E3 Microsoft Press Conference Updates (Lee’s perspective)
by Lee YiLooks like their wrapping up. Don is on stage. Holy crap. Prez of Square/Enix, Yoichi Wada. No translator. Infinite Undiscovery (Sep 2008). Star Ocean (Spring 2009). Last Remnant (Holiday 2008). Last Remnant trailer. Is this FF for Xbox? Coming to PC as well. Wada making another surprise announcement. Holy crap. FF for Xbox! OMG! Here begins the Fanboy Wars! I have never been an FF fan, but my body cannot stop trembling. Click after the break to review all of the updates. Check back at 3 PM PST for EA live updates.
Shane back on stage to talk about Rock Band 2. Alex Rigopulos (Harmonix CEO/President) on stage. 84 songs on disc (all with masters). Guns N Roses to debut on Rock Band 2. Bob Dylan to release first music on a game ever on RB2. AC/DC also first time ever on a video game. All downloads from first game will work on sequel.
Showing some kind of karaoke game. Lips from creator of Elite Beat Agents and Guitaroo, Keiichi Yano. It will allow you to sing from your own music collection. You can stick your MP3 player in the Xbox. New motion-sensitive mics with status lights. Some girl named Duffy singing. Okay. Can we move on to the next thing? Not much of a performer. When is this conference going to be over? I have to go to lunch.
Red Octane president Kai Huang on stage now. Doh. GTR site down. Over 80 songs including three exclusive REM songs from their new album. Metallica full album to release for GHIII then GHWT. Eagles and Van Halen to be exclusive to GHWT.
Shane Kim on stage. Banjo trailer. Viva Pinata trailer. New SceneIt. Weird You’re In the Movies game that uses Xbox camera. It’s really sad that Shane is just making a fool out of Don and John. Genavieve now to make a fool out of herself. Heheh. Interesting. You record footage separately and then it gets put together into something completely different. Music games. Guitar Hero.
John Schappert on stage now. Talking about Xbox Live. Showing new Xbox Experience (major dashboard update). Showing avatars. Lot more personality than Nintendo Miis. Avatar system being developed by Rare. Primetime will allow gamers to use their avatars in the 1v100 game show. I think I should sue them for stealing our podcast name. Sort of. Moving on to Games Channel. Playing Uno Rush with avatars. New Geometry Wars for XBLA. Galaga Legions for XBLA. Portal: Still Alive for XBLA. South Park game for XBLA. XNA Xbox Live Community Games to be lauched. Netflix announced as new partner. Live Party allows up to 8 gamers to share their experience together.
Don back on stage. Says people will send $48 billion on games this year. Larger install base than PS3. 5 new members every 5 seconds on Xbox Live. NBC/Universal television and Universal Movies joining Xbox Live Marketplace. Sucks for Apple.
Gears of War 2 Trailer. Wow. Sprinting with Body Cover. Cliff’s on stage - sans Lancer. Crazy gameplay footage. Looks almost like CG cutscenes. Curb stomp updated so that it pans around Marcus. Explosions updated with shaky camera. Fog effects nice. Heads-up GUI has not really changed at all. Plus side is that people will be familiar with it. Insane chaingun which puts Halo 3 chaingun to shame. Brumak??? November 7 release date.
Fable 2 Trailer. Release October 2008.
Resident Evil Co-op Demo by Jun Takeuchi. Gameplay graphics were great. Release March 2009.
Fallout 3 Demo by Todd Howard looked amazing. If I heard corrently, there was also an announcement about exclusive Xbox 360 DLC.

For every one that said microsoft was dead or dying need to get there head checked. Microsoft is a company that has too much money to just bow out and take a loss. I knew that they are a company that is here to stay and being that they are the underdog with more than 50% market share proves that they are a company to respect. todays conference has also put it into perspective for all those that doubt microsoft had any thing left. Its looking to be a great fall for microsoft. Playstation is great but its not catching up this year maybe next year. For playstation to take microsoft in console sales this year would take 1million console sales each month just to break even with microsoft, that would also mean that microsoft would have to not sell any consoles which is something thats not going to happen. Yes sony has out sold them for the last few months but with the lead that microsoft has and sony only out selling 360 by a couple hundred thousands if even that there is no way possible to catch up for this year. Will sony catch up later most likely but microsoft is still here and not giving up without a fight.
