The War Against Fanboyism
1. Fanboyism –adjective
The collective outlook and behavior of a group of people concerning a subject (movies, games, hardware, comic book characters, etc.) which when challenged results in an antagonistic, passionate, and unreasoned response.
Rampant Fanboyism can be found on most internet message boards when such hot button subjects are discussed. You know a fanboy when you see one.
Example:
Fanboy 1: “The Playstation 3 is better because…”
Fanboy 2: “My iPod is better than your Zune, how can you carry around a brown MP3 player…”
Fanboy 3: It’s unrealistic because…..___(fill in the blank about how this movie about flying superheroes is unrealistic.___”
PSN Gets A New Attitude

Finally PSN gets a long awaited redesign. I really don’t care how it looks, I’m just hoping it’s faster. There’s nothing like clicking a link and nothing happening for a few seconds. Here’s the full release from Sony: Read the rest of this entry »
Halo 3 on PS3?
No. This is not some April Fool’s Joke a day early. Apparently, some folks have added a Master Chief model into the PS3 version of Unreal Tournament 3. The question is, “Is Microsoft okay with this?” Apparently . . . yes. In a podcast interview with Major Nelson that was published yesterday, Don McGowan, lawyer for Microsoft Game Studios, responded that Microsoft did not have a problem with this. They were discussing the Game Content Usage Rules which not only covers machinima, but this UT3 case as well. Read McGowan’s comments at his blog which actually made headlines this week because of a controversial comment he made about PlayStation games. He wrote it in jest, but a few fanboys took it the wrong way. Read the rest of this entry »
Ubisoft Announces Open World Rescue Driving Game
There has been talk in the industry in the last few weeks about eliminating genres (e.g. FPS, RTS) and referring to games as action or drama titles (aren’t those genres?). This game from Ubisoft may not eliminate genres, but it will surely be difficult to categorize. It looks like Crackdown meets Burnout Paradise. Crackdown because it is an anti-GTA (i.e. you are the good guys) sandbox type and Burnout Paradise because you drive around looking for opportunities to rescue.
Mr. Driller Comes To Xbox Live Arcade This Wednesday
I never actually played this game in the arcades but I’ve watched it. It’s addictive on the Puzzle Fighter level but not as competitive. Here’s the full release from Microsoft. Read the rest of this entry »
PSN Store Redesign: Giggity Giggity.

While speaking with my contact at Sony via e-mail, I managed to get him to spill a little news about the PSN store re-structuring. Hold on, because this gets weird really fast.
First: The store design will include a more intuitive category system. You’ll also be able to sort the items on each page by name, most downloads, date added, and category.
Secondly: There will be more types of download-able content to be added to the PSN store. Starting from the redesigns launch you’ll be able to download full length movies!
Now, here’s the strange part: There will be a ‘Mature’ section. That’s right. Adult movies as well as Mature rated games and other content will be accessible from this section. It’s the only part of the store that isn’t readily available, however. When you attempt to access this portion of the store, you’re taken to a sign up page. On this page you are to submit various information to Sony to help verify your age. In the span of 3 to 4 days, you’ll receive a PM from Sony. You’ll know it’s official (and not some hacker) because you won’t be able to reply to the sender and the user-name will be the Playstation 1 logo. If you information was legit, it’ll contain an attachment. The attachment will be an update for your system that will unlock access to the adult section of the Playstation store. From there you’ll be able to purchase all the different kinds of adult friendly content. As cool as that seems, it’s a little too thorough for my tastes.
Hiphopgamer Responds To Candid Anthony With A Freestyle…”Achievement Unlocked”

This guy has mad lyrics. We talked about him on the podcast last week and Candid Anthony made fun of him and his background. It was all fun and games, nothing serious. Hiphopgamer hit Candid Anthony back hard with a freestyle. I call it, “Achievement Unlocked”. Check it out after the jump. Read the rest of this entry »
Review: Sega Bass Fishing
SEGA Bass Fishing has been revived again, this time for the Wii. I know there was an arcade version, but I was never lucky enough to play that (I did play Big Buck Hunter in the arcade, but that’s a different story). I did play the Dreamcast version for many a steamy hot night some summer several years ago, and that was a great game. For someone who isn’t into fishing, I found that game very addictive. So, when I learned there was a Wii version being released, it had a lot to live up to, especially with the potential the Wiimote and Nunchuk bring. Read the rest of this entry »
Review: Mystery Dungeon, Shiren The Wanderer

We should all be used to grinding in dungeon crawlers, right? We get a bit frustrated at times, especially when we die and lose ALL of our items, money, and start back to level 1, right? RIGHT?! That’s just one out of many reasons why this game has a near endless list of faults. It is sad because this game had so much potential to become, at best, a decent dungeon crawler. It’s another year and time for another Ratchet and Clank game. This time Ratchet makes his way on to the PS3 and the graphics, sounds and special effects have been bumped up quite a bit. It all starts off with Ratchet working on his hover bike, but a message from Captain Quark chimes in informing Ratchet that the planet is under attack by an armada of aliens and robots. Before you know it, you are bashing robots over the head with your wrench and taking out bugs with one of the many incredible weapons in your inventory. The main villain behind these attacks is Emperor Percival Tachyon and Ratchet must stop him.
