great except all i fucking see are ads popping up over the video gg.valve isnt allowed by microsoft to release anymore free addons. each company is only allowed to release 1 free dlc. that what i heard awhile ago
Yeah I’m sure I read that a while back too. MS only lets you put out 1 freebie, then you must make them pay. Which is why the Burnout content came out on PSN, separately and it came out as a huge chunk on XBL.
I have a good PC yet I still buy the games on my 360 which is due to Live. As far as the DLC content this is how things have evolved. Bottom line it makes business sense to sale DLC to consumers that will buy it. Research has been done to know enough consumers will buy the content. It is simple, look at the numbers each week from Live and that is just part of telling you that users who still play this one game every week tells you why companies and MS went this route. It still takes money to pay the developers who made the DLC to give to us. I don’t see what the complaint is at all. This practice is no different than any other business out there. DLC is no different then the disc we got prior to this gen. Halo maps? Ghost Recon? The only thing that has changed is the way they distribute the product to us. We don’t see add-on disc on a regular basis. Paying for extra content on consoles has not changed. Comparing it to PCs is a waste when we know were most of the consumers are at.
As for L4D2, I don’t know why anyone is complaining about it should have been an add-on or shouldn’t come out now. I don’t understand why anyone thinks they are getting shafted. If Madden can do this for the last 15 years or so I don’t see why Valve can’t do the same thing if they see people will buy the product. Got to keep business going. Before we complained it took to long for stuff to come out and now we complain a company is following with a sequel a year later? Can’t please everyone.
Comparing this to Madden or anyother Sports games like NBA or FIFA is a different case. I don’t disagree that some of the maddens which feature only more gameplay in terms as controlabilty and modes in some cases the biggest change was just graphics. BUT there were differnces in the games such as timing everything from how fast the players move to their animations, addition/subtraction of plays and improvement in the A.I for the opposing team and computer controlled players on your team simply trying to imply this to a previous madden would have broken the game.
The case with L4D2 is that dire and i can agree and recognize where Spenny and others are coming from. L4D2 is that big of gap from L4D and i remember Newell and Lombardi stating that work on L4D2 begun as soon as L4D was finished. Meaning that if they really wanted to they didn’t have to alter the code to a point where it wouldn’t work with L4D. They instead modified the game to the point where it just wouldn’t work well with L4D and it had to be kept seperate… As for charging Live users for DLC i’m not sure if they are forced to so BUT i do remember some indie developers and other devs stating that Microsoft doesn’t force you but REALLY, REALLY, REALLY, REALLY, REALLY suggests that you charge for the DLC or it may not get approved.
As for your views on payed DLC for xbox, ok valve is mainly a PC developer and they have a much more loyal PC audience. And honestly you shouldnt complain, PC gamers lately have been getting the shaft. Most AAA games don’t go to PC anymore and if they do get them they sometimes get a cheap version of the game (ex. NHL 09 for pc no longer has online). Why didn’t people complain when PC gamers were getting COD4 map pack for free? Look PC gamers have to deal with more issues to deal with so just be happy you don’t have to upgrade your PC every year to play the newest games.
L4D2: they explained that there was enough content (improved graphics, mechanics and etc.) to justify the sequel rather than just a DLC, besides they know they will sell more if they make it a retail game on disc rather than a ~8gb DLC. It just up for you to decide if you feel there is enough content in the game to buy it. If there isn’t wait until the price drops, but if you feel there is enough content then buy it. Since I haven’t bought the L4d, Im going to be picking up L4D2. Think about it this way, they didn’t just put out a carbon copy with minor improvements of the same game every year for years like EA sports does.
You do not HAVE to upgrade your rig every year to play the newest games. I have a 3 year old rig that till this moment can push Crysis on maximum settings… That is the Rhetoric in which scares PC gamers away…
I have no problem with the release of l4d2, it looks like a completely different experience and seems worth it to me. There are a few things I disagree with and it mostly pertains to the new characters. Its good to see new faces but i’ve already developed a liking to the original 4 survivors and i’d rather see them instead.
As far as the new campaign goes, I won’t be getting it. From my understanding of the article it will be shorter than any of the original 4 campaigns.Take that and add to the fact that its going to be close to the release of l4d2 and it seems not worth it to me.I know its only 7$, but thats 7$ I could be putting towards the purchase of l4d2.
It doesn’t need an engine update at all, like I said chainsaw, baseball bat, guns, new campaigns and new infected all could of been DLC period. And I will complain when PC gets something for free and its 360 counter part isn’t free, just like I would complain that NHL 09 on PC didn’t have online 2 wrongs don’t make a right. Also you cannot compare L4D to a annual sports title, if it wasn’t for that league being an annual thing niether would the game be! The bottom line is Valve promised a DLC rich environment with L4D and we haven’t recived it yet.
@sixamp I couldn’t find that thing about MS making the second DLC mandatory to be not free, A link would be helpful bud.
Also, we haven’t recieved the finished product to say it could have been a DLC and Valve has already gone on record to state it couldn’t be done with the amount of content for L4D2. Even if they had did some sort of DLC for the features you said above it will either and it came to 1200ms points then people would complain about the cost so it is a catch 22 for them. What strikes me though is do you have a PC that runs L4D? If so, why didn’t you just buy the PC version since none of this is news that DLC is cost on 360 and most games on PC offer free DLC? The game was cheaper on the PC.
By the way saying a company didn’t need to do a new engine update for a sequel is like saying Sony didn’t need to release the PS3 because the PS2 has been doing just fine.
I thought that valve said that was putting out Left4Dead2 out on the PS3 to sell more copies and get a bigger fan base. Thats why there making a new full game.
Written and Video are both great, at the end its your choice Spennnyyy TTT. Honestly you look like my friend a looottt!! You guys talk the same way and move your expretion the same way lol and same face and same body!!! freaky if you ask me. But nyways, I enjoyed it and I would appreciate more!
Keep up the good work, oh yeah. Can you pelase make it longer? if not its okay no problem.
Spenny. I thought your video was good and liked your rant on how gamers are getting fucked by vale, even more so towards the ps3. There have been rumors of that changing, but I will believe it when I see it. On conservative feed back I will tell you for next time turn down the music, it was hard to hear you. You were being little repetitive, overall it was good. Hope you do more.
Please. Please. Please. Dispense with the music in the background. Did you really think that was “cool” or “hip”? I come to this website to hear what you and the rest of the staff have to say about console gaming. Not to listen to horrible music in the background that is just a few decibels away from drowning out what you are saying.
I like your video. Please do more of them in the future. With less, or preferably no music in the background. And how about not sitting on the edge of your bed while doing the video segment. Can you not sit at a desk or in your computer chair in your Man Cave (as does Torrance)?
Finally, would it be possible to have more advertisements pop up and distract me from watching? I found it quite informative to learn about Tampax tampoons whilst listening to you digress about Valve DLC. Of course, I am just kidding, but hopefully making my point.
yea id say the video was great except all i fucking see are ads popping up over the video gg.valve isnt allowed by microsoft to release anymore free addons. each company is only allowed to release 1 free dlc. that what i heard awhile ago
Really damn man thanks for the info! I still believe that L4D 2 shouldn’t be coming out tho
.
Ps. the ads aren’t my fault

Bullshit…

valve=fun gaming. Whatever valve does i support.
Valve fucked us all after HL2….
You actually support the bullshit that was Episodic games of HL3: EP 1 and EP 2?
The time their taking with EP 3 they should have just combined them altogether, we’ve waited before haven’t we?

You know they may make a suprise visit in the new game.

They just announced more DLC this week for L4D.
