
On this episode we discuss the problems that are caused by pixel counters like Beyond 3D and The Lens Of Truth. There’s been a lot of hatred thrown at the PS3 version of Ghostbusters and it’s simply appalling. The game is absolutely beautiful and you will enjoy it on both the 360 and PS3. There are now people stating that they won’t buy the PS3 version because it has a ‘lower’ resolution than the 360 version. When I looked at both games side by side I had problems seeing any difference between the two. The second problem is the hate being thrown at Terminal Reality because of statements they made last year about what additions they could add to the game if it was PS3 exclusive. Here’s the quote from VG247 interview:
VG247: Why choose to lead on the PS3?
Mark Randell : Very simple reason: Ghostbusters is the property of Sony Pictures.
VG247: Right. But the game will be coming out on the 360, it’s a simultaneous release. Did Sony insist it was lead?
MR : Personally, I want to show off our PS3 technology. We’re one of the few developers who love the PS3 and have a great time with it. We have great technology for the PS3 and we want to show it off.
VG247: Isn’t it the same for the 360?
MR: We’re running the same game for both platforms but if we made a PS3-only game, for example, you could double the amount of objects on screen that you’re seeing. The PlayStation 3 has seven processors and the 360 only has three, so seven versus three means you can do a lot more on the PS3. We’re keeping the game the same over both platforms so we don’t want to take out any features.
VG247: So is the game scaled down because of the limitations of the 360?
MR : For example, we’ve reserved one whole processor on the PS3 for Dolby Digital 5.1 sound whereas on the 360 you have part of one processor to do that. So we can have a lot better sound mixing and a lot more effects going on at the same time. That kinds of makes us do a little bit less in the game [360] but makes for better audio. If we’re doing a PS3 only game however, we could be doing a lot more. We could be pushing a lot more on the screen.
There wasn’t anything said in that interview that lead us to believe that the graphics would be better on the PS3. More objects is more objects but it’s not better textures or resolution. Because of this interview, people thought the PS3 would be the better looking game all around. If they had fully utilized the PS3 and scratched system parity, the PS3 would have lots of more objects on screen. It’s not a bad thing, they should have done it. Some how people forgot and now because the pixel counters found the resolution to be lower, everyone is dogging TR and the game in general. I take time in this podcast to speak the truth and give Beyond 3D and The Lens Of Truth the finger. I have a right mind to get both games to further prove that the PS3 version is as equally beautiful as the 360’s, but it’s time for the podcast.

This is a big reason why I am huge supporter for console exclusive…..A third party dev cannot fully work on each systems strengths at the same. That is why exclusive games for the most part look great and play great for the system they were developed for. Especially since this gen the 360 and PS3 are completely different in terms of coding.

Come on man. Gametrailers when they debuted Ghostbusters on their show they even stated that the PS3 was the lead platform and the advantages that the PS3 has. Speaking in an exclusive interview with PSU, Terminal Reality Executive Producer Brendan Goss explains why the PlayStation 3 was chosen as the lead development platform for Ghostbusters: The Videogame and believes that the final result on Sony’s console should be “amazing.â€
The reason why Ghostbusters: The Videogame wasn’t developed earlier, he says, was because Terminal Reality were waiting for the technology to do the game justice. The PS3 was its first choice.
“Sony and the talent were adamant that before they got involved with a Ghostbusters game, the tech had to be capable of providing an authentic Ghostbusters experience, and that required graphics and physics tech,†he told PSU.
The developer also spoke about the Infernal Engine, which is used to power Ghostbusters: The Videogame, stating that Sony’s console is ideal for such technology.
“The PS3 is a more demanding system to develop on and it is what the Infernal Engine was designed to exploit from the ground up. With the multiple SPU’s it has onboard a solid multithreaded engine design can really take advantage of that and give you some amazing results.â€
In addition, Goss also confirmed that there will be exclusive content for PS3 owners.

