Red Alert 3 skipping PS3 due to ‘exotic and tough’ development.
by Candid Anthony
Apparently, developing games for the PlayStation 3 is roughly comparable to that one time we pushed a wheelbarrow full of lovely, scantily clad ladies up and down the beach — “exotic and tough.” Speaking to VideoGamer.com, EALA producer Amer Ajami used those words to elaborate on the decision to halt PS3 development of the Hitler-free real-time strategy romp, Command & Conquer: Red Alert 3.
“We actually announced a PS3 version early on but that was when we were still doing a lot of technical exploration of the architecture,” explained Ajami. “PS3 is a very powerful system but as you guys know it’s very exotic and tough to develop for and our engine really at the time wasn’t designed for PS3.” Couch commanders need not give up all hope, though, as Ajami notes EA “might go back and do something with the PS3 later on.” Also just like that time we pushed a wheelbarrow full of lovely, scantily clad ladies up and down the beach. EA is stupid if the don’t release this game sometime down the road on the PS3. Base on their this past year finical record, they made more money on the ps3, than any other consoles.
i thought we were all passed this tough ps3 developement thing.it’s been 19 months and they still are too lazy to even try too develop for the ps3, well it’s only gonna hurt them because sales for that game will drop by probably 25-50 percent.
I am actually really looking forward to this game, I LOVED RA2. I saw this at E3 and thought it looked great.
Now, a company like EA ignoring PS3 for a popular game like this is just stupid. But no matter what you say or think this is a problem Sony needed to address and obviously didn’t.
I know most people will say, thats a sorry excuse that its hard to develop for. I agree. But when a company like EA isnt willing to shell out the cash when they have so much, it means they are not too worried about it.
Sad part for me is some of my friends that I know are into Red Alert dont have a 360 yet. But sounds like the decision is being made for me this time.
I do not like RTS games at ALL and I really could care less about Red Alert 3 not coming to the PS3.
I remeber renting a Red Alert PS1 game a long time ago, and I played it for about 15 minutes and took it back to the video store, I just don’t like RTS games.
They probably could develop the game for the PS3 if they put the time and money into it, but obviously it’s something they don’t want to do. But in my opinion, it takes a talented video game studio to develop games for the PS3.
I remember that Kojima said that the first 2 years of development for MGS4 was just trial and error, and figuring out what worked and what didn’t.
But, once a developer can make a game for the PS3, it’s pretty much smooth sailing when it comes to them developing future PS3 games, and a good example of that is Insomniac. Insomniac released Resistance in 2006, Rachet and Clank Future Toos of Destruction in 2007, and now Insomniac is coming out with Resistance 2 this year in 2008.
Um eveyong knows RTS sux on consoles anyhow. so I doubt many C&C fans will lose sleep over it not being on PS3 when im sure they will get it for Pc. No rts to date has felt as good on a console compared to the PC. didn’y surpreme comander just fail horribly not to long ago on 360. and that was Great game on the PC
RTS are perfect for the ps3 considering that you can use a Mouse and Keyboard on the ps3
There are a lot of good titles on ps3. I’m left wondering how talented their development team is. This is just my opinion. What do you guys think? Do you guys feel like we should be past all of this by now?
