On this episode we discuss how defending your system is just as stupid as trashing another system. It’s a complete waste of time. What we found is more important is educating the masses about the video game industry. Hiphopgamer and Braynbasher debated their reasons for buying a PS3 or a 360. Braynbasher buys whatever console his friends buy so he can play with them. Hiphopgamer buys the system that has his favorite games and makes friends online. We also give you a little example of the madness that goes on prior to the show actually starting. Also on this episode: * 2 Book announcements from Torrence Davis * Uncharted 2 beta * UFC will change the way THQ makes games * Red Faction demo * and much much more!!

yay finally its here
what Dominican Ninja says… yaaayy
I belive aliens created us…
For a guy that supposedly doesn’t care about sales you allow more talk about sales on your podcast than any podcast I listen to. Uncharted 2 beta won’t move units? Why do we care? Right game wrong platform? What! Save statements like “right game wrong” whatever for conversations about power, graphics, or whatever. Why do we as gamers care about whether Sony markets the game? Both systems aren’t going anywhere. Sucker Punch is owned by Sony so it’s not like they’re not going to be subsidized. So why does it matter?
On a different note, the remark from HHG in the opening about praying for Torrence because some big guy got beat up was just weird.
Well the fact is you dont hear them talking about the week to week and monthly sales often…. there is no reason why they cant comment on games coming out and what they think will or will not happen…..
And its not like Tor or HH etc said they thought it was the right game on the wrong system that just happened to be a comment by someone on the show and was the whole shows view……
You have to realize this is a show that allows people to speak their opinion and there are a lot of show hosts and then guests in that have opinions and they will let them be known….
And the reality is I doubt most of the people on or listening to the show really care how the game is about to sell or the system but they can still have an opinion on how to make it better and what the companies are doing wrong…. at least they are not sitting there comparing numbers they are just commenting on the companies strategies to lure us the consumers into buying the systems and games.
“Wasnt the whole shows point of view” I meant lol
“Well the fact is you dont hear them talking about the week to week and monthly sales often…. there is no reason why they cant comment on games coming out and what they think will or will not happen….”
I disagree wholeheartedly. The last few shows have had sales discussion that went on at length. Again, sales talk is whatever. I hope a game I like sells so I can see a sequel. Look at Heavenly Sword for an example. But when a guy states he hates talking sales, and yet his podcast does more sales talk than any other, I think I’m not wrong in asking him what’s up.
“And its not like Tor or HH etc said they thought it was the right game on the wrong system that just happened to be a comment by someone on the show and was the whole shows view……”
I never said it was Tor’s or HH’s view. Can I not challange a comment made by someone other than Tor or HH?
“You have to realize this is a show that allows people to speak their opinion and there are a lot of show hosts and then guests in that have opinions and they will let them be known….”
I really hate that “this is my opinion” shield that so many put up whenever you challenge them on something. I realize it’s the opinion of others. That’s fine. But I’m also entitled to express my own opinion am I not?
“And the reality is I doubt most of the people on or listening to the show really care how the game is about to sell or the system but they can still have an opinion on how to make it better and what the companies are doing wrong…. at least they are not sitting there comparing numbers they are just commenting on the companies strategies to lure us the consumers into buying the systems and games.”
I agree. I could give 2 craps about doing Gears 2 type numbers because I don’t own stock in Sony. I just want a game to sell well enough to see a sequel. Equating a game’s value to its sales means that Wii Play is an all-time classic. Leave the sales talk to Michael Patcher. As Torrence says, both consoles are doing well enough that neither is going anywhere so why do we care about sales?
What Tor. Love that show, just started listening. HHG got me onto to ur shit. I usually just listen and call it a day, but today i had to register just so i can comment on ur Infamous / Uncharted combo.
I had to listen and re-listen to ur logic as to why it would not push more units. The question that came to my mind was IP were u talking about (as to which IP will have increased sales). This promotion will definitely push more Infamous unit. I say this because i had no plans on getting infamous, but now this will be a day one pick up for me and i will probably play the uncharted demo before i play infamous.
I think ,and its just my guess that Sony sees the ps3 as like a ferrari compared to the other next gen systems and they dont really care about the volume of sales to a certain extent. I think because of the high price tag of the ps3 and that they are stuck at the 399 price point for so long now that they have this V.I.P status view of the ps3. I think all the new ips that are coming out this gen are now just set-ups for the ps4, because sony just introduced alot of new features this gen and packed their console so much with blue-ray and bluetooth and wifi and everysystem with the hd. and not to mention a seriouse attempt for online with the psn and home. I think this generation was sort of like a beta generation for sony for the ps4 , Just because the way i think of it sony wants to remain the top #2 the nintendo wii came outta nowear to just dominate and #3 they underestimated microsoft commitment this gen to the 360 , The reason why i say this is because they abandoned the xbox and i bet sony just thought that microsoft could not pierce the global market the way they did. AND that is why we are in the situation we are in right now. if we are true gamers this is the best time to be a gamer #1 microsoft is seriouse about their games division and it think we could all agree now that their not going to abandon gaming. #2 sony is rallying to establish a bunch of new ips for justifying the ps3 and to win gamers that they have lost over and also most importantly to set up the ps4 for dominance the following gen. #3 and im glad to see nintendo back in it console sales wise this generation after the beating they took with the gamecube sales wise.
