Warzone #3 - Gamestop Denies Torrence Davis From Pre-ordering MGS4 Bundle

by Torrence Davis

Warzone #3 was a riot!  I called in to Gamestop to pre-order a MGS4 bundle and got shut down.  Basically, if you haven’t pre-ordered MGS4, the only chance you have of getting the game is camping out at Best Buy for the game or the bundle.  It’s gonna be a hot week for Sony as their hardware sales will hit record numbers.  You can hear the phone call during the first few minutes of the podcast.  Other highlights for this show include:

  • Torrence Davis calls in to Gamestop to pre-order a MGS4 bundle.
  • Weapon X, an industry insider, joins The Bitbag crew.
  • Did Ninja Gaiden II fail to deliver?  We debate back and forth about it.
  • Qore is $29.99 a year and Xbox Insider is free.  Have the tides turned?
  • Hiphopgamer and Torrence Davis go at it hard debating which games shine better on PS3 vs. 360.
  • Hydrolex awarded Fanboy Of The Weekand we talk about why.
  • Plus some more random game talk.

  1. ;D haha hiphopgamer is funny, he is going on and on and on, and torrence keep serving him back with only one sentence each time.

Arguing with 360 fans over Halo, is just crazy. I think Halo 3 is waaay overrated. Many kids love it, all the colors and easy pick up gameplay

I also wanted to point out last weeks Warzone, u guys was going on about what do u think MGS 4 sales will be and what impact it will have on PS3

First of all every time a big xbox game comes out from Microsoft, they have a massive marketing, and hyping the games sky high. Even on energy drinks, everywhere weeks and weeks.

Metal Gear Solid is not for everyone though , the story is incredible deep and its a stealth spy game. Even though in my opinion MGS4 will be one of t the best games this year.

I want to suggest for torrence that he goes to gametrailers.com and watch the MGS retro perspective episode 1-4 it will give you the whole story and its really interesting. And just shows how increible the mgs saga really is and what kind of game we are about to experience in MGS4

Many thanks for great warzone show again, and looking forwrd to Hiphopgamer show and E3 !

  2. Nice Podcast. Weapon X is definantly a nice addition to the BitBag.

But, I have to side with HipHopGamer on his points about PS3 games v.s. Xbox 360 games. Basically it’s just that a lot of PS3 games in terms of sheer size, attention to detail and scale are a lot much more than what’s been done on the 360.

The fact that there’s games on the PS3 right now that already look better than Xbox 360 games (Uncharted, GT5 Prologue) and the PS3 isn’t even being used to it’s fullest potential, I can’t even imagine what the PS3 will bring to the table 1-2 years from now.

Even though Torrence stresses the fact that you can’t judge a game until you play it, I honestly feel that you can easily judge a game by just looking at a little bit of gameplay footage. It’s like, when you go to the movies and you see pre-view trailers for a upcoming movie title, you automatically know at the end of the preview if you want to see that upcoming movie or not just by looking at the trailer, and for me, it works the same way with Video Games. When it comes to video games I can be a very picky person, and I just know a good game when I see it.

And when it comes to Qore on the PS3, it’s not really a big deal that you have to pay for it and you get the same type of service on Xbox Live (Xbox Insider) for free because you don’t have to buy Qore Episodes if you don’t want to, but you HAVE to pay for Xbox Live if you want to play Online. And even if you want Qore, you don’t have to Subscribe for the whole year, you can pay for whatever episodes you want. I think that it’s good that Sony is offering Subscription based services because I can see that Sony is trying to make PS3 gaming more profitable.

And when it comes to that Xbox 360 game Too Human, I’ve seen the gameplay footage, and it looks O.k., but it just looks like a Devil May Cry RPG or something. Too Human was originally supposed to come out on the PS1 I think, and Silicon Knights definantly needs to deliver with Too Human because the game has been in development for like forever.

Itagaki’s departure from Temco really shocked the heck out of me and I wouldn’t be surprised if he started up his own game development production studio like Hideo Kojima. It’s obvious that Itagaki is a big 360 fan, but I think that he might be in denial that Ninja Gaiden Sigma turned out really good on the PS3 and that Ninja Gaiden 2 wasn’t really as much of a step up from Sigma. Ninja Gaiden 2 isn’t 720p Native resolution either, but Ninja Gaiden Sigma on the PS3 was 720p Native.

I think that a Ninja Gaiden 2 Sigma might be in the works because Temco doesn’t need Itagaki to make a hit Ninja Gaiden game. Itagaki had NO involvement what-so-ever with Sigma on the PS3 because he was working on Ninja Gaiden 2 at the time and he even said that he didn’t have any involvement with Sigma, but it turned out a hot game even without his so called “touch”. Itagaki even went so far as to say that Sigma was a “flawed” game… it’s obvious this guy is in denial because Sigma was anything but “flawed”. I guess he thinks that Sigma was “flawed” just because he didn’t work on it.

In conclusion, I love the HipHopGamer Show and the Warzone and I’m hooked on this site. Keep up the good work.

  3. YESSSSS ! I’m famous like George Bush. OMGGG people are coming knocking my door and they want to take picture of me.

Sh!t man, I have to think about buying an 8 door LAMBO.

someone please put me in IMDB.com

  4. Before all else, I would like to say that all I own is a PC, a PS2, a PS3, and a N64. I also play a lot of PS3 and 360 games from my friends.