Just cause Microsoft is rich, doesn’t make them the better company. All of the games that Microsoft was bragging about are multiplatform. I still cant believe Squenix. It was more than a slap to sonys face, but to mine as well, I cant wait to see how many disc that game is gonna be coming in though. Sorta like 5 or 6 disc y ou think?
I am very fucking disappointed in Square Enix right now. Now final fantasy will have to suffer because the Xbox 360 don’t have Blu-Ray, and can’t handle some of the stuff I am sure they wanted to do. I have a 360 and enjoy it, but for this final fantasy, it doesn’t seem right putting it on the 360 when the game will suffer. I wonder how much fucking money MS gave Square Enix for this shit. WHAT THE FUCK SQUARE ENIX. WHAT THE FUCK?
Who really cares how many discs it is? I mean it is nice to not to have to swap discs, but it was done on PS1, PS2. And I really never minded having to swap discs in the past, it was like a new chapter in a book. Plus, either swap a disc and keep playing or wait 10 minutes while it installs a new portion of the game?
Plus is this really a surprise? The white engine by square was coded to the 360 months ago. And to your comment about Microsoft giving Square money to put the franchise on 360? THAT couldn’t be more hypocritical, SONY had been paying Square millions, id say almost 100 million over the course of the franchise to keep this series exclusive. SQUARE = A 3rd party company. It is not first party.
I’m not sure which console I will buy FF on, I may not even get it at all. But one thing is for sure, Sony’s dominance over the industry just took a big big hit. Looks like this is going to be a 3 player race for a long time to come.
I just realized something. Since the spring dashboard update will allow you to install the game to the hard disk then this really doesn’t matter further. I love this feature because apparently even though you still need to put the game in the drive to verify you own, the dvd drive will not spin at all after. So goodbye loud drive complaint’s and a longer lasting dvd drive in the future.
Man i really wish you ps3 fanboys would stop trying to blame lazy development on the fact that a game is on 360 as well as PS3. We all know that blueray holds alot of info but lets face it does it really matter when you have to install the game on the hdd any way because the blueray player doesnt read fast enough? Just like candid said that problem is something that is being adressed by microsoft. It really didnt matter what console ff came out on it is going to be a great game any way, square is not one of those lazy ass developers. stop trying to blame crappy ps3 ports on microsoft and blame the people who are responsible for it the developers. Its not microsofts problem that its easier to develop on their system, and that they have a larger install base so developers arent going to look over that just because the ps3 has more power. lets get one thing straight this is a buisness and people go where the money is.
Fanboys shouldn’t really take things like this seriously. I mean look, everyone gets to enjoy the game its not like Sony or Square backstabbed anybody. Today is just day one and Sony still has their press conference. As far as Im concerned, Im pretty sure Sony will have some surprises as well. Kudos to Microsoft for a great showing of their online and games.
Once upon a time the exact same circumstances happened to Nintendo. Except square decided to abandon Nintendo because of the Cartridge. The only advantage the PS3 holds over the 360 in this case is the Blu Ray disc capacity. And even then it is too slow to load from so data must be installed. If you grab the microsoft version you will have 2 choices. Swap discs as each chapter ends or just load the discs to the hard drive.
I like the blu ray technology, but I dont think switching a DVD is a big deal.
If I owned a PS3 and nothing else I would be happy that millions of people that may have not got to enjoy FF because they dont have a Playstation can. Isn’t this what it is all about? Today I have seen unbelievable reactions from fans. People saying that they want to die, people saying that they actually started to cry. Someone said they had to leave work early.
It is taking everything I have to no bust out of these people. I am considering doing a write up on this for humor purposes.
i think you have the right idea candid, but you know all the fanboys are now in an uproar, xbox and ps3 alike. It’s just frustrating to see so many stupid comments online now. I miss back when it was nintendo 64 and playstation, and my friend and i would make little comments about which we thought was better, but we always enjoyed playing both systems. Now everyone is so serious. They wish physical harm on people and say the most derogatory things over a machine. What’s next, am i gonna get jumped when i go to get bioshock for ps3?
