Impressions: Stranglehold

hbucover.jpg

This game means a lot to me.  My first cinematic John Woo experience was when I saw Hard Boiled here in San Diego over 10 years ago.  It was mind blowing.  His use of two guns…priceless.  The body count in the film,  record breaking.   I was seeing a new genre of cinematic action right before my eyes.  John Woo was my new hero.   I’ve supported him from his move from Hong Kong to Hollywood and now to next generation gaming consoles.  Not only will Stranglehold prove that good directors can make good games, it also marks a long awaited comeback for Midway. Halo Spartan 360 Edition Is The New 65nm Chipset

Yep it’s true! Put 2 and 2 together. The 65nm chips are already in production and are due out this fall. Halo 3 launches this fall and to celebrate the launch, they created the Halo 360 box as a promotion. The box comes with a standard 20gb drive, some Halo goodies, a play and charge kit and an HDMI port. It costs $399 to cover the themes and other goodies. It gets released…this fall. What people don’t realize is this box represents the new Xbox 360. They didn’t just change the color of the Elite and dump a 20gb drive on it. That wouldn’t make sense. They also added the new chipset. What I’m interested in seeing is how they are going to market this new chipset in the non-spartan versions of the box. Are they just going to sneak it in and put “NOW WITH HDMI” stickers on the existing boxes? The average Johnny consumer doesn’t know or care about what nm means. Is it even necessary to publicize the change? One month from now we will see.

Madden 08 360/PS3 Comparison Video

PS3 owners need not worry. As you can see in this comparison video from Gamevideos.com, both games look exactly the same. Even though the 360 has a 30fps advantage over the PS3, you can hardly tell the difference. The 360 version does look a little sharper, but the only time you can truly notice an FPS difference is when it’s slowed down to 25% speed. The 360 keeps running smooth and the PS3 can be seen as being very choppy. At high speeds however, I wouldn’t worry. See for yourself.

Japanese Version Of Eternal Sonata On Xbox Live Marketplace!?

So you may already know that the Japanese RPG, Eternal Sonata is available on Xbox Live Marketplace today. What you may notice when you got to download it is that there are two versions listed. One is the US demo and the other is written in Japanese but it’s the same demo. Looks like someone goofed and put up two links for the same demo.

930023_20070803_screen043.jpg

If anyone knows me, you know that I’m a hardcore Wipeout fan.  I’ve owned every Wipeout game ever made, including the Sega Saturn version which held up pretty good to it’s PS1 cousin.  The one thing I didn’t want to do when first playing FI was compare it to WO.  I wanted to go in with an open mind and take it for what it was.  The very first time I played I thought the game sucked.  The controls were hard to manage, I was running into shit left and right, came in dead last and was like WTF?!  My problem, I was playing it like a Wipeout game.   So I played again…and again…and again!  I wanted to win and as I played more and more I got used to the controls and finally discovered where this game differs from WO.  Read the rest of this entry »