Anyways, I have to agree with Torrence for the most part. There is nothing in the CURRENT market for the PS3 that looks as good as Ace Combat 6 as far as realism goes. You can’t compare Lair and Ace Combat 6 because they are completely different, but even then, I have to say that Ace Combat 6 looks better. As far as I am concerned, if they were able to bring such good graphics on a flight simulator game on the 360, then they can do that for a racing game on the 360.

Hell, if we are going to speculate, if Turn 10 spends as much time towards detail as much as Namco did for Ace Combat 6, then Forza Motorsport 3 would be better than Gran Turismo 5 in terms of game play, since I like Forza’s mechanics over GT’s, and identical in graphics. Of course, GT5 had not released yet so I can’t even compare about game play and graphics. This is why speculation is pointless and judgment should be made only when the game comes out.

I also, like Torrence, do not care much about footages and screen shots. Some of the best games that I had ever played, such as the Armored Core series, did not fair well in terms of footages and screen shots but were epic games in my opinion. Yet some games that had epic footages and screen shots turned out to be big disappointments for me.

While I believe that the PS3 has a better potential, it takes a lot of funding to produce games to use the full potential. Even then, with our current US economy, not many people are willing to buy those games for $60 and a lot of developers would end up bankrupt if they do. This is why only a few third party developers are willing to make games just for the PS3. Haze for example, from what I had played, could have been ported to the 360 in full capacity without any problems. When it all boils down to it, it is really all up to the developers.

If the developer is making a PS3 exclusive game but does not spend enough time and funding on the game, it might as well been ported to the 360 as well. Besides, I doubt many third party developers could make a game that looks as good as Ace Combat 6 or Gears of War for the PS3 simply because it is a lot easier to program for the 360, which is a very good quality. This means that they can put their ideas into the game with less time and effort. This is maybe why some developers say that the 360 is more powerful, because it is much easier to grasp.

By the way, keep in mind that most people, such as potential viewers and I, are not rich so we can’t simply buy all the epic games that had been and are going to be released or buy all next generation consoles. The only games that I own for the PS3 are COD4 and GTA4. The only games that I am planning to buy are MGS4 (which is why I purchased the PS3 in the first place), Fallout 3, and StarCraft II. I only buy two to four games a year. Otherwise, I would not enjoy each game to the fullest. Not that I can afford to buy any more anyways. I guess this is another reason why I like the PS3 more than the 360 as well. I am glad that I do not have to pay more multiplayer and I could care less about Qore. Besides, PSN is not bad at all. I guess I have low standards.

That was a good Warzone guys. I will see you next week.

  5. Hydrolex, Go suck a big dick.

  6. 1st off great show once again. Got to sort out that echo feedback at the end of the show coming from hiphopgamer.

I think its pointless comparing games from different genres cuz
each game genre does things differently. Its only fair to compare games that are out now or in the very near future (within a month from release). Now with that said the best looking game on 360 is obviously gears of war. Thats already been at least matched with UT3. yes its primarly a FPS but you can get the action cam mod. Gears is also bettered graphically by uncharted no question.

Also MGS4 is just about to release & is about to smash every game ever released as a whole package(when you include MGO). Also it has received the following praise from IGN “Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots is the single most visually impressive game of this or any previous generation. It sets new standards in animation, acting and digital performance that really draws a defining line in the sand for all future games with cinematic ambitions. The bar has been raised.” Link http://uk.ps3.ign.com/articles/879/879429p1.html

Although this is slightly speculation, the 360 has seemly reached its peak with the gears of war. I mean EVERY 1 holds the 1st gears game as the best looking game for 360 & that was released 2 years ago…wheres the progress. Yes gears 2 is gonna improve but it aint gonna be radically different.

I dont wanna post too long so as far as games ima leave it at that(although theres a ton of stuff i have’nt got into).

Qore is optional for dedicated gamers (read us) and is cheaper than a mag Im from the UK so i cant even get that service even if i wanted it, so be just be thankful. At least PSN doesn’t charge for gaming online with others. Gaming online with your friends is the big thing this gen so charging for something like that when your direct competitor doesnt is stupid.

  7. By the way Uncharted can’t be done on the 360 because it use 25 gigs of space and the 360 can only use 8 gigs for games.

  8. Sorry HipHopGamer, but some of that just came out like mad ranting… Vers came across as a lot more sane. re: Gears of War, i would say that Unreal Tournament 3 (PS3) does everything graphics/audio wise Gears does, and surpass it too - bar the cover system. I do struggle to think of games that can or cant be done on one system or another. Maybe MGS4 will be it? Could it be done on the 360; the amount of disc swapping, coded to only use the memory card (lowest common-denominator 360 SKU) and so on?

Ignoring full release disc games, maybe next Warzone you could do PSN games vs Live Arcade games? Who’s using it best, quality vs quantity, price and so on?

  9. LMAO!! That was one of the funniest calls I’ve heard in a long time. You go cuz. Your change of voice had me on the floor. Sounded like a serious hardcore gaming geek who can’t living a day without have the next big title in their library. The show was the bomb though. Good job fellas.
