Fanboys Are Too Bitter For Too Human
by Torrence DavisThe madness has ensued today on the internet. The reviews are in and the major gaming sites and blogs are giving us the numbers on Too Human. It’s been getting fair ratings and Playstation fanboys are having a field day. It seems that there is a bitter taste left in their mouths from Xbox fanboys bashing Haze to death. The worst part of all of this madness is reading that people are now waiting for bargain bin copies of the game because of the review scores they are seeing.
Hello out there!? Since when does it make sense to change your opinion of a game because of some twit’s review score on a website? I’ve seen a lot of people having second thoughts of purchasing this game because of a few opinions of the internet press. Didn’t these people download the demo and determine whether they liked the game or not? If Siskel and Ebert gave The Dark Knight two thumbs down would you not go see it? What ever happened to using our own judgement when it comes to YOUR means of entertainment?!?!
What’s worse is the PS3 fanboys striking back because they are bitter about Lair and Haze and so on. They are piling up in full force on the forums and N4G to slam TH and disrespect Dyack. Most of the PS3 fanboys never played the game but they are still saying that it’s a bad game. How can you call a game bad if you’ve never played it? It doesn’t end there. The 360 fanboys who have played the game are ripping it apart too.
Everyone seems to have an opinion which is fine, but seriously, Too Human isn’t that bad of a game. How many dungeon crawlers are available on next gen platforms? Not many at all. This game has a skill tree as deep as World Of Warcraft and loot to boot. The gameplay is unique and the graphics ARE good. It’s not without it’s problems but what game isn’t? What were people expecting?
For those who keep saying that the game was in development for 10yrs, please kiss my chocolate starfish. The game has touched several platforms. If it started on the 360 it wouldn’t have taken 10 years. The game went from the Playstation to the Gamecube and finally onto the 360 in 2005. So realistically, it’s been in development for 3 years. Get your facts straight.
Dyack recently got banned from NeoGaf and I’ll tell you what, I think it’s awesome that he was posting there. If it were my forum, I’d let him speak. How often do you get a developer to share his opinion on a forum with thousands of other gamers? The mods at NeoGaf are abusing their power. Dyack didn’t break the rules. Fuck NeoGaf!
This whole Too Human drama is getting out of hand and I have one thing to say to the True Gamers out there. If you played the demo and you liked it, go spend your money and enjoy it. Stop using reviews as a means to determine whether or not you should by a game. A review is simply an opinion of one person. Use your own judgement and your own experience to determine whether or not a game is for you. Heavenly Sword got the same treatment and it is still to this day one of my favorite PS3 games. Lair is also on my radar as I pick up a few gems here and there. Fuck review scores and fuck the people that use them as a tool of measuring a game. Last but not least, fuck fanboys!

“If Siskel and Ebert gave The Dark Knight two thumbs down would you not go see it? What ever happened to using our own judgement when it comes to YOUR means of entertainment?!?!”
i see what you’re saying but think about it…..movie is about $10
a game will set you back $60 so yeah i think a couple of people saying its bad would worry me a bit.
id probably rent it first but if a bunch of my friends were saying a game was really bad then i wouldnt run out and buy it
Honestly, the demo totally sucked and I wont buy this game, maybe rent it if there was absolutely nothing else better. I agree that you should make up your mind about things but does that mean I have to go out and try every game that comes out. 75% + games are garbage and it would be unreasonable to buy/rent them all. Most reviews are not purely subjective offering some objectivity within. A good strategy is to read several reviews and look for consistencies For instance most reviewers seem to agree that the game play is repetitive, the graphics suck and there are too many glitches. That and the lame demo are enough to put me off. The only thing that would make me play this game would be if someone I know (who’s opinion I trust) says that the game was actually good. On top of that with all the great games coming out this christmas who would even think of wasting their money on this game when fallout 3, gears2, fable 2 resident evil 5 etc. are coming out.
^^^agreed. although i dont have an xbox i play it at my friends house since im the only one that has a ps3. and from what i played in the demo. id pass. i would rather play gears…though i suck at it hah
I played the demo before making a judgement, being a 360/PS3/Wii true-gamer, and while it may not be representative of the full game, i had already decided to wait for it to hit the bargain bins. Seeing the spate of reviewers comments on issues i feel would concern me has just reinforced that opinion.
“What’s worse is the PS3 fanboys … disrespect Dyack”
While i would try to avoid commenting on someone i didnt know to a degree, i must admit the comments Denis Dyack has put about (see the Eurogamer interview for example) just come across as arrogant and blinded by ego. Maybe he does believe in his product that much, however i think a large section of gamers who actually play the game are going to disagree with his vision. Just IMO of course.
Ugh - double posty goodness - i should add that i didnt think the demo was bad, just not as progressive as hyped. The skill set isnt that deep, it looks comparable to the Baldur’s Gate PS2 games, and basically a 3D sci-fi remake on those in gameplay - but with less character class differences, and stupider AI. I do like dungeon crawlers, but not at £45 / us$84.
Woohoo…
I played the demo, and I liked it. Today I went to gamestop and ordered my copy, I get it tomorrow, can’t wait. For the record i’m having fun playing Lair atm, but the controls are a bit odd.
from what i’ve read it seems Dyack has been pretty aggressive and arrogant on those forums for quite some time and people are surprised it didn’t happen sooner with how much insults he threw around
He got banned for insulting the forum actually

And what’s funny about fanboism is now we’ll have people who are pro neogaf and anti neogaf LOL just like PS3 vs xbox 360 or Christian vs muslim or Phoenix Suns vs San Antonio Spurs
Man it’s totally human nature it seems to pick a side and…atheist/religious …..sony/microsoft and run with it…
Well, when it comes to PS3 fanboys bashing Too Human, there is some built up resentment after 360 fanboys bashed Lair and HAZE to death and I guess it’s just a little payback. I’m not trying to justify their actions, I’m just calling it how I see it.
I myself am a dedicated Playstation gamer and I have yet to say anything negative about Too Human on N4G though.
Lair got terrible reviews and I liked the game. I bought Lair without even reading a single review because nothing was stopping me from getting the game no matter what and when I found out how low it scored I almost couldn’t believe it.
I think that Too Human is just one of those “Love it or Hate It” type games because there’s some reviews that are more favorable, but the majority of the reviews are pretty low or just pretty average scores.
With cases like Too Human, it’s better to just play the demo or rent the game to decide if you want it.
Even though reviews are pretty much just an opinion of what someone else thinks, game reviews are very important to people because new games on the 360/PS3 are 60 bucks and reviews mean a LOT now-a-days. Back in the PS1 and PS2 era, a video game review meant hardly anything at all to me, but now it’s like they mean everything.
“but now it’s like they mean everything.”
Poor Poor sheep… Here lies the exact reason why companies pay for good reviews.
IGN, GAME INFORMER, if you think these companies are giving non biased reviews I got a bridge to sell you.
Deciding to buy a game based on a review is just wow… Rather than dive in and buy a game for 60$ because the review was good why not try it for 5$ and make the ultimate choice.
I had no intention on running out and buying Too Human to begin. As the game have had its share of problems over that last 8 years. If it takes that long to actually get a game onto retail shelves (even 3 years is too long), chances are good it’s not going to be that great. Too Human has received pretty average scores all around. I haven’t played the demo yet, but by analyzing the reviews, you can pretty much tell that this game isn’t going to be for everyone like the developers had hoped. I will usually try the demo or rent a game that has scored this low rather then running out and buying it blindly. Even though you can’t always agree with reviews (”Jumper” did get great reviews, but I liked it), we can make smart judgement on whether a game is worth a purchase or not.