SO as far as prototype and infamous arwe concerned i really think that sony just wants to break the ice with another new ip with us gamers.SO that s why i think sony doesnt really care all that much to certain extent about sales of infamouse just like killzone 2 they just wanted it to get out their and quality mattered first in all their first party games to set up for the ps4 .Just imagine the how many ips combined we can expect from sony for the ps4 that we all now that are going to be exclusives because its their own ips.
So excuse my spelling in this post ,i stink at spelling even at 36 years old im still not good at it , but i hope you guys understand what im trying to say here. Sony thaought they could just roll this generation over but they ran into aspeed bump called microsoft so they have to switch their game up and adjust to the current times and to set up for the future and the end result we all benefit as true gamers. and by the way microsofts is more concerned about sales and they push ips and third party ips because they want to crack into sony’s market and become house hold name i think that was their goal this gen and to be honest i think every company sony microsoft and nintendo already succeded this generation of what they wanted to establish . the software sales right now as far as sony is concerned is secondary . again this post is just my take on things right now and again please exuse the spelling . piece out .
The whole “I bought this or that, because my friends bought it” is a stupid excuse man!
i chose to buy the product based on my research not because duh… my friend got it too.
The way things are for normal people the majority I would say….they buy what their friends have. Any product you can think of is run by popularity and familiarity. The Wii is the perfect example… people buy it because they see their friend has it and everyone else has it so they buy it to fit in and be able to compete with their friends etc…..
Some people may say that they didnt buy it because their friends have it but then you ask where did you first play it and what do your friends own and I gaurantee the majority of people will always have the same answer that the majority of their friends own or have owned the same thing.
The majority of people dont do research on the systems… they see their friends and the games they own etc and see that they are having fun with system/games so they in the end want it to…. It happens with all types of products from clothing such as the latest fads such as American Eagle etc to Ipods etc… the majority of people are easily swayed and influences by what their surroundings are and what they are familiar with/seeing.
Its all a very simple consumer behaviour that applys to probably probably over 80% of the population.
my first console this generation was the nintendo wii, i bought it based on what my friend were saying about zelda, and what’s that game…Red Steel and wii sports, so i bought it then i realised how unapealing it was. I though to myself i could have bought zelda on the gamecube(which i still had at the time) and save some money cause that was one of the main reasons for buying the console.
and for the next console me and my close friend had a long discussion about which console i should get ,he had an Xbox360 with gears 1 and rainbow six vegas at the time with some other games, and he kept bashing the ps3 to no end you know the usual “no game” + “inferior online” argument.
so i started doing my research on which console to buy, he wasn’t too happy about the result. if he wasn’t a true friend the worst thing he could have done would be to stop being my friend. i’m happy with my purchase
sorry for rambling on, but all im saying is you shouldn’t be afraid of what your friend or the public think, at the end of the day it’s your money not theirs, it be cool if they gave me the money and let me spend it, but that’s not the case.
If you listened to the whole podcast instead of listening to a bit at a time then commmenting. You would have realized that it’s not my number one factor, but it is a factor. With the Waggle, Blu-Ray, and Xbox Live era. Part of my decision to pick my first system of this generation (not my only system) was if my friends were going to get it or not. While I will play with random people all the time. It is nice to get on and play with my friends and talk shop. It is no different than friends who go to a ball game together. If your friend is going to the Phillies game, you don’t suddenly say I’m going to the Cubs game instead. No you want to hang out together. That’s part of the point of having friends. I.e. Back in the early 2000’s my friends and I were all getting new PC’s and we wanted to game on them so we all brought a game called Rainbow Six Three. We then played that game for the 9 months straight almost everyday. Me buying that game was a factor for them. They came over and saw what it was like and had to get it. Now when Rainbow Six Vegas 2 came out last year. I didn’t get because I was still playing COD4. They never went back to COD4 and I played with random people for the next 3 months because RSV 2 was all they played. If you don’t believe me check my gamercard on my website http://www.theknightsofgaming.com (insert plug here) I did think about though and it was a factor. That’s not for everything or every game. Ultimately the decision is mine, but to say that it doesn’t factor in for you. That’s you (and HHG). Not me and and I’m sure not others. For I’m a social gamer. As a social gamer I enjoy playing with strangers but I also really enjoy playing with my friends.
