damn that pist me off lol, am just downloading it now, Can anyone please post the site over here because i dont know the spelling, i would appreciate it.

no i disagree with the whole netflix thing
to my understanding on netflex on the 360 you dont get new big movies most of the time
so why downgrade your movie choice instead of just getting movies sent in in the mail where you can get any movie.
but idk that just my opinion

When the guy asked about Killzone 2 not having an optional install. Alex didn’t even answer his question.
He was asking since at certain points in Killzone 2 appears to have pause and load “behind the scenes” why not allow an optional install. Is it because Guerrilla wants to just prove that they don’t NEED a hardware install to run? If there is noticeable loading or pauses I think an optional install should be an option.

People keep saying Microsoft is making all of this money, but I have to ask are they really making money when they are spending a lot on advertising and buying up exclusives.

Blu-ray in the PS3 isn’t only helping the games, but it’s also helping Sony’s Blu-ray movie division.
I don’t think people realize that Sony’s main goal wasn’t to be a gaming machine it was to help the blu-ray format.
I think Sony didn’t really get serious about selling games until the end of 2008. I think that 2009 will be good for Sony’s gaming division.
With HOME Sony is making even more money.

Netflix. lol When I am on my PS3 and watching a movie no one knows that I am watching movies.
Isn’t Netflix only available to Xbox LIVE Gold members? I don’t so inform me. lol
When I look at my friends list and see a lot of people in HOME it sometimes makes me want to see what’s going on in HOME.
360 and PS3 have their own selling points.

  • Static says:

Something popped into my mind during that podcast, regarding the netflix thing. Someone brought up blockbuster. It made me kinda think..

WHY does blockbuster support the 360 so much, if at all? Sure, they lose a bit of money, but only for a while. If they turned half the store into a blu-ray rental store, with ps3’s everywhere, wouldn’t both Sony AND blockbuster benefit?

Now I know that sounds a bit anti-xbox, but hear me out here.

The 360 is now providing a service that is in DIRECT competition with what blockbuster is all about. Now when you think about it– yes, they do make some money off those consoles, and game rentals as well. But.. Aren’t they basically trading in their own business at risk of customers never renting movies from there again? Shouldn’t they NOT be support xbox seeing as it’s main goal is the eliminate as much disc-based content as possible, that inludes the format movies are watched on? Last time I checked, bloxkbuster does not receive royalties or benefits from any netflix rentals, and I also hear that blockbuster’s online rental service is a sad attempt compared to netflix’s offerings. So isn’t that basically like throwing your competition more customers?

I dunno guys and girls, it was just a though. Does it make sense to promote something that could inadvertantly help off kill your business and eliminate the need for the service you offer?

Really though, do they still support HDVD anymore? No? Then why do they continue to strongly support it? You would think they would push the blu-ray format harder, as well as ps3’s and other cheaper blu-ray devices, seeing as that’s the next/current video format they’ll have to push.

But yeah, just to finish that thought. On one side, I see that they get software sales and stuff from the 360’s games, but is it worth udnermining you business model seeing as online videos are more popular now more than ever? Not to mention piracy?

Maybe I got it all wrong, but to me it just seems like going all out on the blu-ray end of things seems like it’s in a large movie rental chain’s best interest.

    What do u guys think?

Do you think they thought that over, or are they kinda unhappy about it now that the millions of xbox’s they helped sell now give their customers no need for their services?

Torrence, great show, i think the media should stop bashing the PS3, i remember back in 2005 and 2007 2 years of ps3 hate..

and about Resident evil, im a big big fan of resident evil, i played all 0,1,2, nemesis, cod veronica and4, but i will not buy resident evil 5 it dosen’t feel like the first 3 resident evils(the best IMO)

its like an action game more then a surviving horror game.

  • Samsamurai says:

oh and , BTW idon’t liked Dead space, it dose not have that good balanced btween ammunition and enemies, and i conceder it action game more then surviving horror game.

IMO best horror game this gen is Siren blood curse.

im from europe romania, and i would like to be on your podcast. maybe ull give you some european opinions, lol.

As long as their is a collective interest towards Valve, Blizzard, strategy games, emulators, indie games, and etcetera, I can’t see PC gaming dye.

Piracy is the main problem. It had always amazed me that so many people are willing to buy 360 without hesitation and pirate PC games with the same attitude. I am basing this statement due to my experience in college.

PC gaming will never die for me. StarCraft II and Empires: Total War looks too good to pass up. But those two games alone could last me for years.

Great podcast. There was some great debates even though ear_fly has some screws loose. Why is it that japan can’t be innovative anymore?First final fantasy, devil may cry and now resident evil?It seems Japan can’t make a profit off of a game unless it’s a sequel and when they do a sequel they don’t do anything mind blowing and innovative anymore. On top of that, the new IP’s they’ve come out with haven’t turned out that good.

