  • DragonWarrior4 says:

Damn Jon, you never asked me that question buddy? WTF dude? lol. I guess I will just have to do that here. So you asked people why do exclusives matter? Well I have many reasons, so let me give you them now.

    1) Exclusives are the reason why you can justify buying another console even though you have the other. Whats the point of buying a ps3 if all the games you want are on the system you own already? Why do I want a ps3 then you might ask? Because it has some great exclusives man! :)

2). Exclusives mean that the developers can concentrate on the consoles strengths, such as taking full advantage of the bluray of the ps3, or being able to use the 512 MB of RAM without having to deal with the complexity of the multi threading architecture of the cell.

    3) Exclusives keep publishers like Microsoft and Sony to try and out do each other with price drops, more games that are exclusive, and upgrades that gives us consumers more bang for our buck. Imagine if their wasn’t a 360? Now imagine how plain the ps3’s xmb would be right now? Yuck.

You see I gave perfect examples why exclusives matter. Sure there are some people who want them for the wrong reasons. You know, those people that want the 360 or ps3 to fail for their own personal reasons, but luckily thats not the case. True current gen gaming FTW!

BTW, I cant wait to see what you do at E3 Jon. I wish you and the whole bitbag crew a safe trip to E3.

    • Jon Shaw says:

Yo whats up man, yea I was asking people on skype but not directly asking them. I guess I’m looking at it from a different perspective because I guess I never looked at a certain games or games to give me reason or push me in a certain direction to get a console. I just love games and the systems I know I want them all. But I see your point.

I don’t see your second point. See I still don’t see any thing out of exclusives other then graphics that just make me say damn, I have to get this console because of this. I, in my opinion feel like developers are not making use of the blue ray, on ps3, and i don’t feel like 360 is being utilized to its full potential either. But at the same time I see some great third party games that look good, play good on both systems, and can also compete if not out do exclusive games. which brings me to one of my points how are exclusive games making games better cause maybe its just me but I don’t see it.(thats not to say there are not great exclusives)

      • DragonWarrior4 says:

Hey jon, i dont understand how you dont get my second point when I clearly stated why concentrating on a specific console can bring out the best in a game. Just imagine how much bigger and better GTA4 could have been if they weren’t limited to 7 gigs of space. Think about how irrelevant the 360 would be if it didn’t have xbox live. Its things like that that make a big difference in not just exclusives, but all games. I could go on but this topic is something that Ive talked to many people about, and it gets old to me real quick.

  • kingpin2k7 says:

microsoft is actually generous when you think about it. i mean to someone like me i don’t own a 360. they are kind enogh to release some of their console exclusive on the Windows platform. those kind of gesture allowed me to play mass effect, gears of war, fable 1, halo 1 & 2, bioshok before it’s release on the ps3, hopefully alan wake and Mass effect 2 (thanks to EA i guess). (hugs PC ‘lets never fight again’).

  • Ray186 says:

At the end of the day all that matters is money. Hopefully all of the developers will sit up and take notice to what happened to Square Enix (Profits do 33%) when the decided to sell out their loyal fanbase.

    • Please define, ‘loyal fanbase’.

    • Spencer Thompson says:

Ray you obviously mean sony loyalists when you say loyal square fans, and that makes no fucking sense. The first final fantasy was on pc and NES and then they continued on Nintendo till the ps1 came along. Now if that is what you mean plz stop the fanboy gibberish, now if its not what you mean but i know it is cause were talking exclusives please explain yourself.

    • Jon Shaw says:

1st i would like to know how did they sell out? Then how do you know that decrease in profits is from them going multiplat? Also what does loyalty have to do with anything? You still are getting the game!

    • OrochinagiZER0 EX says:

A guy on hiphopgamer’s website answered your thought very well. Loyal fanbase? More Sqauresoft/ Square Enix games sold the most on what platform? Have any Square Enix titles made the top ten on Xbox Live yet? Have any RPGs made that listing yet? Funny how Square continues to try to justify their sellout by damage control and yes sellout is the word of the day. Sellout means that you promise your fanbase something (Final Fantasy XIII) but then you go to the higher dollar despite the fact it’s fanbase isn’t keen on the genre (Microsoft). They did this simply to convince consumers not to buy a PS3. That’s it. There is not ONE Square Enix title available on the PS3 for purchase here in North America. Trust me. After playing the Final Fantasy XIII demo, the feeling is mutual. I’m still waiting for the PS3 version of Crystal Defenders. The demo was the first time I’ve seen a Square Enix logo on the screen. Can’t wait for E3. 11 more days.

