I agree with you Tor. I had a hd tv and a ps3 for 6 months before I even knew how the HD shit even worked. I didnt know what component cables or hdmi cords were. Then to top it off, you have to tweak with the settings to make everything look better when it should come standard with everything optimized. LOL!

I guess I’m in the minority here. I did so much research on the PS3 and 360 prior to making a purchase that I knew ancient figures like polygon numbers for each system. Needless to say, I knew exactly what was in the box for each and what I’d need to get for each. But I see Tor’s point however I wonder how many “ma and pa kettle” are buying PS3s. It’s hard to imagine that my fellow gamers would plunk down half a G on a console and not know what they would need for it but I guess that’s the case.

BTW, safe flight to all you guys…even John Shaw. Hope we get a drunken warzone while you are all together.

wheres the downloadable version, too busy these last few days my good brother ?

  • I always forget to add the dl link. Coming right up!

  • Liquid_Carbon says:

yea when i fist got my ps3 i was like this is the dam hd shit im like wtf i had a 1080p bravia then when i bought hdmi i almost cryed. and hey tor or anyone is ther a difference in the cheap hdmi or the $100+ ones?

    • Da_Dios says:

The only thing i can vouch for is that Gold plated connectors really are better BUT the standard $10-20 HDMI Cables you can get for cheap are great and will not hinder at all. Length is another factor… In other words you really don’t have to spend $60-100 on some fucking cables.

    • OOG says:

monoprice and eforcity have cables for like $5 and less I just bought a pack of 3 for $8 on a special sales….and they are all gold plated…

  • freddy911 says:

yeah man waste 600 on ps3 and im like wear hdmi cable lucky i had ps2 componts cheap basterds

  • DragonWarrior4 says:

Wow, Drakol didn’t hack into my comments today? Im proud of you man! :)

I don’t really agree on what Torrence thinks should be cut from the PS3. I love the Wifi in the PS3 and I use it all the time. We are living in a day and age where the use of wires is becoming less and less prevalent and I think Wifi built in the system is really good to have. I honestly want Sony to put Wireless N chips in the newer PS3’s sometime down the road so that people can have even more Wireless Range.

Everything with wires will eventually go wireless in the future and I’m glad Sony put it in the PS3. If the Wii has Wifi, I have absolutely no idea why Microsoft didn’t include it in the 360, but that’s an entirely different story.

I don’t use the Memory Card slots on my PS3 much, but I DO use them occasionally and initially I think Sony put those there for people that had PSP’s and Sony Digital Cameras that used the Memory Stick Duo, and for people that had Digital Cameras that used the SD Flash, and for people that have those devices, the Memory Card Slots are just nice to have. I do agree that CF Flash slots weren’t really needed considering it’s an older technology.

As far as Sony not including an HDMI cable with the PS3, I understand your argument, but Sony was loosing like 200+ dollars on every PS3 sold initially, and as of this day they are still taking a small hit (I think it’s around $40) on every PS3 that’s sold. Considering the fact that Sony is still selling the PS3 CHEAPER than for what it costs to manufacturer, I don’t really see the big deal in their decision not to include an HDMI cable. I mean, whenever you buy an HDTV, does it come with an HDMI cord? NOPE. Some HDTV’s may come with an HDMI cord, but I haven’t bought one that came with a HDMI cord in the box.

At this point, I don’t think Sony should cut anything else out of the PS3 to make it cheaper because I think that things like Wifi should be standard to begin with, and I doubt the Wifi Chip is a considerable manufacturing cost, so I just don’t see Sony cutting that out. Sony took out the Flash Card Slots for all PS3 models at least a year ago, so pretty much there’s nothing left that Sony could realistically take out to make it cheaper to make, so I think they should just on finding new ways of making even smaller parts and slimming things down to get PS3 manufacturing costs down.

  • Da_Dios says:

I agree with some points you make AlclayPS3 but not all. You hit it right on the head when i brought my HDTV’s (one in 07 and the other in 09) they both didn’t come with HDMI cables. It wasn’t a big deal for me because lot’s of companies do that. I agree with the WiFi, they should keep it. It’s not alot of money first off and it offers mobility and ease of access. Most people like you say Tor (Ma & Pa kettle) either have a cable modem or a wireless router with most what mostly consist of 3-4 open ports. Most people wouldn’t know that cabling is actually an expensive commodity. Wireless allows you to not have to worry about all that. With wires you have worry about where it’s gotta go, how far and so on, remember like you said everyone won’t have an extra switch like you and have it setup so conveniently as you do. Now i agree with Tor take out everything except the USB ports. Maybe keep one Memory Stick Duo slot for cameras, but really all you need is USB that it’s. Also i bet with the new slim (if it’s really coming) it’s not just the casing that will help with the price cut. Think about it, if they go with a cheaper plastic model they can change what Power supply and redesign the air flow within the system also shrinking the motherboard in the process. Word has it that they may have shrunk the Cell chip a couple of NM, they already made it fit inside a laptop so making it smaller could also be a part of trying to push the slim as well as the chip onto the mobile market. With those things considered Tor i think i may have to side with HipHop and expect 100 fat ones to drop off the price… We’ll see, BTW im not even a fan of DLB but i’m gonna go and show some love.