    @METtAL-GAMER,

are you serious ? what about the Wii, wiimote? wiifit, that the most innovative things iv ever seen from japan.

oh and no innovation dose not mean the game isn’t FUN.

look at Resistance, gears , Cod 4, dead space and Farcry 2? those games didn’t do anything innovative, BUT they were great and FUN games.

Hi Torrence, great show as ever.
Let me add one comment. If you get chance to get some details on PS3 GPU and CPU cooperation that will be awesome. I was just looking for same couple of weeks ago and everything look as Sony is really silent about RSX details (don’t think tech details but how it working with Cell and SPUs). From what i find over net it looks as true power of PS3 isn’t in convention graphic processing as we know from PC or Xbox development where CPU preparing everything for GPU and than GPU processing all shaders, vertexes etc. It looks as with high speed connection between RSX and Cell SPUs they are somehow able to provide access of SPUs to GPU processing cycles and than use them to work as a part of GPU. If they using share memory than SPUs and RSX can work on same “frame” in same cycle and that sounds very promising. Also that should explain why they didn’t use installs because operations when HDD is use will be much slower. I guess that’s why they plan that 10 life cycle because before all devs will be able to use full potential of this architecture that will take some time. What’s great for us as a gamers is that developers will be pushed to learn new tricks and learn how to really use multi core systems. All current graphic in games using old opengl model from SGI which is 20 years old so yeah as someone mention on previous podcast we need new brains with different point of view.
    Hope it make a sense.

Wish you best and best regards from Europe (Czech Republic). Looks as your fans are all over the world :)
You guys doing Amazing job will need to connect to podcast chat sometime.

how do i get into the chat

  • METtAL-GAMER says:

    @Samsamurai

True, that was pretty innovative but I’m referring to Japan’s games and especially their RPG’s.All that shit is the same.Nothing really new or innovative.

  • INTERRERGATOR says:

    nice video torrence

  • METtAL-GAMER says:

Shit I forgot something.Alright back to Japan games. Why is Resident evil 5 the exact same thing as 4?Why is Final Fantasy 12 the exact same thing as 10?Now look at Drakols show. Why is it that most Japanese games aren’t up to par to american games and that they can only make money off of sequels? Why is it that the only companies doing good in Japan for next-gen games are Capcom and square? And guess what? Both those companies are just releasing sequels.Soul calibur, Tekken, Megaman, devil may cry, final fantasy, resident evil etc.Square tried some new IP’s and they didn’t do very well.

  • Samsamurai says:

    @METtAL-GAMER, ok

as RPG, go pick up Valkyria chronicles, it has some innovation combat system, it feels very fresh, its my best RPG game this gen.

    and its a JRPG.

  • METtAL-GAMER says:

Valkyria cronicles looks great, new and refreshing and a much needed title for Sega. It’s about time they get a good game out. From the demo it looks really good but It’s not really my kind of game.I’m not really into the whole anime thing but I’m glad Japan finally got a new IP that’s actually good plus it’s also very innovatiive and feels very fresh.Your right, a game doesn’t have to innovate but it should advance further than the last part of a sequel. It really pisses me off that every god damn final fantasy game is the same and that they haven’t had a good one since 10.What is that, 10 or so years ago?Resident evil didn’t have to innovate but it should of done something to make it different that 4.It looks very stiff and that shouldn’t be the case for a horror game. You should be going all over the place running for your life or something.

  • chase167 says:

    ill take a new game
    free DLC is good

  • chase167 says:

HEY Torrence FUCK A $5 COUPON
    MAKE IT A $20 COUPON
    AND YOUR SITE WILL CRASH

  • Samsamurai says:

About , final fantasy game is the same and that they haven’t had a good one since 10, yes i agree with you, yes and resident evil 5 its not different from resident evil 4 as gameplay. btw i won’t buy Resident evil 5, it dose not have the atmosphere that the old Re1,2 had and its not scary, its seems an action game.

  • VaddixBell says:

Excellent episode guys, my internet was fucked up and it took ages to download, but I stayed up for ages just to get it on my MP3 and listen to it!

I was disappointed in Resident Evil 5 as well, the controls fell outdated and John Shaw, Resident Evil 4 was excellent, but in the time, so many games have showed how 3rd Person action/survival horror games should play. Videogame mechanics can become outdated as well.

Chris has had military/combat training, it’s expected that he can walk and reload a gun at the same time. The reason they won’t change it, is because if they did, then they would have to beef up the AI because the game would be too easy and that would be too much work. It was talked about on IW on GT ages ago.
Japanese gamers aren’t use to using that right thumb stick and it’s things like that holding the franchise back.

    That’s my 2 cents.

DLC is great but as long as it doesn’t feel like we’re being cheated, then it’s gonna be a great practice and a great incentive for gamers to pick up games with the prospect of more content coming in the future.

    Anyway, regards from Ireland!