      • Da_Dios says:

Orochi you have a good point and more so, so does the author of the article. NO game that they released on the 360 has cracked 500k. In fact Last Remnant only pushed 210k in US 170k in JP and Star Ocean has the exact opposite (210k in JP, 170 in US). Even Final Fantasy XI didn’t sell a million to this date. I think you hit something with that post, even with “loyal fanbase” and the attempt to turn the phrase south in reality Sony consumers have truly been the base audience for Square-Enix. Yes it’s true they didn’t birth the series the core of the fanbase in recent history supported Sony’s console. I understand Square-Enix trying to “westernize” their appeal. Such is the observation when they have expressed with so much delight developing for Microsofts console BUT as witnessed with a demo of a game more then 50,000 PS3 were sold in a week just to get their hands on FFXIII in JP. That’s saying something… If you don’t believe that Sony’s fanbase whether that is PSP, PS2 or PS3 owners are more loyal to Square-Enix then please state a rebuttal.

  • DragonWarrior4 says:

Hey Ray, I dont understand your logic. What do you mean profits do 33%? Im not trying to flame you by any means. I just trying to understand what the fuck are you trying to say?

BTW, numbers shouldn’t mean shit to you unless of course a game sells badly which nowadays means the company won’t produce sequels, or worse. Just look what happen to Factor 5 R.I.P. Thats what I dont get about fanboys. They wish games don’t sell, but they don’t think about the people that it affects when a game dont sell. People not paying their loans, mortgages, not being able to provide for the families, etc…. . Be part of the solution and stop all the hate. All it causes is negativity.

BTW, I dont think that having a preferred system is wrong. If the ps3 had an xbox live online architecture I would jizz in my pants.

    • kingpin2k7 says:

i think he ment profit down 33%, i hope that not true, i’ve been waiting for FF13 for so long!

      • kingpin2k7 says:

oh wait wasn’t squaresoft in a worst situation after releasing FF: The Spirit Within, can’t remember

        • OrochinagiZER0 EX says:

Yes they were. This was primarily the reason why Squaresoft had to merger with Enix Corporation. Also Hironobu Sakaguchi, the creator of the Final Fantasy series, left Squaresoft after this also. As far as this exclusives argument is concerned Dragonwarrior got this easy. It’s funny how all the sudden since the beginning of the year that Xbots are questioning the importance of exclusives and yet this was not the case back in ‘07. Don’t worry Urkel bots. Yeah exclusives don’t matter yet Microsoft is willing to pay millions to take them away from Sony. To this day it still blows me away that Microsoft paid more than 50 fuckin million dollars for GTAIV. To give you an example of how much 50 million actually here’s this. Panama barely makes 50 million a year. That’s a mufuckin country! Oh yeah and another thing Sony’s brand is stronger than Microsoft. Aaron Greenburg admitted this in Torrence’s 1 vs 1. He also made it clear that this is why Microsoft steals Sony’s exclusives. To convince consumers not to buy a PS3.

          • Spencer Thompson says:

You need to rethink you Microsoft isn’t a bigger brand then sony statement and say microsoft games division because without that you look like a fool cause MS = one of the biggest brands in the world. Now with your square loyalty bullshit, you can definitely tell your a sony fanboy, cause they’re the ones who complain about that. Honestly a game company should spread their games around, you complaining that its coming to xbox is very ignorant and selfish. Oh and how the fuck do you know 360 players don’t like turn based RPG’s I have a friend who loves them and only owns a 360 PLUS don’t you want people to maybe get into this genre and this might be the game to do it for them. You seem like a very self-centered person with comments like that! OH and IF IF anyone should be mad (which is still fucking idiotic) wouldn’t it be the Nintendo only users? They’re the original FF players I don’t see any complaints from them that square switched camps to sony!

          • Da_Dios says:

You lost the point in your response somewhere Spencer. First off Nintendo’s core and base audience has changed since the original FF was released. Like i said earlier yes the franchise started with Nintendo but it didn’t expand as much as it has and with all of it’s glorified success with none other then Sony. I’m not gonna sit here and defend Orochi if he feels FFXIII should have been exclusive, i’ve written this before my gripe isn’t that they want to expand their audience. It’s the fact that they shafted everyone to the West either because they want to be fair with Microsoft or it’s apart of a signed deal. Dude im shafted and forced to await development for a console to finish when the game is damn near if not already DONE for the PS3. To me that’s a shaft move and it’s bullshit. I love FF and im pretty sure so do alot of people but could you imagine how it would feel if this happened with GTA? If GTA was released in Japan for the 360 but us in America would have to wait for a “simultaneous” release in the west when development for the 360 is obviously done. Localization doesn’t take as long as it used to. Look at Demon souls it came out in Feb. it’s now coming this fall to the US. It won’t make as huge a splash FF if any but it’s an example of how short the localization process has gotten. I don’t care that a broader audience can enjoy a game but at the expense of half of it waiting, just isn’t kosher if you ask me…

Also it’s not that the 360 owners don’t like RPG’s it’s just that Sony’s (even Nintendo’s) names are almost synonymous with the acronym RPG… Microsoft is still building that relationship.