I know how he feels. The company i work for (global presence) is outsourcing our ENTIRE Corporate IT department. 80% of us will be outsourced while 20% of us have the opportunity to work for the outsourcing company. Now dig this that outsourcing company will be supplying apprx 80% of the outsourcing solution, go figure! Top it off with the fact they’re all coming from India (no, not speculation FACT) and we have a corporate wide cluster fuck. So yeah times is ruff and companies (especially you MICROSOFT) are taking advantage of the recession.

    Everyone keep yall head up!

  • Kapado says:

Man when i got my hdmi cable like 1 month after i got the system and an hdtv, i thought they had a secret firmware update, even the boot up screen looked 1,000,000 times better and playing in HD, was the second coming of Mr white jesus.
I wonde hos many PS3 owners out there are playing on old sd sets ?

  • INTERRERGATOR says:

i hope u have a safe flight torrence cant wait to see ur show lol

  • commander says:

  • Fatboy says:

I totally agree Tor, it is ridicules, Sony should put Hdmi cable, I have seen many people who have HDTV playing Ps3 with composite cable, they come and ask me what is wrong with the picture, they know nothing, anyway keep Davis century coming, thank you

    • GIJOEfan says:

I disagree because people don’t read manual. If they did they would know you need a HDMI cable to get 1080p and a component cable to get 480p 720p 1080i

      • OOG says:

first off component can do 1080p so you fail…

second he said composite which is the red white and yellow cords

        • GIJOEfan says:

The point is that I have friend that have HDTV that only use composite with there 360. So if they read the manual would have connected the component cable. I know the component can do 1080p but on most TV 1080 can only be done with HDMI.

        • GIJOEfan says:

  • LordOfAllGeeks says:

    BC:
Sony gave about a year headstart about PS3’s no longer having it….if these folks REALLY cared about BC…they would have gotten them.

    Price:
If you got the net…you can get yourself great deals if you keep your eyes open….Sony had about a 6 month promotion (U.S)It was advertised everywhere…Get a 60Gig PS3 with 9 Blurays for $479.99…..each BR movie was about $20-$30 at the time…..Break down the numbers and I really only paid about $250.00, give or take……oh and I told everyone I knew about it…they jumped in….

There are still deals going on.

    HDMI cable:
If you own all three systems…….not getting an HDMI cable with your PS3,is the least thing that will erk you. I would rather Sony not Add an HDMI cable and HIKE UP the price of the PS3….and get an HDMI cable of my liking for cheaper. Plus if Sony added a cheap/short HDMI cable in the box…everyone will rag on SONY for it. If your smart enough to know what you are spending $600.00 for….you should know what an HDMI cable is. If you don’t theres google and wikipedia…no excuses.

I agree with Torrence on the compact flash drive(maybe its a japanese thing)….but the memory stick(cameras) and SDcard(music&cameras)has to stay…don’t feel like transfering everything to a thumb drive.

  • snskid says:

This was such a great episode Tor. You should do more voices. :D
Now that you brought it up Sony should have put HDMI in the box.
Later versions of PS3’s don’t have all those different memory slots.

  • Rumblefish says:

You are right when you say that it was cheap from SONY not to include a HDMI cable, but you are absolutely wrong about the WIFI! My PS 3 in the livingroom is hooked up with a cable cause I mostly play online on that PS 3 and I use a 10 m cable, but the PS 3 in my bedroom is connected via WIFI so I can stream movies from my server to my TV in the bedroom. I am very glad about the included WIFI, so I don’t blame SONY for not including a ten Euro cable, cause they delivered anything else I need for a very good price.

Hope for backwards compatibility to come back, cause I wan’t to play MGS 2 and 3 again and only the PS 3 in the bedroom is a 60GB model.

btw: the SLIM is coming? I read that it was confirmed as fake!?

Best regards from good old Germany!

