Street Fighter IV Gets Top Notch Multiplatform Collector’s Editions

Wow. In my entire life of video gaming I have never bought a special edition game. NEVER. After seeing the SFIV goods that Capcom just sent me, I’m seriously considering plopping down $80 for the collector’s edition. In fact, I’m nutty enough to spend $160 on both the PS3 and 360 versions. I seriously think this is the only collector’s edition in gaming history that is worth having. Feast your eyes on these screenshots and then look at the list of goods.

$60M in Blu-Ray Sales Last Week

This data is from a website called Blu-ray. It is not an official Blu-ray site. It actually looks like a commercial site. Their source is Home Media Magazine, but I cannot find the article on the original site. Thanks to N4G for this tip.

According to Home Media Magazine, consumers spent over $60M on Blu-ray titles last week, representing 14% of the home media market. The 167% spike is due in large part to the Blu-ray release of ‘The Dark Knight’, which is breaking Blu-ray sales records around the world. Comparatively, the previous week, where ‘Wanted’ was the hot new release, consumers spent $23.64M on Blu-ray.

On the year in whole, consumers have spent nearly $500M on Blu-ray titles, and the average spent per week has been growing as adoption continues to rise.

No Price Cut for PS3 Anytime Soon (At Least in Europe)

Some of you may have been privy to a heated discussion on our site about the health of the PS3 as a console. HipHopGamer and the rest of the editors at The Bitbag have been clamoring for a price cut. No confirmation regarding any cuts in the US for the year 2009, but it looks like Europe will not be seeing any cuts in the near future. Here’s an interview of SCEE President David Reeves done by UK game news outlet MCV:

“Action Station”
2008 was a key year for PS3 software releases such as Metal Gear Solid and LittleBigPlanet. Michael French speaks to SCEE boss David Reeves to find out his views on the state of the PlayStation business and Sony’s plans for 2009…

Resistance 2 Review

Here it is at long last! My Resistance 2 Review.  I must admit that when Resistance 1 was launched for PS3 I did not pick up a copy, I was too knee deep in other games and shooters and never really gave the franchise a chance.  But during my visit to E3 2008 and a chance to check out Resistance 2 I had to ask myself, “How could I not have picked up a copy of Resistance 1?”…

NY to Tax DLC

Wow. This sucks for HipHopGamer and anyone who lives in New York. So says GameDaily:

New York Governor David Paterson today proposed a series of new taxes in order to make up for a $15.4 billion budget deficit. Among the proposed fees is a measure called the “iPod tax” that would cover downloadable music, movies and other services. This would affect gamers by taxing downloadable content from games for the first time in New York history.

Sonic’s Ultimate Genesis Collection coming.

Well, after the very interesting Sonic Unleashed game, it seems Sega has decided to back track their steps and release retro Sonic games in one package for next generation consoles, PS3 and 360. Here’s the inform, straight from Sega:

SEGA® of America, Inc. has released all new assets of the upcoming game Sonic’s Ultimate Genesis Collection™ for PLAYSTATION® 3 and Xbox 360® video game system!

This week’s blast from the past is Comix Zone and the Golden Axe Series!

Just a few fun facts from these classic titles:

- Comix Zone’s score was composed by Howard Drossin, who previously wrote the music to Sonic The Hedgehog™ 3 and Sonic & Knuckles™.

- Golden Axe™ II was a SEGA Genesis™ exclusive title and it didn’t originate as an arcade game.

- Golden Axe™ III was originally released only in Japan. The release on this compilation is the first time it is available in stores in the U.S. and Europe.