    • OrochinagiZER0 EX says:

Factor 5’s US offices closed. They’re still open.

  • Killa_5150 says:

Exlusives matter because the developers know there are FANBOYS in this industry.

  • Fatboy says:

Tor where is DD,4 days without DD,I don’t know if you busy, please We need DD,
On the topic,I care for some games other than that I don’t , but I really feel FF13 is going to be hurt because it went to Xbox360,I don’t believe SE when they say “we have yet to start working on the 360 version” .this PR bullshit, there is no way they going to release the game on 2 consoles with it knowing how other console will perform, I’m 100% they are doing test on both consoles to see if the 360 will be able to perform good, if not, then you know what they going to do to the Ps3 version,

    • Jon Shaw says:

ok lets say that they did dumb down the ps3 version to make it for the 360, how is it going to hurt your experience seeing as you never seen or played the original to know what you are missing?

  • Instrumedley says:

Exclusives matter because it creates competition. Competition improves efficiency and gives people choice. Choice is what consumers want. No exclusives equals no incentives for developers to out do each other. E3 is a competition. What goes behind the scenes of E3 is not a competition. What the public sees is competition between companies.

    • Jon Shaw says:

Ok i see your point as well. I want to ask this while ms and sony compete to outdo each other in games, what are they doing to compete with third party games that are starting to look, play and sell better then their exclusives? I also don’t feel that not having exclusives makes it to where its no choice. I see it as now you still have a choice to make and the features of the console will be the deciding factor and now you can have the console of your choice and don’t have to miss out on any games by choosing.

      • Instrumedley says:

You brought up another argument in your reply now. Do consumers pick consoles based on games or hardware? Everyone can see that it is a mixture of both hardware and games. The Wii has shown that hardware (I include the Wii Fit) sells combined with shovelware aside from Madworld and first party titles. Sony has somewhat strong sales for it’s Blu-Ray capabilities. Microsoft is at the happy medium of hardware and games along with it’s unbeatable price.

When everyone can enjoy the same games on the same console there is no point of having different companies such as Sony or Nintendo. The companies would be all bought up into one overseeing company. Money is the big issue.

  • chase167 says:

    now give me
warhark, heavily sword ,Uncharted Drake’s Fortune,Resistance: Fall of Man 1&2
    Ratchet & Clank Future,LittleBigPlanet ,Killzone 2,MotorStorm 1&2 ,SOCOM
    etc

i dont need no Multi platform games im straight with those games and more to come
    thats my opinion

by the way Torrance Bionic Commando sucks
they should have never pulled that game out of the closet

  • Da_Dios says:

Well i should address this because with everything said i agree 100% with Dragon Warrior. Exclusives define a console. They’re will be more multi-platform games out there to choose from but if there was no exclusives then how could you honestly justify a purchase of the second console. Exclusives aren’t just to show you what each platform is capable of but to make the console stand out from it’s competitors.
Now the ONE thing that is pissing me off to NO FUCKING END on the FF XIII debacle is the fact that western gamers have to wait longer to play the game before they announced the multi-platform decision. I can care less that 360 owners can play the game Square already said it wouldn’t affect the PS3 version. What i hate is that Japan will get the game and instead of having to wait the normal localization time for the game we have to wait for the porting to the 360 console. Shit i can’t even play the demo that comes with advent children complete.

I don’t mind companies getting timed-exclusives or 3rd party companies going exclusive with a game that’s fine. They agree to certain deals for that. Also i think anyone debating either for or against the notion that whether a game can or cannot be done on another system is well…kinda stupid. You guys argue that how do the developers KNOW that it cannot be done if they haven’t tried but HOW do you know that they don’t know? Yeah it’s PR hype but we don’t know if this is true or not so even discussing it is pointless. Who cares? Why ponder if the developers are lying? Yeah their word isn’t gold but then again unless your a developer and worked on that project and knows the technology/coding/direction of the project you have NO clue to what and how that translate to the other console. So really my question why even bother worrying about it? Honestly i know that questions like this and others are aimed at fanboys, i just get annoyed when we give the fanboys more attention then they deserve…

    • chase167 says:

      good point
      i got a 360
because of lost planet and gear of war
now if it was on both console i wouldn’t have no reason to buy a 360

      hey john keep it up
      like this shit
i want to here more from you

  • DzNutz23 says:

i feel u jon but i only buy exclusives now
not because i dont like the other games but because im tryin to cut back on buyin games and i dont really like fps so im not trippin

    keep it up jon

  • OOG says:

well the companies as well as journalists said before the systems even launched that this generation wasnt going to be as abundent with exclusives as it used to be and the exclusives the companies did have were going to matter… and it has…. for the most part……

but yes exclusives are what push you to buy a system when you are looking at them all and they are what drive sales… not all sales… but its probably the most important sales because its the people on the fences who will usually buy systems based on the exclusives they have……perfect example is I didnt bother buying the ps3 until MGS4 because I didnt think any of the other games out at the time warranted me buying it.

