And the PS3 gets better again. Firmware 2.60 will be released tomorrow and will add Photo Gallery, guest PSN store access and a new Dixv update. Here’s the skinny:
PS3 Firmware Update 2.60 Adds Photo Gallery Application
Sony Computer Entertainment America (SCEA) today announced details of the next
system software update (v. 2.60) for PLAYSTATION®3 (PS3™), which includes
several new features designed to enhance the PS3 system’s entertainment
functionality. The system software update 2.60 will become available on January
21and deliver a new Photo Gallery application, enabling consumers to better organize
and view their photos stored on PS3 system. Other new features include DivX 3.11
video support and PlayStation®Store guest browsing.Through the Photo Gallery application, it will be easier than ever for users to sort
through and enjoy their photo collections stored on their PS3 systems. Digital
photos can be organized in groups according to various criteria, including the
camera used to take the photos, the event date and time, colors in the photos, as
well as the number, ages, or facial expressions of the people pictured. Once their
photos are grouped, consumers can then search and view them using the grouping
categories and create slideshows set to music, displaying specific photo playlists
or photos pulled from grouped categories. In addition to the Photo Gallery, firmware 2.60 provides guest access to PlayStation
Store, enabling non-PlayStation®Network members to browse the storefront’s
downloadable content, including games, game trailers, and demos, along with more
than 4,200 movies and TV shows. The system software update 2.60 will also upgrade PS3 system’s video
capability to support DivX 3.11 media files. Videos in DivX format continue to be
popular due to the ability to compress large video files, while maintaining
relatively high visual quality.

Cool but i dont like dealing with pictures but still its a pretty awesome feature. This PS Store acess for non-PSN users are made for either people who dont go online or banned users lol
This update is cool, but Sony really needs to get off their ass and hook up a xbox live type of network. This is getting ridiculous already. Im sick and tired of Sony already.
Damn.
Where’s in game chat or new avatars for PSN… this is bad.
I’ve been waiting for in game chat for so long and what’s with like 5 games (I know it’s more but there isn’t many) games that support custom music…
Come on Sony, in game chat please.
Oh, I want PSN to be more like Live where you can see what your friends are doing… like
Killzone 2
Playing Search and Destroy on BADASS MAP 8
More stuff like that… and more personal spaces to write profiles… not like 35 characters!
That’s what I want.
dude just play xbox
I will give my ps3 some kudos though. They make good enough games so that you dont necessarily have to depend on cross game chat. Seriously. If any friend that wants to talk to me while Im playing Killzone 2 should either already be in my game, coming to join my party, or they could just delete me off of their friends list.
DivX 3.11 support FTW.
ya i dont want to be talking over psn really unless its about in game tactics with other team mates, not much of a social person irl let alone whilst trying to play games, however so many people have asked about having cross game chat i think that sony should give it them
doubt i’ll use the picture stuff, but ya i like the divx functionality
