“If Siskel and Ebert gave The Dark Knight two thumbs down would you not go see it? What ever happened to using our own judgement when it comes to YOUR means of entertainment?!?!”

i see what you’re saying but think about it…..movie is about $10

a game will set you back $60 so yeah i think a couple of people saying its bad would worry me a bit.
id probably rent it first but if a bunch of my friends were saying a game was really bad then i wouldnt run out and buy it

  • xboxerforman says:

Honestly, the demo totally sucked and I wont buy this game, maybe rent it if there was absolutely nothing else better. I agree that you should make up your mind about things but does that mean I have to go out and try every game that comes out. 75% + games are garbage and it would be unreasonable to buy/rent them all. Most reviews are not purely subjective offering some objectivity within. A good strategy is to read several reviews and look for consistencies For instance most reviewers seem to agree that the game play is repetitive, the graphics suck and there are too many glitches. That and the lame demo are enough to put me off. The only thing that would make me play this game would be if someone I know (who’s opinion I trust) says that the game was actually good. On top of that with all the great games coming out this christmas who would even think of wasting their money on this game when fallout 3, gears2, fable 2 resident evil 5 etc. are coming out.

^^^agreed. although i dont have an xbox i play it at my friends house since im the only one that has a ps3. and from what i played in the demo. id pass. i would rather play gears…though i suck at it hah

  • Zed says:

I played the demo before making a judgement, being a 360/PS3/Wii true-gamer, and while it may not be representative of the full game, i had already decided to wait for it to hit the bargain bins. Seeing the spate of reviewers comments on issues i feel would concern me has just reinforced that opinion.

“What’s worse is the PS3 fanboys … disrespect Dyack”

While i would try to avoid commenting on someone i didnt know to a degree, i must admit the comments Denis Dyack has put about (see the Eurogamer interview for example) just come across as arrogant and blinded by ego. Maybe he does believe in his product that much, however i think a large section of gamers who actually play the game are going to disagree with his vision. Just IMO of course.

  • Zed says:

Ugh – double posty goodness – i should add that i didnt think the demo was bad, just not as progressive as hyped. The skill set isnt that deep, it looks comparable to the Baldur’s Gate PS2 games, and basically a 3D sci-fi remake on those in gameplay – but with less character class differences, and stupider AI. I do like dungeon crawlers, but not at £45 / us$84.

    Woohoo…

I played the demo, and I liked it. Today I went to gamestop and ordered my copy, I get it tomorrow, can’t wait. For the record i’m having fun playing Lair atm, but the controls are a bit odd.

  • dongalos says:

from what i’ve read it seems Dyack has been pretty aggressive and arrogant on those forums for quite some time and people are surprised it didn’t happen sooner with how much insults he threw around

He got banned for insulting the forum actually

And what’s funny about fanboism is now we’ll have people who are pro neogaf and anti neogaf LOL just like PS3 vs xbox 360 or Christian vs muslim or Phoenix Suns vs San Antonio Spurs

Man it’s totally human nature it seems to pick a side and…atheist/religious …..sony/microsoft and run with it…

  • AlclayPS3 says:

Well, when it comes to PS3 fanboys bashing Too Human, there is some built up resentment after 360 fanboys bashed Lair and HAZE to death and I guess it’s just a little payback. I’m not trying to justify their actions, I’m just calling it how I see it.

I myself am a dedicated Playstation gamer and I have yet to say anything negative about Too Human on N4G though.

Lair got terrible reviews and I liked the game. I bought Lair without even reading a single review because nothing was stopping me from getting the game no matter what and when I found out how low it scored I almost couldn’t believe it.

I think that Too Human is just one of those “Love it or Hate It” type games because there’s some reviews that are more favorable, but the majority of the reviews are pretty low or just pretty average scores.

With cases like Too Human, it’s better to just play the demo or rent the game to decide if you want it.

Even though reviews are pretty much just an opinion of what someone else thinks, game reviews are very important to people because new games on the 360/PS3 are 60 bucks and reviews mean a LOT now-a-days. Back in the PS1 and PS2 era, a video game review meant hardly anything at all to me, but now it’s like they mean everything.

  • Candid Anthony says:

“but now it’s like they mean everything.”

Poor Poor sheep… Here lies the exact reason why companies pay for good reviews.

IGN, GAME INFORMER, if you think these companies are giving non biased reviews I got a bridge to sell you.

Deciding to buy a game based on a review is just wow… Rather than dive in and buy a game for 60$ because the review was good why not try it for 5$ and make the ultimate choice.

  • XanderZane says:

I had no intention on running out and buying Too Human to begin. As the game have had its share of problems over that last 8 years. If it takes that long to actually get a game onto retail shelves (even 3 years is too long), chances are good it’s not going to be that great. Too Human has received pretty average scores all around. I haven’t played the demo yet, but by analyzing the reviews, you can pretty much tell that this game isn’t going to be for everyone like the developers had hoped. I will usually try the demo or rent a game that has scored this low rather then running out and buying it blindly. Even though you can’t always agree with reviews (“Jumper” did get great reviews, but I liked it), we can make smart judgement on whether a game is worth a purchase or not.