  • MyPSNisDylanMMc says:

I dont care about exclusives myself except for the fact that I only own a PS3. I might get a 360 when Splinter Cell: Conviction comes out but so far I’m good with my PS3 games. If a PS3 exclusive went to 360 like MGS4 or inFamous, or even God of War 3, I wouldn’t care at all, that means more people get to play the game that I like to play.

  • Kapado says:

I read a joke about a kid that while examining his testicles, asked his mother if those where his brains. ” Not yet she said” .
Well now this fake journalist has proven to me that that was in fact, not the stupidest questions ever asked, I do honestly believe that John shaws brains are indeed testicles misplaced, and jesus knows where his real brain ended up ? May the lord bless his special heart. I really mean it, but what a retarded question….but “special” or not it is extra comments and content for thebitbag.com, Torrence make sure his “special helmet ” is strapped on tight at E3.

    • Da_Dios says:

Seriously i think this is one of the funniest comments i read on the bitbag so far… Freaking hilarious!

    • Jon Shaw says:

Yo damn how long did it take you to type that on ya ps3 with the dualshock? For some one who don’t like my vids and don’t like me you sure do show up to every single one!

  • gameraxis says:

come on now man. There are AWESOME third party, multiplat games, thats 100% true. But when you take a look that the percentage of multiplats that are great its like 10 percent of all the multiplat games out there. When u look at first party exclusives, its like 90% awesomeness.

Its almost a guarantee that exclusives will be nasty and show more greatness that us hardcore want.

And i may sound like a fanboy, but at the moment, ps3 exclusives are almost always top notch that blow everything else away.

Look at uncharted 2 5 min gameplay, look at what god of war is growing to be, look at granturismo, fuck, look at killzone. Those are the best games in their respective genre. And i think its obvious why exclusives are a big deal.

  • Basic-information says:

Simple answer, to make me look smart when I bought a 360 and PS3.

I mean why buying two consoles? because each console offers me great exclusives and the more exclusives the more I can clean off the dust from my PS3 or 360.

And why is third party exclusives are important too? you ask.

Because a shitty situation like Fallout 3, Grand Theft Auto IV and FFXIII wouldn’t happen and you could live easily with one console, or two.

I mean the games are multiplatform but some people can’t play the exclusives DLCs because MS said so.

Either release it as exclusive for the 360 and treat it as one, or make it multiplatform and treat your game equally for both console owners becuase it was meant to be multiplatform.

Multiplatform = equal experience but not when MS pours their money to the fucking developers.

as for FFXIII’s situation, the game is getting fucking delayed further just because MS decided to release it at the same time of the PS3 release, even the JP version will probably be delayed for next year.

Now don’t tell me that Im a fanboy or something like this shit because Im not, Im just pointing out the negative effects for multiplatform games.

The fucking game was announced 4 years ago and it will be released next year just because of the multiplatform release decision and god knows when FF Versus XIII is coming oh an don’t forget, there is not even an announcment for Kingdom Hearts 3, congrats, multiplatforms won, Im a big Square enix fan and thats why Im pissed off because I didn’t experience an awesome RPG this whole generation from Square yet and I keep waiting for FFXIII and it’s getting worse everyday passes.

If and only if MGS4 was a multiplatform title, the same thing could have happened easily, look how much it took for Konami to release it for the PS3, let alone to the 360 too at the same time, the game would have been released at the same period of RE5 release at minimum.

  • slavedemonxi says:

After listening to that I’m strapping on my helmet and taking the wheel of the short bus. This argument is so old and stupid now.

  • VaddixBell says:

    Yo, Jon.

    EPIC FAIL!!!!!!!!!

DragonWarrior’s point 2 hit the nail on the head. He’s completely right yet you won’t admit he’s made an excellent point. A game built from the ground on one console that will utilise the strengths of that console would be more beneficial to the game than a game that has to be built on two different architectures.

I think you were a little stubborn on that point and don’t want to admit you’re wrong. I like to see 3rd party games on one platform so the game will benefit from some focus…

    BTW
No fanboy shit here … Kinda happy that Mass Effect 2 was announced 360/PC as the development team would be foucsed, but still I wanted my friends who only own PS3 to be able to play it.
FFXIII announcement, still disappointed that Square Enix talked about multiplatform development when they have yet to release one game on PS3 when they have released 6 games on 360 and obviously the game will not have focus(Wada said that work has already begun for the 360 version – Development staff not working on PS3 version!)