i didn’t say that was your number one factor, I don’t know who the Phillies or the Cubs are i’m from the U.K.. what i would do though is; ask myself if it would be worth my time or money to go to either game, it’s not that i don’t want to hang out with them,(shit i might not want to, if i’m tired), hopefully they would understand that.
here’s an other example: if a friend told me to go watch the new DragonBall Evolution movie, straight up i tell him fuck no!
i don’t belive in “friends no matter what”. if i don’t agree with what a friend is saying or doing, i let him know. i do know about you but my friends respect me for that.
i enjoy playing with friends also, but sometimes i want to find new challenges, new rivalries. and sometime when i play in a multiplayer i love that feeling i get knowing that i over came the odds, especially when when i see my psn id in the top 5 after a match.
ps Dragonball Evo sucks!
How do you listen to this when ther live

Torrence your comment about how you dont expect God Of War 3 to push big numbers made me laugh and at the same time want to reach through my laptop so I could smack you for saying that. Your only claim as to why this would happen is based off an FPS? When has the Playstation franchise ever been known for FPS’S? Alot of my friends didnt buy the game based on the fact that the game was first person. You also have to take into account that the first Killzone was a let down. So that alone I’m sure hurt sales.
I didn’t like this warzone. It just sounded like constant whining most the time.
hmmm one of the topics is Red Faction demo, I posted my opinion of the demo on thursday, hope I didn’t get blasted cuz i didn’t really like it… oh well I’m listening 2 the show tomorrow we shall see.
Glad Torrence is excited about a game but Red Faction did not impress me, JUDGING FROM THE DEMO, after playing Mercs 2 this game felt very very similar. You are a miner and you can smash buildings, which looks awesome. However didn’t I just say you’re a miner… but you cant smash the rock environment around you… strange. Also I didn’t like the way you change weapons, wish they would’ve just made R2 cover and the d-pad switch weapons like in RE5. The multiplayer will be pretty sweet but I just wasn’t impressed with the demo. Def a rent probably not a purchase.
Yes, if you leave Los Angeles without going to Roscoe’s you should be shot. But expect for it to be crowded, no matter what time you go. The one in Hollywood is a whole in the wall spot, but you will see alot of actors going to that one. The one on Pico, is bigger, and you will see rappers there. HHG may want to go to that one, he can do his gamers from the street west coast style. And if you are looking for a good burrito spot besides the taco trunks (great food), go down Figurera towards USC and there is this place i think its called Chanos. Great pastrami burritos. Dang, I need to go back home (L.A), and get into E3. I’ll be HHG’s camera man.
lol at torrence. somebody has never had their mind changed because of what somebody said on the internet before? lol. (torrence says this at 24:20 into the podcast)
evidence contradicting torrence’s statement lies in this link. it was written by angrypoolman (me) on april 16th.
http://www.thebitbag.com/2009/04/11/video-game-warzone-39/
wow, torrence. two warzones in a row that you get completely owned by somebody. there really isnt much to say about what i just dropped.
I wish that the new red faction was jus like the first one. They messed this one up.
Fuck sake you guys want to much all at once. Steady talking about sales and nonsense, how you want commercials, Sony is doing it all wrong? WTF is that? Nevermind that shit pick up your remote and get it in. Fuck worrying about where’s the commercials? why? howcome? fuck that shit you know, we know, fuck everyone else watching tv to see what system to buy or game. Everyone well do well and thats all there is to it. Worrying bout shit that is actually none of your or my business. If no one picks any of these systems there fucking loss man. As long as you get yours in.
@Lifendz,
Sales is the bottom line of ANY Industry, period! To some of us sales are important, I track sales of many industries, Marketing, Business, & Economics was my area of study in college.
No one is saying sales is the ultimate qualifier if a game is good or not, however, it is the culprit if the game gets a sequel or not. Some of the sales solutions talked about on the Warzone could be used to boost sales of a fans favorite game, why is it a crime to discuss those points. Sometimes people form various companies get their ideas from individuals on message boards & suggestion boxes.
Waraone 41 was great & I’m glad Torrence didn’t follow through on the ridiculous notion of banning sales talk.
Torrence I don’t know are you reading this comments but I have to say this since only today have I listened to the whole warzone. Your comment on religion and/or origin of the world was the single shallowest comment on that topic I have ever heard. If you said that to my face i would laugh my ass off all the way to home. I would have to say more on some other topics mentioned but I’m too lazy and I have to go play some basketball with my friends… (BBasher, that’s what you do with your friends…)
From week to week show is getting weaker and weaker. You talk about the same things over and over again(sales, why you prefer 360/ps3, ff 7 remake, sony`s marketing). Last week you said you dont want anybody to talk about sales in the next episodes, well…
Where is the new podcast, podcast #42?
