Well now that some shit right there. Google with this instantly steps in the gaming arena. I wonder what the fuck those mother fuckin yuppies have up their sleeves?

  • Bullywithafully01 says:

This is just the first of many right here. Gaming is getting so big there is going to be lots of companies jumping in trying to cash in on the game industry.

  • BenGilbert says:

This RUMOR was totally debunked already today by Doug Lombardi of Valve Software. Check out the MTV Multiplayer blog. And do some research next time, for fuck’s sake.

  • Candid Anthony says:

    Hey BenGilbert,

If you didn’t notice the story was from cnet. Did you post the same comment on Digg.com and the many other sites that did the same? You might want to relax for fuck’s sake.

  • BenGilbert says:

I did notice that. I also noticed it on Digg. What a blogger does is copy/paste/link, what a journalist does is investigate. I’m relaxed, just disappointed. I didn’t think The Bitbag would have such low standards. You could have gone all the way crazy and done something as simple as a google search. Let’s go one step further and say you e-mail Doug Lombardi yourself for comment. I know, I know, this all just sounds crazy. I’m a crazy guy, what can I say?

  • Doug emails me at least once a week. I didn’t think this was news worthy enough to investigate. Sure enough, Doug smashed the rumor.

I pretty much deal with all of the industry contacts. My rule for the editors here is if the news hits more than 3 websites, don’t even bother posting it. Sometimes we post stuff that actually is already out. Sometimes we are 1st, 2nd or 3rd.

Either way, it’s nothing to get upset about.

And to correct you on the whole blogger/journalist thing, a journalist can blog and a blogger can be a journalist. A blog is a tool for sharing information on the internet. So to correct you, a blogger does many things, not just copy/paste/link. But even if you are a journalist and you get information from another source, you have to give credit to that source. That’s called being professional and Candid gave credit to the source he got the info from.

If you want original content from us, we have plenty. Just check the g-Ripe, Videtorial and Review categories. You could also watch many of our original shows and videos or listen to our podcasts.

So don’t be disappointed, just stay tuned.

    Thanks for posting.

    Torrence

  • BenGilbert says:

What you say regarding the definitions of blogger and journalist are quite true. My point in stating what I did was to say he was being a blogger and not using his journalist hat. I appreciate The Bitbag for having original content and not just following suit with everyone else, which is exactly why I was so disappointed to see this completely misleading and false headline popping up in my Reader.

And it is something to get upset about. Not even updating this post is a problem. How many people are going to read this and not investigate themselves? More importantly, how many are going to read this, know it’s totally wrong, and not come back? It’s a question of thoroughness and professionalism. As “game journalists”, it’s often acceptable to take the press releases and postings on other sites and simply repeat them. Here’s a case where that exact phenomena has occurred and it’s being excused.

I’m staying tuned, hopefully to find out this kind of shit won’t happen again.

I think ive found my new Dark Power.

  • Bullywithafully01 says:

If you feel so deeply about it go start your own blog and do it in your so called right way. You are making a big deal out of nothing. Its not going to change how you game, its not going to change you as a person(hopefully not) and it sure the fuck aint putting no money in your pocket so stop giving a fuck so much and get a life. Nobody is perfect and people make mistakes this is not the only site that made a mistake they do it on the news, newspapers, magazines etc its not a big deal. exp when its not a life changing article.

  • Candid Anthony says:

I’m not a journalist. I never claimed to be one. I have a full time job, this is a fucking hobby. I saw a report on cnet saying that Valve was being bought by Google. Its not like cnet is someone elses blog, id say they are pretty reputable. I saw the story and posted and linked it for our viewers. The story did not say the deal was done, so who gives a fuck if it got debunked. I don’t have time to call up Doug Lombardi, who BTW is not going to tell me shit anyway. If reporters didnt print anything each time a PR person told them a rumor was false nothing would be reported.

If you don’t like it gtfo and go read the new york times or the wall street journal.