  • OrochinagiZER0 EX says:

Monster Hunter 3 is coming to the Wii and Dragon Quest IX Hoshizora no Mamoribito is due for the Nintendo DS on July 11. So yeah, it’s more than likely dim for everyone else. Here’s my prediction for the PS3 Slim as I already stated to blip, BigFreezy, and WorseCase via Video Chat on PSN. The PS3 Slim is gonna be unvielded at the Tokyo Game Show with the official price drop. Then Gran Turismo 5 will shown. All in the name of Final Fantasy XIII. Yeah as far as the PS3. Hell yeah. November 17, 2006. I still can’t believe to this day that the PS3 doesn’t include some kind of high definition cable. Hopefully it’ll be a standard in the PS3 Slim.

  • Swiff Epics says:

PS3 Defaintly SHOULD have WIFI…if it didnt i would have been vexed, because the way my house is set up, it’s very difficult for me to get the ethernet cables into my room. I was pissed off enough when I had to buy the wireless adaptor for 360.

I would use ethernet if i could, but with how shit is set up in my house, wifi is just easier.

  • DMasta718 says:

I do agree the memory slots should be cut. The only card slots I use are the SD cards and Memory stick Pro. The rest I don’t care about. Also, wasn’t smart for Sony for not including HDMI or components. Understandable, we know we could go on eBay or go to our local shops and get HDMIs for cheap but people who don’t research might have a problem with that. Then again that’s their fault. When I got my PS3 and it didn’t come with a GDMI, I simply went 3 blocks to the local shop and purchased a HDMI cord for $10.

WIFI should still be kept in the PS3 though. Even though I personally don’t use WIFI since I connect everything, other people might have their game systems setup in different places like one in the bedroom and one in the living room.

And BC is not a huge issue with me (even though I have a 80gb BC PS3) I understand why it’s important to some people.

Since I’m here on this Friday night, I can finally make it into the Warzone chat lol
Also LMAO @ some of the N4G idiots in the comment section

  • ausbo says:

ha all of the ps3 fanboys on n4ps3g are giving it too you tor.
Good show and i will be looking forward to your e3 coverage, have a safe flight, and have fun.

  • pixelsword says:

I think They should have a PS3 with everything, and a PS3 with the bare minimum if it will bring the price down.

    • Rumblefish says:

Oh, please! not a crippeled version like the Arcade! They should reimplement the BC and give it a 320 GB HDD and 4 USB ports again and leave the rest as it is. I admit the card slots aren’t important at all, but they’re not includet in the 80 GB model anyway. And they should NOT price cut the PS 3! It’s a unique beast on the market with all it’s features and should not be cheaper or nearly as cheap as the Wii that can’t do shit!

  • Kapado says:

You a fool for that voice you made. Now the RFBUTT *”Rednecks For Better Understanding This’here Technology’* are goinb to be looking for you at E3.

  • pixelsword says:

    1. That is not Raiden, that is Gray Fox or Kyle Schneider (Black Ninja) [likely Fox].
    a. Raiden didn’t lose an eye.
    b. Raiden’s body was replaced with 97% artificial parts in MGS4, so having such a battered body given the technological advances in MGS4 wouldn’t make sense.

    2. I suspect that Raiden is Gray Fox’s or Black Ninja’s son
    a. Gray Fox and Black Ninja were in Zanzibar (somewhere in Africa)
    b. Raiden was a child soldier in Africa

    2. “Solid” is “Naked”
    a. the prototype Outer Haven logo is on the Beret
    b. Solid never wore a beret
    c. Solid was always clean cut; Naked was always a little mangy looking

This new game will likely take place after both Big Boss and Gray Fox were supposed to be dead, I’m thinking… Or some event before Metal gear since B.B. Already Had Gray Hair by then.

Torrence, I gotta say, when you do those Davis Daily videos, you can’t be beat. Instead of getting people 1upping each other with crazier and wackier rumors, you simply tell it like it is and dont pull any punches.

I haven’t listened to all the more recent Warzone podcasts because I think it features too much speculation, too many different people talking at the same time. The Warzone is a great podcast but I prefer a 1-2hour show that features 4 or 5 guys.
I don’t know if this would be a good move for the bitbag.com’s traffic stats but I would really like to get a Video RSS feed for the Davis Daily clips. I would love to be able to sync that stuff to my Zune/iPod without having to look if a new one is available, download it, convert it and then sync it to my media player.

Until then, I guess I’ll have to do it the old fashionned way and risk missing an episode every so often.

  • shaolinchamp says:

the new 80 gig ps3’s do not have memory card slots, so they did cut them out.
