Yes, I’m here to admit it. I’m a COD4 freak! I can’t get enough of the game. I’m a rank 40 Colonel as of today and I finally got my P90. If I can only get that .50 sniper rifle I would be all set. I’m probably not too different from the many 360, PS3 and PC gamers who log on every night to drop themselves in the middle of a war. I can honestly say that I put Halo 3 down for a leave of absence because of COD4. To me, the game redefined the FPS genre in many ways and I continue to marvel at it’s excellence almost 2 months after purchasing it.

I’m the Editor In Chief of this tiny digital fishwrap. I forsee everything that goes on here. I make sure review materials are coming in and editorial is going out. I’m the main contact for the site. That being said, because of the holidays and this little beautiful gem of a game, my duties have slipped somewhat. I haven’t been drawn to a game this much since World Of Warcraft was first released. I play it before I go to bed, after I wake up, before I eat, before I leave the house and in my sleep. I can’t even pull myself away from the game when I want to. I’ll play several games and tell myself to put the controller down. If I only need 500xp or so to level, I will play a few more games to level and then I’m ready to turn it off. But what about that new weapon I just unlocked? Two more games of testing my new weapon setup and I’m finally shutting it off.

If you were to come to my house specifically to steal my copy of Call Of Duty 4, you can find it in my 360. When I have to review a game, I temporarily remove the COD4 disc and replace it after getting some review gametime in. In fact, this has all lead me to another addiction of the Xbox Live Arcade wonder, Carcassonne. I can play it and not have to worry about swapping discs.

I’m all about immersion these days and COD4 puts me right into the game. If I’m getting sniped from a building, I’ll do a special mission and sneak around back so I can quietly knife the sniper from behind. Even in other games they’ve tried to put things like camoflage to use but have failed miserably. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve been lying in grass only to have several enemies just run past the front of me so I could gun them down.

Imagine how I felt when Xbox Live was acting up? I was tempted to purchase the PS3 version so I could play online while Live was having it’s moment. What have you done to me Infinity Ward? You gave me the most realistic war experience in the history of gaming. You have revolutionized graphics, sound and multiplayer gameplay and succeeded at doing it across 3 platforms. You have convinced me that I no longer need a PC for FPS gaming. You have changed the world and brought us into the next generation.

If this is just a taste of what’s ahead in 2008, I’m not ready for it. Until then, COD4 will continue to be a daily staple for me. I’m not afraid to admit that I’m addicted to it, but I’m sure there are millions of others like me who can’t pry themselves from this game for a minute. This is why I’m a staunch believer in multiplaform titles. Think of how many people across 3 platforms are enjoying this game and imagine what it would be like if a gamer didn’t have the opportunity to play it.
