Consoles Playing Follow the Leader

This is sure to bring some flames, but two articles released today provide a glimpse at competitive decisions that are being made by each console and their respective developers (check after the break for my thoughts):

Fallout 3 Collector’s Edition to Come in Lunch Box

Yup. It’s coming in a lunch box . . . not a duffel bag, because the lunch box is the classic paraphernalia of a soldier in the Fallout 3 realm, just as the duffel bag is necessary gear for the criminal in GTA. Kidding aside, there will be a bobblehead included. Really. Kidding aside. There will also be the usual art book and special features DVD. Enjoy the screenshots.

Midway TNA Wrestling Media Released This Week

Will Midway dethrone THQ in the wrestling genre? Based on the popularity of the motion capture videos that Midway has been showcasing, everybody’s looking forward to checking this game out. TNA is the underdog of prime-time wrestling, yet it has a hardcore following, so it remains to be seen whether this game will take off. Check out the screenshots, the trailer, and the “Making of Ultimate X” videos below. A confirmed list of personalities is also available after the break.

Review: Samurai Warriors 2: Xtreme Legends

Since the beginning of the PS2, there have been hack n’ slash games that fail to deliver the gaming value we deserved. Then, there was Dynasty Warriors, and after a few sequels and spin-offs, came Samurai Warriors. I remember playing the second Dynasty Warriors, Dynasty Warriors: Orochi (beta-tested though), and now Samurai Warriors 2: Xtreme Legends. There’s not much to say about this game, mainly because it’s the same damn thing as the rest. At first, I was going to rip on this game, but now that I have had more time to play I must change my opinion. Read the rest of this entry »

Voltron Comes To Xbox Live Video Marketplace

I was snooping around Xbox Live as I usually do when I get time, and low and behold I scroll to a Voltron ad on the Inside Xbox panel. Not only is Voltron on Xbox Live Marketplace, but the first episode is FREE! Yeah FREE! That means you get to keep it and introduce your kids and all their friends to a piece of anime history.

UT3 for 360

As if the last post wasn’t enough, Midway dropped another goodie on us . . . Unreal Tournament 3 for the 360. Whoo hoo! Maybe now Master Chief can make an official appearance in the game. Of course, it’s wishful thinking . . . but then again, DOA2 did it. Why couldn’t Epic? They are not in direct competition, are they? UPDATE: The 360 version will include a Gears of War “nugget.”

Batman VS Sub Zero???

There hasn’t been earth-shattering news on a level like this since the fighters of Capcom took on the Marvel universe. This is not a late April Fool’s Joke. I actually tried to get into the Midway Vegas show this week, but I wasn’t cool enough. We thought the Mortal Kombat franchise had delivered its last Fatality, but it looks like Liu Kang’s Bicycle Kick will meet with the brawny jaw of the Man of Steel? The early gameplay footage looks like it could use some work, but I’m extremely curious to see how this game will go down. Will it be all hype? Check out the official website (www.worldscollide.com) to download the Sub Zero versus Batman wallpaper, sign up for updates, and discuss this upcoming game.

Fallout 3 Gets Collectors Edition

Collector’s edition versions of games are becoming such the norm that we might as well consider them regular editions. After the success of so many collector’s editions, I see more and more companies doing the same. Here’s the full release info from Bethesda: Read the rest of this entry »

Afro Samurai Cutting Its Way to Next Gen Consoles

Everyone was surprised to see this trailer premiere at VGAs this year and how appropriate that Samuel Jackson was the host of the show again. The game includes a rhythm system in which enemy AI is affected by the background music (done by RZA of Wu-Tang). Check these three screenshots out and then check the rest out after the break.
