Sony just sent out an interesting email that we’ve seen lots of rigz post on N4g and forums alike. It’s a comparison of the PS3 value against the 360 and the Wii. Now this comes straight from Sony and while it’s familiar to all of us, I’m glad to see Sony finally putting it out there for future customers. Wow this year is going to be great.
Keeping Gaming and Entertainment Simple
The 2008 holiday season was an exciting time for video gaming and the Blu-ray side of the interactive entertainment industry, and 2009 promises to follow suit. As consumers continue to invest in their entertainment needs this new year, the feature sets of the three multi-functional gaming systems — PLAYSTATION 3, Xbox 360 and Wii — become that much more important to consider.
PLAYSTATION 3 has always been about streamlining the gaming and entertainment experience by giving consumers the most features and functionality out of the box, there is no immediate need to upgrade anything to get a rich entertainment experience, as the console comes standard with:
- Built in Blu-ray drive for HD movies and mind-blowing games
- Built in Wi-Fi for wireless gaming and Internet access
- Huge hard drives for storing games, movies, music photos and more
- Free online gaming and entertainment access through PSN
- Ten year’s of value with a future-proof system via firmware updates that offer new services and features
The Xbox 360 and Wii offer a set of features in their own right. However, when you take a look at the feature offerings side by side, there is only one true winner in delivering total value and price.
We’ve compared the lowest entry points from each manufacturer — PS3 80GB – $399, Xbox 360 Arcade – $199, Wii – $249.

The PS3 is the perfect example of a product featuring superior technology and a sophisticated design creating an ideal all-in-one entertainment product. The Xbox 360 requires additional money, multiple upgrades and additional external devices, putting a burden on the wallet and adds clutter to the entertainment center. And the Wii’s lack of enhanced features comes at the expense of a comprehensive entertainment solution. So as PS3 continues to evolve without the need for additional parts or expenses, expect the competition to continue peddling add-ons in an effort to keep up with the Jones’.

Yo….
Needs to keep that price simple, and I have two heh. Didn’t really learned anthing new here though.
Actually sony is wrong. The features the ps3 has that the 360 does are addons. Not every user needs or wants bluray, not everyone wants to game over wifi. Hdd is a different story and should cost no more than 50 on a 360 ,thats the only bad thing about the 360. HDMI is on all 360s i believe and$3.25 a month for live isnt a great expense. If you ask me thsi is a attempt to get some help. Its like waving the white flag” not that im saying they are or should” it just sounds a little pathetic. On launch day i see thsi comparision as good but 2-3 years into it i think its sad.
the ps3 does offer alot and if the they didnt have such a hard competition and backlash from people i dont think the ps3 would be 399.With that said sony did want to make the ps3 as a suite of features / hardware like an all in one where MS went with buy as you need or want.

when you break xbox live down by a monthly fee yeah its not as expensive
but we arent paying that price monthly.
It makes no sense to say “oh we are only paying X amount per month”
when you go into the store you drop $50. you cant ask to just pay $3,25 a month.
stop saying your paying that amount because no one is. if you could pay that much a month it would be different.
oh my god! I am so sick and tired of every one complaining about 50 bucks. I could see if it was 50 bucks a month then there would be something to complain about. But its 50 bucks a year if that is too steep for you then you need to go back to your old console and don’t upgrade. No matter how you break it down and how you go about it, its 50 bucks a year, a year, 12 months, if that is expensive to you then i dont know why you game. You pay 60 bucks every time a game title comes out and probally on average play it only for 2 to 3 months. Gaming is not going to get cheaper so if that is steep for you, you might want to quit gaming. 50 BUCKS A YEAR IS NOT EXPENSIVE, little kids make more then that selling lemonade, or cutting grass on a weekend so quit bitching an get a job.
for the record u can pay it monthy with cards. also its only 40 bucks now
it’s not $40.00
it’s $59.99 regularly
There are sometimes sales on Amazon.ca for us Canadian like right now its $47.99
IM sry i was going by the holidy price .It was 39.99 us for the past few months because of specials. But normally herein us it is 49
… and a PS3 is only around $33 a month.
Put simply. Sony wants the PS3 to last even longer than the PS2, and i believe it will as more people upgrade to HDTV’s over the coming years.
Microsoft’s next console will have everything the PS3 has now. But a bit more ‘amped’ up.
.. also MS will be in a similar position that Sony is in now. New hardware on the market .etc.. etc..
It’s all about longevity.
Sony has the same games as it’s comp.
Better media hub than it’s comp.
Brighter/longer future than it’s comp.
Money will be made. It’s about staying inside peoples minds.
When you think of cola. What do you think of?
Pepsi & Coke. Not Shasta.
You have a cold, you sneeze. Kleenex.
ETC .. ETC ..
It’s so obvious, it’s ridiculous.
$33.00 a month?
It’s free to play online against other players, Free like it’s been with most games on the PC (Minus MMO’s) and they have updates every Thursday with new shit on the PS3 store.
I wish Microsoft would do the same and have free online, Silver could play online for free but would lose out on Party Chat, cross game invites, demos would come out later ….Just make online gaming Free because most of the time Microsoft is NOT hosting the servers for specific games, the company’s who made the games are hosting them.
$33 a month for 1 year equals the price of a PS3.
Give or take.
Ok, 1st off…! You can “ALWAYS” find the 12+1 month cards for 40 bucks or less. Always..! Just google search it and boom you got like for under 40 bucks. Not just during the holidays always. http://www.google.com/products?q=xbox+360+12+month+live+cards&show=li&scoring=p
Not to mention the PS3’s online community sucks balls. I say over 80% of the time I get online over the PSN barely anyone has or uses a mic so forget useing team tactics with strangers cause you won’t get a peep of voice communication. And why can’t I invite a friends to play a game right from my XMB..ooooops.. I won’t go there. My bad.? LoL
Now even though you can always get a used WiFi adaptor from Gamestop for 69.99 “ALWAYS” mind you not on sale?! You can not stream full HD video from your PC to the PS3 with out buffering and/or lag issues over WiFi because you need the higher 802.11 a/n to do this and the the 360 WiFi adaptor does do this and this is not just some rambling of a fanboy this is just plain FACT I do HD streaming from my PC to the 360 all the time I can only stream SD to my PS3 via WiFi. So you see the WiFi adaptor for the 360 is made for HD streaming from a network device over wireless connections.
BluRay – I won’t even start on how that makes no difference in my gaming taste “what so ever” I play both systems just fine and I don’t give a grap if it was a BluRay or a full Downloaded game it’s all the same to me.
Oh and HDMI every single system for the last half year has the HDMI and everyone one from that point has an HDMI port..so that is just a stupid point. The point is that it’s there now on every system nuff said.
Also one last point..doesn’t everyone know by now (i guess SONY didn’t get the memo) For every Arcade 360 purchased you just need to go to the website and purchase a 29.99 bundle from Microsoft which includes 20Gb HDD, 3 months of Live! http://www.xbox.com/en-US/hardware/hddoffer/default.htm Even though the site claims for a limited time this has been up for many months now. So I guess it’s untill all 20Gb HDDs are gone.
While it might seem like your getting a better deal with the PS3 off the jump I feel the experience that XBL offers us gamers is by far priceless and nothing on the market can come any where close to the experience of Live!
I rather pay for a great online experience than get some hand me down online service that is hit or miss with finding others with the same tastes and/or with a freakin headset,,lmfao..Peace out peoplezzzzzzzzzz