Ghostbusters: The Videogame is due to launch June 2009 to coincide with the 25th anniversary of the movie.
The issue isn’t those sites like Beyond3d where the DEVELOPERS actually go if you have not been on that site yourself. It seems you ran with what alot of people on N4G and others did and just started complainging about everyone downing the game which I understand but the real issue is how does a game lead on the PS3 only to be 540p AND might I add a required 4gig install? I remember when they made that announcement and everyone from Hiphopgamer and N4G nuts went crazy being excited about this game and now I found it funny how those same fanboys on the site now say Terminal Reality sucks because of this.
OH I knew PS3 was the lead from that interview and others. Making the PS3 the lead platform means you can create a great PS3 game and then port it to 360 and/or PC without a loss of quality. If you start with the 360 and port to PS3, you run into problems. The PS3 architecture is very specific and once you can code for it, all of that can be brought over to the 360 with ease. This was the case with Ghostbusters.
It’s not just N4G but it’s other sites that are now showing TR hate which is unfounded. My bottom line is that the game is gorgeous and no one should be upset about the resolution. Why aren’t people upset at Sony for building a better system than the 360 but not giving it at least 1gb of RAM? Why do people always forget about memory? You could have a 100gb game and you are still stuck with a 512mb load. This means if the engine is huge and there’s tons of graphical features, resolution is the first thing to take a hit which is the case with the PS3 version. But in my eyes, if you can’t look at the game on your screen and see the resolution hit, you have no room to complain at all. I wish people would do more research. Yes, the SPU’s make things easier for them but it doesn’t mean better resolution. People seem to think if you can master the PS3 you can make every game 1080p native. I bet if these pixel counters released the native res on Infamous no one would be upset because it’s exclusive.
It’s a constant battle man and I’m doing my part to get people to buy the games and ignore the negative hype. I’m sick and tired of it.

Thats the issue though. Why did a game that DID lead on the PS3 have so many problems? Other questions that both the Developers and Sony themselves need to answer.
Why did they go with this game in Europe to be timed exclusive and not know the issues the developers were having early on in development since they came out and blamed ram for the outcome of the lead platform?
Why didn’t Sony which was stated in interviews worked closely with developers not see any of these problems?
Was it to meet the deadline for the 25th anniversary for Ghostbusters movie release on Blu-Ray?
Did it need more development time?
Why did this game with all those questions above end up the way it did in comparision to all the other multiplatform games that had very and I mean very minor differences compared to this game. The key thing again is this game was lead for the PS3 so the comment about it is better to lead on the PS3 gives you better results than it would on the 360 comes into question.
Torrence sir this is the part of journalism you may not like or not care about but I am asking if you haven’t already tried to ask these questions on what happen so everyone has the facts vs assumptions or guessing as to how this all came to be.
Tor, i believe that you and HHG couldnt` see a difference at comic-con in the hour or so you spent with Ghost Busters.But until you see them both on 50+ 1080p T.V.`s and played a couple hours you shouldn`t say it wont matter AT ALL TO ANYONE.
I saw the comparison screens (Your “200% zoom” remark was exaggerated) and i`m fairly sure the difference would be noticeable on a T.V. like mine.

Of course not. The problem isn’t with you it’s with the media and the RiGZ. If you have multiple systems and a huge tv, knowing what you know now of course you would buy the higher rez version. To say that TR sucks or you aren’t going to buy the game at all is ridiculous. Do you think Ghostbusters on PS3 looks shitty? Do you think if the word that it was 540p never came out and you bought the PS3 version that you would be upset? Ignorance is bliss.
No it doesn’t look shitty on smaller displays but on the larger displays you start to see the difference between the two without having to zoom anything. I agree it has been ridiculous with the hate to just not buy it on the PS3 which has been such an annoying stance since the gen started. So many make the claim they game in 1080p when the majority of those games are 720p and get excited about Final Fantasy PS1 version being released on PSN at much less resolution than that on those same 1080p displays. So much contradiction and hypocrisy about gaming in Hi Def is just as bad as all of a sudden people on watch anything HD on Blu-Ray and look at people as less than them that they watch SD or HD comcast and Directv also in HD.
The main issue I was saying in my reply above is really about what happened with Terminal Reality and Sony on this project. Yes the game still plays but what brought all this to light is why did this game come out the way it did as the lead version with 540p res and 4gig install?

Look at uncharted 2, nuff said.
Take for example Flash CS3(great software) as the PS3, if your good at action script (coding for flash) then you can make an awesome looking vector 2D game,
if your not that familiar with Flash CS3 then the game will not look good.
You have nothing to compare Uncharted 2 or any other exclusive on 360 or PS3 because they are not on the other console. So looking at any exclusive doesn’t proof anything since they don’t have to focus on the other console.

The originality to me that the bitbag showcases are the DailyDavis, Warzones, GamerCribs GamerGirlRocks content and even though Drakol isn’t doing it currently the Japan Gaming segments where fresh. That’s plenty more original to keep me coming back here over some of the other sites… Just my 2 cents

Please dont get me wrong, like i said in the first part of the post i love this site. i check it everyday, but they spend more time talking about the other sites more than their own and other affiliates. I stated checking out Kotaku and DLB, for the simple fact they talk about it so much. PROMOTE UR OTHER SITES.
How i was put onto this site was through the HHGS. He always said check out the warzone and i did and now i hooked. But other than that [warzone]there is nothing to drive daily traffic.
I do hope that you guys do reach ur ultimate goal, but let the other sites do them and continue to do you and more.

There’s 4 player co-op with missions and a survival type mode. If you like the movies you should at least rent it. Game is a blast.
